Il s'est attaché à rendre compte des points de séquence et des ruptures des trajectoires des jeunes sourds : choix de l'appareillage, du mode de communication, du type de scolarité... Nous avons émis l'hypothèse que ces trajectoires étaient tracées en fonction des choix parentaux, de leur représentation de la surdité et des stigmates engendrés par cette pathologie. Pour confirmer ou infirmer cela, deux types de méthodologies ont été mises en place. D'une part, des entretiens semi-directifs de parents qui sont au coeur des décisions concernant les soins et la scolarité de leur enfant sourd. D'autre part, nous avons dépouillé les dossiers de jeunes sourds dans le cadre d'une méthodologie quantitative nous permettant de réunir des données plus importantes sur leur trajectoire. Ces analyses ont permis de mettre en évidence des trajectoires définies à travers une typologie de parents entendants. En effet, deux types de parcours parentaux ressortent : le premier vise une normalisation de l'enfant ; le deuxième a pour objectif cardinal le bien être de l'enfant. Enfin, ces travaux ouvrent sur deux nouvelles perspectives de recherche : l'aspect historique de la représentation de la surdité et son influence sur les trajectoires des jeunes sourds ainsi que la possibilité d'une typologie de parents sourds.

Cependant, les accompagnements proposés ne suffisent pas à y répondre amenant les parents à recourir à des ressources complémentaires. En outre, l'analyse a révélé que l'enfant sourd et ses parents suivent des trajectoires de soin sensiblement similaires, jalonnées d'étapes incontournables et semblables à tous. De fait, l'éventail des possibilités qui leur sont offertes est en réalité réduit les orientant ainsi vers des choix analogues. Enfin, ce travail a contribué à faire évoluer notre future pratique professionnelle. Il nous paraît aujourd'hui essentiel que l'orthophoniste, face à la dichotomie conceptuelle dans laquelle s'inscrit la surdité, adopte une posture neutre, prenne en compte l'expérience des familles et respecte chacune de leur décision, afin qu'elles puissent bénéficier de l'accompagnement le plus adapté.

Book excerpt: Contexte : En France, les personnes sourdes locutrices en Langue des Signes Française (LSF) représentent une minorité culturelle et linguistique. Par manque d'accessibilité à l'information et à un milieu médical bilingue, cette population reçoit peu les messages de prévention de santé. Les conséquences sur la santé physique et psychologique de l'usage des écrans par les enfants sont connues. Des recommandations existent pour guider les parents. Afin de proposer une prévention adaptée aux parents sourds, il semble nécessaire de mieux connaître les habitudes d'utilisation des écrans dans cette population. Objectif : L'objectif principal de ce travail était de recueillir les pratiques quotidiennes d'utilisation des écrans au sein des foyers et d'établir un aperçu des représentations des parents sourds concernant l'utilisation des écrans par leurs enfants. Méthode : Une étude qualitative par entretiens semi-dirigés individuels a été réalisée en 2021 auprès de parents sourds locuteurs en LSF vivant en région Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. Une méthode d'analyse inductive générale et thématisation a été effectuée. Résultats : 11 entretiens ont été réalisés. La télévision, écran non interactif, reste le plus accessible et le plus utilisé par les enfants. Les plus petits y sont exposés passivement, le grand enfant volontairement et souvent seul. Les écrans interactifs (tablette, smartphone) s'ajoutent à l'usage de la télévision avec la réalisation majoritaire d'activités non interactives (visionnage de vidéos sur Internet). L'adolescent possède un smartphone, il est décrit comme “accro” et utilise seul les réseaux sociaux. Le confinement lié à la pandémie Covid-19 a été décrit par une famille comme ayant démultiplié l'usage des écrans au domicile. Les écrans sont une source de plaisir, d'apaisement, un outil éducatif, et sont ainsi utilisés pour stimuler la communication orale chez l'Enfant Entendant né de Parents Sourds (EEPS). En cas de surutilisation, que les parents n'arrivent pas à quantifier, les enfants peuvent présenter des troubles somatiques, une tension interne, des troubles de la concentration, un isolement social et familial. Les craintes parentales concernent le risque d'addiction et le harcèlement via les réseaux sociaux. Le niveau de contrôle au domicile et de connaissance des effets néfastes des écrans chez l'enfant varient parmi les parents interrogés. Pour le parent sourd, l'écran est un besoin personnel. Il est une révolution pour la communication et l'accès à l'information en LSF. Au domicile, il est une aide à la parentalité pour se libérer du temps. Les parents décrivent des difficultés éducatives dans la gestion des écrans générant culpabilité et résignation. Certains estiment que leur usage influence celui de leurs enfants et que l'utilisation des écrans vient interrompre les interactions parents-enfants, ce qui est conceptualisé par le terme de « technoférence parentale ». En matière de prévention, les parents étaient demandeurs de groupes d'échange et d'une vidéo d'information en LSF. Conclusion : Ce travail de recherche a permis de mieux comprendre les représentations des parents sourds sur l'usage des écrans par leurs enfants, thème qui n'a pas été abordé dans la littérature. Comme demandé, il serait nécessaire de réaliser des groupes d'échange et une vidéo d'information en LSF. Il conviendrait secondairement de mesurer l'évolution des connaissances parentales et l'impact sur l'exposition de leurs enfants aux écrans.

Book excerpt: Le dépistage néonatal de surdité rendu systématique en maternité depuis 2014 est venu modifier considérablement le diagnostic puis l’annonce aux parents. Cette recherche a pour objectif d’étudier les représentations et les parcours de parents entendants d’enfants sourds, à partir du dépistage de surdité, jusqu’au diagnostic, à l’annonce, puis aux « choix » de communication et de scolarisation. Un deuxième volet développe les programmes de scolarisation mis en place pour les enfants sourds en France, et particulièrement le Pôle d’éducation pour les jeunes sourds (PEJS), créés en 2017, qui viennent répondre au principe d’inclusion en milieu ordinaire, tout en offrant la possibilité d’une scolarisation en accord avec les choix linguistiques de la famille. Au total, soixante-et-un entretiens ont été menés. Pour moitié auprès de familles dont les enfants sourds ont aujourd’hui entre six et dix ans, et auprès de personnes sourdes adultes communiquant en langue des signes et à l’oral vocal. Ces différents témoignages croisés donnent à voir des expériences contrastées et nous ont amené à questionner les notions de handicap, d’identité, de langue et de culture. L’autre moitié concerne les responsables pédagogiques et enseignants d’établissements scolairesaccueillant des élèves sourds en France et dans plusieurs états des États-Unis, d’est en ouest. Ces entretiens et observations ont apporté un regard complémentaire sur les pratiques didactiques à destination des élèves sourds et nous ont amené à proposer des pistes d’adaptations pédagogiques, décrites comme étant peu développées en France selon plusieurs enseignants interrogés.
