Le rôle exact du lanthane, bien que généralement introduit en tant que dopant afin de limiter cette baisse d'activité (en préservant les caractéristiques structurales et texturales du catalyseur) est cependant mal connu. Il est établi que celui-ci intervient par la formation d'un oxyde de type perovskite, aluminate de lantane, présentant une cohérence structurale de surface avec l'alumine active support du catalyseur, en limitant la nucléation de germes de corindon. La réactivité des métaux du groupe platine est interprétée par la théorie des acides et des bases de Pearson. Enfin, il esr montré que pour ce qui est de la conversion tri-fonctionnelle, la formulation optimale des catalyseurs est bi-métallique, Pt/Rh, et que ces deux métaux présentent des relations synergiques.

Besides a common macroscopic (continuum) description the microscopic theory of flexoelectricity is also addressed. Special emphasis is given to the role of flexoelectricity in pattern-forming instabilities.
