Book 1 2 diaminoethane ethylenediamine

Download or read book 1 2 diaminoethane ethylenediamine written by R. Cary and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise assessment of the risks to human health and the environment posed by exposure to 1 2-diaminoethane. Commonly known as ethylenediamine (EDA), this compound is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of tetraacetyl ethylenediamine ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) organic flocculants urea resins and fatty bisamides. Its use in photography chemicals may also contribute to its presence in the environment. Concerning environmental behavior, studies indicate rapid biodegradation; bioaccumulation is judged unlikely. Although data on environmental levels and human exposure are extremely limited, the report notes that the production of formulations using EDA usually takes place in well-ventilated enclosed systems thus reducing the potential for occupational exposure via inhalation. Studies conducted in experimental animals show moderate acute toxicity. Findings support the conclusion that EDA is a skin irritant and a skin sensitizer. Data were judged inadequate to support an assessment of mutagenic potential. The report found no evidence of carcinogenicity in animal studies. Although non-neoplastic effects on the liver have been reported, the significance of these findings for human health remains uncertain.

Book Periodic Mesoporous Organosilicas

Download or read book Periodic Mesoporous Organosilicas written by Chang-Sik Ha and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-07 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamental properties, preparation routes and applications of a novel class of organic–inorganic nanocomposites known as periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs). Mesoporous silicas are amorphous inorganic materials which have silicon and oxygen atoms in their framework with pore size ranging from 2 to 50 nm. They can be synthesized from surfactants as templates for the polycondensation of various silicon sources such as tetraalkoxysilane. In general, mesoporous silica materials possess high surface areas, tunable pore diameters, high pore volumes and well uniformly organized porosity. The stable chemical property and the variable ability for chemical modification makes them ideal for many applications such as drug carrier, sensor, separation, catalyst, and adsorbent. Among such mesoporous silicas, in 1999, three groups in Canada, Germany, and Japan independently developed a novel class of organic–inorganic nanocomposites known as periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs). The organic functional groups in the frameworks of these solids allow tuning of their surface properties and modification of the bulk properties of the material. The book discusses the properties of PMOs, their preparation, different functionalities and morphology, before going on to applications in fields such as catalysis, drug delivery, sensing, optics, electronic devices, environmental applications (gas sensing and gas adsorption), biomolecule adsorption and chromatography. The book provides fundamental understanding of PMOs and their advanced applications for general materials chemists and is an excellent guide to these promising novel materials for graduate students majoring in chemical engineering, chemistry, polymer science and materials science and engineering.

Book CRC Handbook of Food Drug and Cosmetic Excipients

Download or read book CRC Handbook of Food Drug and Cosmetic Excipients written by Susan C. Smolinske and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CRC Handbook of Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Excipients provides a comprehensive summary of toxicological issues regarding inactive ingredients in pharmaceutical products, cosmetic products, and food additives. Background information on regulations and labeling requirements for each type of product is provided, and 77 articles critically review human and animal data pertinent to a variety of agents and makes judgments regarding the clinical relevance. The book also identifies at-risk populations, such as neonates, patients with renal failure, and atopic patients. Inactive common pharmaceutical agents and/or foods containing certain ingredients are listed to help physicians counsel hypersensitive patients who must avoid products containing these excipients.

Book Diagnostic Function Tests in Chemical Pathology

Download or read book Diagnostic Function Tests in Chemical Pathology written by P.T. Lascelles and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1990-03-31 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written for hospital doctors, nurses, biochemists, medi cal laboratory scientific officers and phlebotomists involved with the biochemical investigation of patients. It is hoped, also, that general practitioners and medical students will find it of help. Whilst the vast majority of biochemical tests assess the level of constituents in blood and urine at a given point in time, an impor tant additional parameter is the assessment of physiological reserve function by means of loading tests, prOlonged fasting, exercise and clearance studies. The protocol and interpretation of response of each of these stress tests form the main basis of the text. An attempt has been made to be reasonably comprehensive in the range of tests described; hence, not only have some rather older ones been re tained, but also some very recently introduced ones included. It is appreciated that practice varies widely from laboratory to labora tory with respect to protocol, sample collection, methodology and quotation of reference ranges, and no doubt also from clinician to clinician, particularly regarding interpretation of results. In paedi atric work, micromethods will demand much smaller volumes of blood than those stated here, which relate generally to adult medi cine. The account, therefore, must be seen as a guide to practice rather than as a recipe; it is in no wayan attempt to standardise procedures, which depend on the local requirements.
