Bei öffentlichen Auftritten äußerte Gerhard Schröder immer wieder, dass es für ihn eine moralische, eine ethische Frage sei, ob deutsche Soldaten am Irak Krieg beteiligt sein sollen oder nicht. Und er entschied sich gegen ihre Beteiligung. Es ist jedoch fraglich, ob Gerhard Schröder sich aus wahltaktischen Gründen, die nichts als den Machterhalt im Auge haben, oder tatsächlich aus seiner inneren Überzeugung für ein solch klares „Nein“ entschied. Dies lässt sich nicht klären. Tatsache ist, dass Gerhard Schröder von den Wählern im Amt bestätigt wurde - auch, weil sie seine Überzeugung von einer Politik ohne Waffengewalt teilten, oder diese sie beeindruckte. Ob und wie Ethik und Moral in der Politik überhaupt eine Rolle spielen ist eine Frage, der sich bereits Max Weber in seiner Rede „Politik als Beruf“ und Robert Michels in „Masse, Führer, Intellektuelle. Politisch soziologische Aufsätze“ stellen. „Wie aber steht es mit der wirklichen Beziehung zwischen Ethik und Politik? Haben sie, wie man gelegentlich gesagt hat, gar nichts miteinander zu tun“? (Weber: 67). Ihre Antworten fallen unterschiedlich aus. So ist es Ziel dieser Arbeit, die unterschiedliche Bedeutung, die Max Weber und Robert Michels der Überzeugung eines Berufspolitikers von ethischen und moralischen Prinzipien beimessen, herauszuarbeiten. Hierzu bedarf es in einem einführenden Kapitel zunächst der abstrakten Begriffsklärung von Ethik und Moral, losgelöst von der Auffassung beider Wissenschaftler. Auch soll hier die Bedeutung der beiden Begriffe aus dem Bereich der Philosophie für politische Entscheidung geklärt werden. In den folgenden beiden Abschnitten dieser Arbeit werden die Betrachtungsweisen von Weber und Michels dargestellt. In einer Schlussbetrachtung werden die wichtigsten Erkenntnisse zusammengefasst, und gegenübergestellt.

Vor dem Hintergrund einer sich zunehmend pluralisierenden moralisch-politischen Meinungsbildung und der abnehmenden Autorität bislang beherrschender Meinungsführer sind die zur Entscheidung Aufgerufenen allerdings immer weniger sicher, welchen Weg sie einschlagen wollen und sollen. Verstärkt greifen sie deshalb auf die Vorschläge von Beratungsgremien zurück, in denen den traditionell theoriebezogenen normativen Disziplinen die Aufgabe zu kommt, sich mit Realproblemen zu befassen. Den Moralphilosophen wird damit eine Rolle zugewiesen, auf die sie einigermassen unvorbereitet sind. Die Schwierigkeiten, die viele Philosophen mit der Rolle haben, in die sie die gesellschaftlichen Erwartungen drängen, liegen vor allem in einer objektiven Unischerheit über Struktur, Ziele und Verfahrensweisen ethischer Politikberatung unter den Bedingungen einer pluralistischen und liberalen Gesellschaft. Das vorliegende Buch zielt darauf, diese konzeptionelle Lücke zu schliessen.

It stems from a need to think about questions of justice and living a good life in practice but not from some absolute or abstract point of view. As it is often framed, humanisation is concerned with working towards a more human type of organisation. Organisation studies are concerned with understanding organisations and their role in our society, and developing perspectives and methods to improve them, while humanisation theories, on the other hand, do not represent a managerial blueprint as they tend to incorporate notions of situated knowledge, sense-making and relational value, drawing our attention to specific processes rather than offering universal truths. Although Critical Management Studies counters mainstream managerialism, it still tends to produce the same kind of ‘truths’ that are supposed to apply to all organisations. Much of the existing management literature is related to control and offers strategies on how to do things but this is not about prescriptions, rather how to explore possibilities from both theoretical and practical perspectives. It offers managers as well as theoreticians of organisations the possibility to question their grounding principles. In the variety of contributions to this book the authors reflect on their understanding of what it is to be human and whether this can be found in the way that organisations are run. They consider the value of humanisation to understand and intervene in organisations and the challenges they face.
