Book The Theories of Turbulence

Download or read book The Theories of Turbulence written by Léon Agostini and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of turbulence reached its full growth at the end of the 19th century as a result of the work by Boussinesq and Reynolds. It then underwent a long period of stagnation which ended under the impulse given to it by the development of wind tunnels caused by the needs of aviation. Numerous researchers, attempted to put Reynolds' elementary statistical theory into a more precise form.

Book The Essence of Turbulence as a Physical Phenomenon

Download or read book The Essence of Turbulence as a Physical Phenomenon written by Arkady Tsinober and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-17 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its second edition, this book clearly, concisely and comprehensively outlines the essence of turbulence. In view of the absence of a theory based on first principles and adequate tools to handle the problem, the “essence” of turbulence, i.e. what turbulence really is from a fundamental point of view, is understood empirically through observations from nature, laboratories and direct numerical simulations rather than explained by means of conventional formalistic aspects, models, etc., resulting in pertinent issues being described at a highly theoretical level in spite of the mentioned lack of theory. As such, the book highlights and critically reexamines fundamental issues, especially those of paradigmatic nature, related to conceptual and problematic aspects, key misconceptions and unresolved matters, and discusses why the problem is so difficult. As in the previous edition, the focus on fundamental issues is also a consequence of the view that without corresponding advances in fundamental aspects there is little chance of progress in any applications. More generally there is a desperate need for physical fundamentals of a great variety of processes in nature and technology in which turbulence plays a central role. Turbulence is omnipresent throughout the natural sciences and technology, but despite the vast sea of information available the book retains its brevity without oversimplifications, making it of interest to a broad audience.

Book INTERMITTENCE EN TURBULENCE 3D

Download or read book INTERMITTENCE EN TURBULENCE 3D written by CLAIRE.. AURIAULT and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CE MEMOIRE PORTE SUR L'ETUDE EXPERIMENTALE DE L'INTERMITTENCE DE LA TEMPERATURE EN TANT QUE SCALAIRE PASSIF, SUR UNE LARGE GAMME DE NOMBRES DE REYNOLDS, DANS DES ECOULEMENTS PLEINEMENT TURBULENTS. CE TRAVAIL EST MOTIVE PAR L'ABSENCE DE THEORIE PERMETTANT DE PRENDRE EN COMPTE LA DYNAMIQUE DU SCALAIRE PASSIF EN TURBULENCE TRIDIMENSIONNELLE AINSI QUE PAR LA DIFFICULTE DE MODELISER NUMERIQUEMENT LE MELANGE DU SCALAIRE, FAUTE DE CONNAITRE LES MECANISMES QUI GENERENT SON INTERMITTENCE A PETITE ECHELLE. NOUS UTILISONS LES TECHNIQUES D'ANEMOMETRIE A FILS CHAUDS ET FROIDS POUR MESURER SIMULTANEMENT LA COMPOSANTE LONGITUDINALE DE LA VITESSE ET LA TEMPERATURE DANS DIFFERENTES CONFIGURATIONS : JET AXISYMETRIQUE ET ECOULEMENT DE SOUFFLERIE A TRES GRAND NOMBRE DE REYNOLDS. A PARTIR DE CES MESURES, NOUS FAISONS UNE ETUDE STATISTIQUE POUR EXAMINER LE CHAMP DE TEMPERATURE ET SES CARACTERISTIQUES EN FONCTION DES CONDITIONS D'EXPERIENCES. TOUT D'ABORD, NOUS MENONS UNE ETUDE STATISTIQUE CLASSIQUE DU SCALAIRE : L'EVOLUTION DE LA FORME DES SPECTRES ET DES DENSITES DE PROBABILITE AINSI QUE L'ISOTROPIE LOCALE SONT ETUDIEES PAR RAPPORT AU TYPE D'ECOULEMENT ET AUX CONDITIONS D'INJECTION DE LA TEMPERATURE ET COMMENTES EN FONCTION DE LA LITTERATURE SUR LE SUJET. NOUS NOUS INTERESSONS ENSUITE PLUS PARTICULIEREMENT A L'INTERMITTENCE DU SCALAIRE PASSIF. NOUS COMMENCONS PAR MONTRER L'INEXISTANCE DE LOIS D'ECHELLES POUR LA TEMPERATURE ET SON TRANSFERT. LA TECHNIQUE D'AUTOSIMILARITE ETENDUE NE NOUS APPORTANT AUCUNE INFORMATION QUANTITATIVE SUR L'INTERMITTENCE DU SCALAIRE, CELLE-CI EST ETUDIEE DE MANIERE PERTINENTE GRACE A L'ANALYSE PAR LES CUMULANTS. NOUS MONTRONS QU'ELLE DEPEND NON SEULEMENT DU TYPE D'ECOULEMENT, MAIS AUSSI, POUR UN ECOULEMENT DONNE, DES CONDITIONS D'EXPERIENCES. PLUS PRECISEMENT, CETTE ANALYSE PERMET DE QUANTIFIER L'INFLUENCE DES CONDITIONS A GRANDE ECHELLE ET DE METTRE EN EVIDENCE LA DEPENDANCE DE L'INTERMITTENCE DU SCALAIRE EN FONCTION DU NOMBRE DE REYNOLDS.

Book Turbulence in the Free Atmosphere

Download or read book Turbulence in the Free Atmosphere written by N. Vinnichenko and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulence-the randomly disordered movement of volumes of air of widely varying size-is one of the characteristic features of atmospheric air flows; its investigation is essential for the solution of several theoretical and practical problems. Until recently, owing to experimental difficulties, research on turbu lence was confmed mainly to the lower half of the troposphere. Theoretical investigations have consequently been based on these data. The rapid development of high-altitude aviation and cases of aircraft encoun tering hazardous turbulence led to a sharp intensification of research on turbu lence in the atmosphere up to 10-12 km, and subsequently at greater altitudes. Such research was confined initially to the characterization of the frequency of occurrence of gusts of different speeds, their relation to altitude, geographical conditions, time of day and year, and so on. At the end of the fifties, when the required measuring equipment and experimental techniques had been developed, it became possible to investigate the complete statistical characteristics of turbu lence: the spectral densities of the velocity fluctuations of air flows, structure functions, etc. These data stimulated the further development of theory related to the specific conditions of the free atmosphere.

Download or read book l ments de turbulence written by Michel Prud'homme and published by Presses inter Polytechnique. This book was released on 2006 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
