Book Performance Evaluation for Network Services Systems and Protocols

Download or read book Performance Evaluation for Network Services Systems and Protocols written by Stênio Fernandes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-21 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive view of the methods and approaches for performance evaluation of computer networks. It offers a clear and logical introduction to the topic, covering both fundamental concepts and practical aspects. It enables the reader to answer a series of questions regarding performance evaluation in modern computer networking scenarios, such as ‘What, where, and when to measure?’, ‘Which time scale is more appropriate for a particular measurement and analysis?’, 'Experimentation, simulation or emulation? Why?’, and ‘How do I best design a sound performance evaluation plan?’. The book includes concrete examples and applications in the important aspects of experimentation, simulation and emulation, and analytical modeling, with strong support from the scientific literature. It enables the identification of common shortcomings and highlights where students, researchers, and engineers should focus to conduct sound performance evaluation. This book is a useful guide to advanced undergraduates and graduate students, network engineers, and researchers who plan and design proper performance evaluation of computer networks and services. Previous knowledge of computer networks concepts, mechanisms, and protocols is assumed. Although the book provides a quick review on applied statistics in computer networking, familiarity with basic statistics is an asset. It is suitable for advanced courses on computer networking as well as for more specific courses as a secondary textbook.

Book Assessing Internet Development in Germany

Download or read book Assessing Internet Development in Germany written by UNESCO and published by UNESCO Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-11 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Note: This is an assessment of 109 core indicators and 21 contextual indicators instead of the full set of 303 indicators, and it is therefore not intended to cover all dimensions of the digital ecosystem in the country, but serves to take stock of significant progress and signal those gaps in a need to be improved in adhering to ROAM framework. As the Internet environment is changing very fast, so are the data collected and analysis and recommendations made upon. UNESCO encourages countries to continue the dialogues about the findings, and to update the assessment after due time while also keeping track of the latest developments to monitor and adapt and sometimes strengthen the recommendations to further enhance their impact, as appropriate.

Book Final Evaluation of the Impact of the Enterprise Europe Network 2008 2014

Download or read book Final Evaluation of the Impact of the Enterprise Europe Network 2008 2014 written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Enterprise Europe Network (2008-2014) provides support for SMEs in the EU Member States and in countries participating in the EU's Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP). Its specific services are described on p. 6. The Network was established via a call for proposals (2006) and started operating in 2008. It brought together organisations that had been members of two pre-existing networks, the Euro Info Centres and Innovation Relay Centres, and also a number of organisations that had not previously been involved in business support at a European level. The European Commission's Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) is responsible for the Network and has commissioned this evaluation. The Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) implements the Network for the European Commission. The Network is present in over 50 countries. Network partners in the EU Member States, and in the countries participating in the EU's Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP) are co-funded by the EU. The remaining funding for these partner organisations is provided by their co-financing bodies at local, regional or national level. A number of "third" countries such as China, India, Russia, Brazil the USA, Japan and Chile participate in the Network on a self-financing basis. In these cases the Network partners are called "Business Cooperation Centres."

Book Evaluating and Measuring the Value Use and Impact of Digital Collections

Download or read book Evaluating and Measuring the Value Use and Impact of Digital Collections written by Lorna M. Hughes and published by Facet Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A huge investment has been made in digitizing scholarly and cultural heritage materials through initiatives based in museums, libraries and archives, as well as higher education institutions. The 'Digital Economy' is an important component of institutional planning, and much attention is given to the investment in digital projects and programmes. However, few initiatives have examined the actual use, value and impact of digital collections, and the role of digital collections in the changing information environment. As the creative, cultural and educational sector faces a period of restricted funding, it is timely to re-examine the use of the digital collections that have been created in the past twenty years, and to consider their value to the institutions that host them and to the communities of users they serve. This book brings together a group of international experts to consider the following key issues: What is the role of digital resources in the research life cycle? Do the arts and humanities face a 'data deluge'? How are digital collections to be sustained over the long term? How is use and impact to be assessed? What is the role of digital collections in the 'digital economy'? How is public engagement with digital cultural heritage materials to be assessed and supported? This book will be of interest to academics, librarians, archivists and the staff of cultural heritage organizations, as well as funders and other key stakeholders with an interest in the development and long term sustainability of digital collections."--Publisher's website.

Book excerpt: Drug Safety Evluation Comprehensive and practical guide presenting a roadmap for safety assessment as an integral part of the development of drugs and therapeutics This fourth edition of Drug Safety Evaluation maintains the central objective of presenting an all-inclusive practical guide for those who are responsible for ensuring the safety of drugs and biologics to patients, healthcare providers, those involved in the manufacture of medicinal products, and all those who need to understand how the safety of these products is evaluated and shepherding valuable candidates to market. Individual chapters address specific approaches to evaluation hazards, including problems that are encountered and their solutions. Also covered are the scientific and philosophical bases for evaluation of specific concerns (e.g., carcinogenicity, development toxicity, etc.) to provide both understanding and guidance for approaching the new problems that have come to face both our society and the new challenges they brought. The many changes in regulatory requirements, pharmaceutical development, technology, and the effects of Covid on our society and science have required both extensive revision to every chapter and the addition of four new chapters. Specific sample topics covered in Drug Safety Evaluation include: The drug development process and the global pharmaceutical marketplace and regulation of human pharmaceutical safety Sources of information for consideration in study and program design and in safety evaluation Electronic records, reporting and submission, screens in safety and hazard assessment, and formulations, routes, and dosage regimens Mechanisms and endpoints of drug toxicity, pilot toxicity testing in drug safety evaluation, and repeat dose toxicity Genotoxicity, QSAR tools for drug safety, toxicogenomics, nonrodent animal studies, and developmental and reproductive toxicity testing An appendix which provides an up to date guide to CROs for conducting studies Drug Safety Evaluation was written specifically for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, including scientists, consultants, and academics, to show a utilitarian yet scientifically valid path to the everyday challenges of safety evaluation and the problem solving that is required in drug discovery and development.
