Book Sensors for Environment Health and Security

Download or read book Sensors for Environment Health and Security written by M.-I. Baraton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-25 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO Advanced Study Institute on “Sensors for Environment, Health and Security: Advanced Materials and Technology” was held in Vichy (France) on September 16–27, 2007 where more than 65 participants, ranging from Ph. D. students to experienced senior scientists, met and exchanged ideas and know-how in a friendly atmosphere. The present book intends to cover the main topics of this NATO ASI through 32 chapters distributed over two parts (Part I: “Materials and Technologies” and Part II: “Applications to Environment, Health and Security”). The scientific programme of the NATO ASI consisted in 28 1-hour lectures given by 14 invited lecturers, 5 additional 1-hour lectures given by seminar speakers, 22 oral presentations by selected ASI participants and a poster session. The programme was divided into four sessions: (1) Advanced materials and technologies; (2) Sensors for environment; (3) Sensors for health; (4) Sensors for security. During the “Advanced Materials and Technologies” session (Part I of the present book), the lectures were dedicated to critical analyses of current methods for the synthesis of materials, nanomaterials (nanoparticles, nanowires, nanotubes, ...) and nanocomposites to be used for the fabrication of sensing devices, mainly semiconductor sensors. Among the synthesis methods, chemical (sol-gel, etc. ) and physical methods (laser deposition, DC magnetron sputtering, etc. ) were discussed. Several lectures addressed characterization techniques and it was concluded that the physical and chemical control of the materials/nanomaterials, including surface chemistry, remains a key issue for the reproducibility of the final device.

Book CMOS MEMS

Download or read book CMOS MEMS written by Henry Baltes and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-26 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of 'CMOS-MEMS' was originally published in the successful series 'Advanced Micro & Nanosystems'. Here, the combination of the globally established, billion dollar chip mass fabrication technology CMOS with the fascinating and commercially promising new world of MEMS is covered from all angles. The book introduces readers to this fi eld and takes them from fabrication technologies and material charaterization aspects to the actual applications of CMOS-MEMS - a wide range of miniaturized physical, chemical and biological sensors and RF systems. Vital knowledge on circuit and system integration issues concludes this in-depth treatise, illustrating the advantages of combining CMOS and MEMS in the first place, rather than having a hybrid solution.

The last part of the book is devoted to the cutting-edge applications of resonant MEMS such as inertial, chemical and biosensors, fluid properties sensors, timing devices and energy harvesting systems.

Book Solid State Gas Sensors Industrial Application

Download or read book Solid State Gas Sensors Industrial Application written by Maximilian Fleischer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-05 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas sensor products are very often the key to innovations in the fields of comfort, security, health, environment, and energy savings. This compendium focuses on what the research community labels as solid state gas sensors, where a gas directly changes the electrical properties of a solid, serving as the primary signal for the transducer. It starts with a visionary approach to how life in future buildings can benefit from the power of gas sensors. The requirements for various applications, such as for example the automotive industry, are then discussed in several chapters. Further contributions highlight current trends in new sensing principles, such as the use of nanomaterials and how to use new sensing principles for innovative applications in e.g. meteorology. So as to bring together the views of all the different groups needed to produce new gas sensing applications, renowned industrial and academic representatives report on their experiences and expectations in research, applications and industrialisation.
