Book Purest of All Lilies

Download or read book Purest of All Lilies written by Donald H. Calloway and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Saint Faustina is well known for the revelations of Divine Mercy that she received from Jesus and recorded in her Diary. But few know that she also received many revelations from the Blessed Virgin Mary and enjoyed a special relationship with her. Now, in Purest of All Lilies, a prominent Marian priest with a background in Mariology explores St. Faustina's rich relationship with Mary from her love of Mary growing up in Poland to the many Diary passages that she devoted to the Mother of God when she was a nun. The reader learns how St. Faustina's father would begin each day singing prayers to the Blessed Virgin and of the family's special May and October devotions to the Mother of God. At the early age of five, the future saint would tell her mother of dreams she had in which she walked hand-in-hand with the Blessed Virgin in a beautiful garden. Along with St. Faustina's early devotion to Mary, the author shows us how the Blessed Mother taught her as a nun important lessons about suffering, purity of heart and humility. Perhaps most fascinating of all, this Marian priest analyses the poems that St. Faustina wrote about Mary and the metaphors she used to describe the Blessed Virgin, including flowers such as the lily, the rose and the violet.

Book A SUMMER IN A CA ON POLLY OLIVER S PROBLEM Illustrated

Download or read book A SUMMER IN A CA ON POLLY OLIVER S PROBLEM Illustrated written by Kate Douglas Wiggin and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2017-05-29 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Summer in a Cañon is a remarkable story of a late 19th-century California life from the point of view of a group of teens and children on the summertime adventure of their lives. The book is following lives of Polly Oliver and her friends and cousins a year or so before she takes off for San Francisco to earn a living and save her mother from destitution. It is a fun chronicle of a summer vacation, during which Polly writes some very clever and humorous letters home, to an invalid cousin in Santa Barbara, where she describes things such as a tarantula fight and donkey riding. Polly Oliver's Problem continues to follow Polly after she comes back from holyday and starts working on her life dream, which is becoming a kindergarten teacher. But her mother, who runs a boarding house, gets ill and Polly must take responsibility. When the doctor suggests a change of climate, Polly moves the family to San Francisco where she keeps trying to fulfill the dream with her mother's blessing. Kate Douglas Wiggin (1856-1923) was an American educator and author of children's stories, most notably the classic children's novel Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. She started the first free kindergarten in San Francisco in 1878 (the Silver Street Free Kindergarten). With her sister during the 1880s, she also established a training school for kindergarten teachers. Kate Wiggin devoted her adult life to the welfare of children in an era when children were commonly thought of as cheap labor.

Download or read book With this Ring written by Anne Alloway and published by Boolarong Press. This book was released on 2016-03-14 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was inspired to compile this book after I saw a beautifully presented book of wedding photos and stories gathered by the Peachester Historical Society. I decided to collect wedding photos of brides or couples who were either born in Hughenden, married, or had been living and working in the Hughenden area up until December 1960. The photographs show the fashions of the time, gradually changing until the Second World War, when in some cases brides were married in street clothes. The weddings had to be arranged around the time the groom could obtain leave, and the wedding party could acquire enough petrol coupons to travel. Mary Sladden remembers having to save up her food coupons and swap them for clothing coupons so that she could buy her dress and shoes. Colleen Murdoch's sister Eileen was an excellent sewer, so she made most of the wedding dresses and head gear for her seven sisters. Likewise, Molly Horton sewed for all her daughters and made their dresses for the big day. Most of the brides chose to be married in their local church. Some of them travelled to Townsville. In the early part of the 20th century, many of the receptions were held at the home of either the bride or groom, or relations offered their house. Some of the weddings were held at their station homesteads. There were quite a few double weddings, which would have kept expenses down. Some of the brides wore a family heirloom. The Lethbridge girls wore a beautiful bridal veil made of Brussels lace that had been sent out from England for the wedding of Ella Minter to Robert Lethbridge in 1863. The Greer girls wore a brooch of pearls and rubies that had been handed down several generations.
