Download or read book English Language Teaching in the European Credit Transfer System written by María Luisa Pérez Cañado and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice by identifying the main challenges which the implementation of the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) is posing in language teaching. It reports on the outcomes yielded by prominent European research projects and thematic networks and presents the insights of a prestigious set of scholars, practitioners, and policy-makers from different parts of Europe. The book is divided into four main parts. The first section examines the coordination of language studies in the European Higher Education Area, from general language policy development, to the practicalities of coordinating whole degrees or drawing up ECTS study guides. The second part analyses the concept of competencies within the Bologna process. Methodological aspects are broached in the third thematic block by sharing practical accounts and experiences across Europe. The final part seeks to clarify the most important aspects with regard to evaluating language learning in the new credit system, and examines learning outcomes, student work hours, or ECTS credits.

This book was released on 2007-04-30 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bologna Process is a non-binding inter-governmental initiative to develop a European Higher Education Area (EHEA), by 2010, which would enable higher education qualifications to be comparable, whilst maintaining national autonomy and flexibility. This inquiry has been undertaken to make a contribution to the London Ministerial Summit on 17-18 May 2007. There are five main conclusions: 1) there is overwhelming support for the UK to play a leading role; 2) there is a desire to maintain the distinction between the voluntary, bottom-up process, which is focussed on academic cooperation, and the European Community; 3) there are anxieties about a rigid commitment to a three cycle (bachelors, masters, doctoral) course structure, especially in relation to self-standing integrated Masters courses; 4) there are doubts that the full that the full significance of the coming into existence of the EHEA has been fully recognised; 5) the government has not been sufficiently pro-active in disseminating information and identifying and possibly resolving potential difficulties.

Download or read book Globalizing Higher Education and Strengthening the European Spirit written by Christiane Dienel and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-08-30 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The so-called Bologna process is one of the most disputed and influential long-term policy changes the European Union has ever succeeded to start. It has harmonized European higher education systems and, at the same time, deeply changed concepts about what the core of Europeanness is. This book discusses various aspects of this transformative and influential “soft policy” process. The Bologna process, initiated over 20 years ago, confronts us with fundamental questions about the European integration process that is facing the greatest challenge in its history to date. The goal was to increase the comparability and competitiveness of European higher education structures, their quality and outcomes. But how successful was this endeavour? This book discusses different aspects of this reform, national interests, globalization trends, competition and cooperation within higher education and the influences of harmonization on the Europeanness of the young generation. Globalizing Higher Education and Strengthening the European Spirit will be a key resource for academics, researchers, and advanced students of Education, Education Policy, Social Sciences, and European Studies. The chapters included in this book were originally published in Innovation: The European Journal of Social Science Research.
Download or read book Promoting Global Competence and Social Justice in Teacher Education written by David Schwarzer and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2015-03-06 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Promoting Global Competence and Social Justice in Teacher Education reconceptualizes the purpose of education to include the attainment of global or cosmopolitan perspectives. This goal has important implications for how we not only educate today’s students, but also how we prepare teachers to teach in a diverse and complex world in which habits of perspective, inquiry, imagination, empathy, communication, commitment, humility, integrity, and judgment increasingly resonate in importance. This book advocates for preparing teacher candidates to acquire a nuanced, global perspective of their subject areas and be prepared to handle the demands of educating students for our changing global context. To this end, Promoting Global Competence and Social Justice in Teacher Education encourages the development of pedagogical strategies that will enable students to consider multiple perspectives and cultivate respect for diverse peoples and cultures.

Download or read book An Opportunity for a Different Peru written by Marcelo Giugale and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time in the republican history of Peru, the presidential transition takes place in democracy, social peace, fast economic growth and favorable world markets. In other words, there has never been a better chance to build a different Peru - a richer country, more equal and governable. There are multiple ways to achieve that goal. New reforms must stem from a widespread and participatory debate, one of a common vision conceived for and by Peruvians. This book aims at making a technical and independent contribution to such debate; it summarizes the knowledge available about the challenges to be faced by the new administration. The study does not recommend silver bullets, but suggests policy options. It is based on the analysis of the current reality and in six decades of relationships with Peru, in which the Bank has implemented more than 100 projects and prepared more than 500 technical reports covering the wide range of development topics. When necessary, the study provides lessons that the Bank has learned elsewhere. The study provides a conceptual framework to the analysis of the country's 34 economic sectors and the two historical perspectives behind them. In doing so, it offers a comprehensive reform agenda that sheds light on possible priorities and courses of action.
