Book Etude Num rique de L influence D une Rotation Sur Les coulements Cisaill s Libres

Download or read book Etude Num rique de L influence D une Rotation Sur Les coulements Cisaill s Libres written by Carlos Flores Ibarra and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LES ECOULEMENTS TURBULENTS SONT FREQUEMMENT SOUMIS AUX EFFETS DE LA ROTATION. DES OBSERVATIONS GEOPHYSIQUES, AINSI QUE DES EXPERIENCES DANS LE LABORATOIRE, MONTRENT QUE POUR DES TAUX DE ROTATION MODERES LES TOURBILLONS DONT LA VORTICITE EST PARALLELE ET DE MEME SIGNE QUE LA ROTATION (TOURBILLONS CYCLONIQUES) SONT TOUJOURS RENFORCES, TANDIS QUE CEUX DE SIGNE CONTRAIRE (TOURBILLONS ANTICYCLONIQUES) SONT DETRUITS. CEPENDANT, POUR DE GRANDS TAUX DE ROTATION, LES TOURBILLONS CYCLONIQUES ET ANTICYCLONIQUES SONT BIDIMENSIONNALISES (THEOREME DE TAYLOR-PROUDMAN). CE TRAVAIL ETUDIE L'INFLUENCE D'UNE ROTATION SOLIDE SUR LE DEVELOPPEMENT DES INSTABILITES ET DES TOURBILLONS COHERENTS DANS LES ECOULEMENTS CISAILLES LIBRES (COUCHE DE MELANGE ET SILLAGE PLAN). DEUX APPROCHES ONT ETE UTILISEES: SIMULATION NUMERIQUE, ET THEORIE LINEAIRE DE L'INSTABILITE HYDRODYNAMIQUE. LES RESULTATS DES SIMULATIONS NUMERIQUES DIRECTES DES EQUATIONS DE NAVIER-STOKES INCOMPRESSIBLES ONT CONFIRME LES OBSERVATIONS: STABILISATION DES TOURBILLONS CYCLONIQUES, DESTABILISATION DES ANTICYCLONES POUR DES TAUX DE ROTATION MODERES, ET BIDIMENSIONNALISATION DES TOURBILLONS CYCLONIQUES ET ANTICYCLONIQUES POUR DE GRANDS TAUX DE ROTATION. EN OUTRE, ELLES ONT AUSSI MONTRE QUE LA DESTABILISATION DES TOURBILLONS ANTICYCLONIQUES ENTRAINE LA FORMATION DE TOURBILLONS LONGITUDINAUX CONTRAROTATIFS INTENSES. CES TOURBILLONS ONT ETE OBSERVES DANS LES ECOULEMENTS CISAILLES CONFINES TOURNANTS ET PRESENTENT DES ANALOGIES AVEC LES TOURBILLONS DE GORTLER DANS UNE COUCHE LIMITE CONCAVE. LA RESOLUTION DE L'EQUATION D'ORR-SOMMERFELD CONFIRME QUE LES MODES LES PLUS INSTABLES, POUR UNE ROTATION ANTICYCLONIQUE MODEREE, SONT DES MODES LONGITUDINAUX: LA LONGUEUR D'ONDE SUIVANT L'ENVERGURE DES TOURBILLONS LONGITUDINAUX OBSERVES DANS LES SIMULATIONS NUMERIQUES TRIDIMENSIONNELLES EST EN BON ACCORD AVEC LES PREDICTIONS DE LA THEORIE DE LA STABILITE LINEAIRE. L'ANALYSE DES RESULTATS A LA LUMIERE D'UNE THEORIE BASEE SUR LE THEOREME DE KELVIN EN MILIEU TOURNANT MONTRE QUE CES TOURBILLONS LONGITUDINAUX RESULTENT DE L'ETIREMENT DE FILAMENTS VORTEX DE FAIBLE VORTICITE ABSOLUE

Book Basic Concepts for Simple and Complex Liquids

Book excerpt: Earthen architecture constitutes one of the most diverse forms of cultural heritage and one of the most challenging to preserve. It dates from all periods and is found on all continents but is particularly prevalent in Africa, where it has been a building tradition for centuries. Sites range from ancestral cities in Mali to the palaces of Abomey in Benin, from monuments and mosques in Iran and Buddhist temples on the Silk Road to Spanish missions in California. This volume's sixty-four papers address such themes as earthen architecture in Mali, the conservation of living sites, local knowledge systems and intangible aspects, seismic and other natural forces, the conservation and management of archaeological sites, research advances, and training.

Book IUTAM Symposium on Variable Density Low Speed Turbulent Flows

Download or read book IUTAM Symposium on Variable Density Low Speed Turbulent Flows written by Louis Fulachier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The General Assembly of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in its meeting on August 28, 1994, selected for 1996 only four Mechanics Symposia, of which ours is the only one related to Fluid Mechanics: Variable Density Low Speed Turbulent Flows. This IUTAM Symposium, organized by the Institut de Recherche sur les Phenomenes Hors Equilibre (Marseille), is the logical continuation of the meetings previously organized or co-organized - on the French or European level, such as Euromech 237, Marseille, 1988 - by the same research group ofMarseille. This meeting focused specifically on the structure of turbulent flows in which density varies strongly : the effect of this variation on the velocity and scalar fields is in no sense negligible. We were mainly concerned with low-speed flows subjected to strong local changes of density as a consequence of heat or mass transfer or of chemical reactions. Compressible turbulent flows - such a!" supersonic ones - were also considered in order to underline their similarities to and their differences from low-speed variable density flows.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This popular, often cited text returns in a softcover edition to provide a thorough introduction to statistical physics and thermodynamics, and to exhibit the universal chain of ideas leading from the laws of microphysics to the macroscopic behaviour of matter. A wide range of applications illustrates the concepts, and many exercises reinforce understanding. Volume II applies statistical methods to systems governed by quantum effects, in particular to solid state physics, explaining properties due to the crystal structure or to the lattice excitations or to the electrons. The last chapters are devoted to non-equilibrium processes and to kinetic equations, with many applications included.

Download or read book Flow Sensing in Air and Water written by Horst Bleckmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-22 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, leading scientists in the fields of sensory biology, neuroscience, physics and engineering explore the basic operational principles and behavioral uses of flow sensing in animals and how they might be applied to engineering applications such as autonomous control of underwater or aerial vehicles. Although humans possess no flow-sensing abilities, countless aquatic (e.g. fish, cephalopods and seals), terrestrial (e.g. crickets and spiders) and aerial (e.g. bats) animals have flow sensing abilities that underlie remarkable behavioral feats. These include the ability to follow silent hydrodynamic trails long after the trailblazer has left the scene, to form hydrodynamic images of their environment in total darkness, and to swim or fly efficiently and effortlessly in the face of destabilizing currents and winds.
