  • Author : Alfonso J Fernandez

  • Release : 2005

  • Pages : 198 pages

Book excerpt: The Ancient Greek philosophers acknowledged the existence of a superior logic evident everywhere in nature that could only come from the mind of a creator. They called the Creator's Mind Logos, and we can know and understand the Logos through its attributes reflected in creation. The writers of the New Testament also had understanding of the term logos. They used it to describe Jesus. The Creator's Mind is the source of all truth, valid reasoning, and law; therefore, God's Mind can also be revealed through the understanding of his truth and laws. The faculty of reasoning allows us to determine what God's truth might be. However, we often reject the use of reason in exchange for our own convenient and/or irrational truths. This rejection separates us from God and such behavior represents the equivalent of the Original Sin. This book describes the consequences that the rejection of God's truth has in the different areas and aspects of the human experience, since this truth goes beyond the limits of religion or a religious experience. The Logos: the truth . according to God's Mind! demystifies the Mind of God through the understanding of his truth, revealing a totally rational God in his role as the only real absolute truth in the universe. This idea is not widely understood or commonly discussed.

Book Vittorio De Sica

Download or read book Vittorio De Sica written by Stephen Snyder and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recognized as a master of Italian cinema, Vittorio De Sica is perhaps best known and most respected for his critically acclaimed neorealist films of the period 1946-55. As this anthology reveals, however, his production was remarkably multifaceted. The essays included here - some newly commissioned, some reprinted, and others in translation - look at De Sica's varied career from many perspecives. Structured chronologically, the volume begins by introducing readers to De Sica's early popularity as an actor and singer during the years of Italian Fascism, and to his initial directorial efforts before the end of World War II. It was not until the postwar era, however, that De Sica made his mark in film history. Special attention is given to this critical phase of his career, which encompasses the neorealist films that made him famous: "Shoeshine", "Bicycle Thieves", "Miracle in Milan", and "Umberto D." When the neorealist movement waned after 1955, De Sica returned to his roots in Neapolitan comedy for a series of commercially successful films starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. Memorable works from this period include "Two Women" and "Marriage Italian Style" as well as "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow", which won De Sica an Academy Award in 1965. In one of his final films, "The Garden of the Finzi Continis", he returned to the subject of World War II and to the human tragedy characteristic of his best neorealist productions. This fine anthology offers a comprehensive critical survey that covers the entire scope of De Sica's career, and is an excellent resource for students, critics and film enthusiasts.

Book No Reflection

  • Author : Christopher Johnson
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation

Download or read book No Reflection written by Christopher Johnson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God is capable of creating such perfection and splendor and must have a great plan and a purpose for us. Well, he does; he wants to reveal that purpose to us and to show us the way out of the pain, the sorrow we have brought on ourselves (self-inflected wounds) from rejecting his ways. Perception is what determines how we believe; if our perception is wrong, we believe in error because perception is not always reality. Love is the cause that effectively affects people, but sometimes, we go in circles because we cant see the path. And sometimes, its just because we believe we are smarter than the average bear, and we tell ourselves it is what it is, but this stems from self-inflected wounds that are often initiated by dictated living, things you didnt see because you were too busy looking. In some cases, vanity might be the reason greed did not reveal the deception that was at work because we might have been in a state of Hurry up and wait. Selfishness is the syndrome that misleads or deceives most often. If we learn to trust in Gods plan, we learn to live a life of integrity and develop a giving spirit; we learn to forgive as we learn to be servants. In the end, we learn that love is lifes only true satisfaction.

Download or read book Marx and We written by Sun Zhengyu and published by American Academic Press. This book was released on 2024-08-01 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marxist ideology is the only fully scientific ideology, the only one able to guide mankind toward the settlement of fundamental social problems and to point out the royal road for the proletariat to take in its march toward socialism and communism. Without Marxism, modern people cannot establish true social ideals, nor can they engage in the rational pursuit of values. Without Marxism, modern people cannot choose the correct path of development, nor can they build up new forms of civilizations. Without Marxism, modern people would never base their commitments to schedule the consensus-building effort and support the consensus-building process on any irrefutably and sufficiently sound theoretical foundations.

Each era is examined in the context of several exemplary films commonly viewed in film studies courses. Thus students can watch Birth of a Nation and Intolerance while studying the innovations made by D.W. Griffith from 1910 to 1919. The scope is global, embracing the cinematic traditions of Asia, Latin America and Africa, as well as the ever important American and European output. Thoughtful articles from film scholars are included. The flexible structure of the text allows a variety of options for classroom use or personal study. Book Nabokov and the Real World

Download or read book Nabokov and the Real World written by Robert Alter and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From award-winning literary scholar Robert Alter, a masterful exploration of how Nabokov used artifice to evoke the dilemmas, pain, and exaltation of the human condition Admirers and detractors of Vladimir Nabokov have viewed him as an ingenious contriver of literary games, teasing and even outsmarting his readers through his self-reflexive artifice and the many codes and puzzles he devises in his fiction. Nabokov himself spoke a number of times about reality as a term that always has to be put in scare quotes. Consequently, many critics and readers have thought of him as a writer uninterested in the world outside literature. Robert Alter shows how Nabokov was passionately concerned with the real world and its complexities, from love and loss to exile, freedom, and the impact of contemporary politics on our lives. In these illuminating and exquisitely written essays, Alter spans the breadth of Nabokov's writings, from his memoir, lectures, and short stories to major novels such as Lolita. He demonstrates how the self-reflexivity of Nabokov's fiction becomes a vehicle for expressing very real concerns. What emerges is a portrait of a brilliant stylist who is at once serious and playful, who cared deeply about human relationships and the burden of loss, and who was acutely sensitive to the ways political ideologies can distort human values. Offering timeless insights into literature’s most fabulous artificer, Nabokov and the Real World makes an elegant and compelling case for Nabokov's relevance today.
