Book excerpt: La convection naturelle thermique et massique qui se déroule dans un système constituté d'une enceinte fermée dont l'une des parois verticales est assimilée à un matériau poreux saturé d'eau est analysée numériquement. Les transferts dans l'enceinte et dans le milieu poreux sont décrits respectivement par les équations classiques de la convection naturelle et le modèle de Darcy. Ces équations sont résolues en utilisant la formulation fonction de courant-vorticité et une méthode implicite aux différences finies. Le modèle élaboré permet de déterminer les isothermes, les isoconcentrations et les lignes de courant dans le système. Les valeurs instantanées locales et moyennes des nombres de Nusselt et de Sherwood sont également calculées. Les résultats montrent que les transferts sont d'autant plus intenses que le rapport de forme de l'enceinte et la densité du flux de chaleur appliqué sur la face externe de la paroi poreuse sont élevés. La conductivité thermique, la perméabilité du matériau dont est constituée la paroi poreuse et sa teneur en eau conditionnent l'intensité des transferts dans l'enceinte.

Lorsque les parois du thermosiphon sont des surfaces hyperboliques les équations de transfert adimensionnelles, écrites dans un système de coordonnées elliptico-cylindriques, sont résolues à l'aide de la méthode des volumes de contrôle associé au schéma de la loi de puissance de Patankar. Les influences du nombre Grashof, du facteur de courbure et de la demi-hauteur sur les champs des températures et des vitesses, les transferts de chaleur et les valeurs des grandeurs de sortie sont analysés.
