Download or read book Ethics and Literature in Chile Argentina and Paraguay 1970 2000 written by Carlos M. Amador and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-04 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues for a new reading of the political and ethical through the literatures of Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay from 1970-2000. Carlos Amador reads a series of examples from the last dictatorship and the current post-dictatorship period in the Southern Cone, including works by Augusto Roa Bastos, Roberto Bolaño, Ceferino Reato, Horacio Verbitsky, Nelly Richard, Diamela Eltit, and Willy Thayer, with the goal of uncovering the logic behind their conceptions of belonging and rejection. Focusing on theoretical concepts that make possible the formation of any and all communities, this study works towards a vision of literature as essential to the structure of ethics.

Book World Literature Cosmopolitanism Globality

Download or read book World Literature Cosmopolitanism Globality written by Gesine Müller and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From today’s vantage point it can be denied that the confidence in the abilities of globalism, mobility, and cosmopolitanism to illuminate cultural signification processes of our time has been severely shaken. In the face of this crisis, a key concept of this globalizing optimism as World Literature has been for the past twenty years necessarily is in the need of a comprehensive revision. World Literature, Cosmopolitanism, Globality: Beyond, Against, Post, Otherwise offers a wide range of contributions approaching the blind spots of the globally oriented Humanities for phenomena that in one way or another have gone beyond the discourses, aesthetics, and political positions of liberal cosmopolitanism and neoliberal globalization. Departing basically (but not exclusively) from different examples of Latin American literatures and cultures in globalized contexts, this volume provides innovative insights into critical readings of World Literature and its related conceptualizations. A timely book that embraces highly innovative perspectives, it will be a mustread for all scholars involved in the field of the global dimensions of literature.

Book Centres et p riph ries de la litt rature mondiale

Download or read book Centres et p riph ries de la litt rature mondiale written by Amaury Dehoux and published by Editions Publibook. This book was released on 2018 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Food is one of the most basic resources that humans need for daily survival. Forty percent of the world’s population gains a livelihood from agriculture and we all consume food. Yet control over this fundamental resource is concentrated in relatively few hands. The 2008 food price crisis illustrated both the volatility and vulnerability built into the current global food system; at the height of the crisis, the number of hungry people on the planet climbed to over 1 billion. At the same time, there are serious ecological consequences that stem from an increasingly industrial model of agriculture that has spread worldwide. This book aims to contribute to a fuller understanding of the forces that influence and shape the current global food system. Author Jennifer Clapp explores how corporate control, inequitable international agricultural trade rules, and the financialization of farm commodities have each had a fundamental influence on the practices that dominate today’s global food system. By contrast, farmers and consumers, particularly in the developing world, have had little voice to change the rules of the game. But movements are emerging to challenge the dominant global system. The extent to which these alternative movements can displace it, however, remains to be seen.

Book This Is What They Say

Download or read book This Is What They Say written by M. Bartley Seigel and published by . This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This Is What They Say introduces us to a poet of intensity and passion who sings against the backdrop of a world we know intimately, but which he has shown to us with new eyes. Dark and humorous, these pieces revel in language as they illuminate with imagery. M. Bartley Seigel is an important poet, writing about a time and a place that matter." --Laura Kasischke, author of National Book Critics Circle Award-winner Space, In Chains and The Life Before Her Eyes Michigan's economic boom and bust murmurs like an omen for a now-struggling America in This Is What They Say, as poet M. Bartley Seigel reminds us, "we are all collapsing stars." If you listen close, you can hear the secret, untold desires, the "ragged, roiling rage" that emanates from the break rooms and abandoned barns of the upper midwest. Here is the honest account of lives where "scars are replaced with more scars." This is how it feels to grow into adulthood in a first-world wasteland: the slow burn of homemade liquor, the bone-deep ache of a cavity, and the keen of metal against glass. This is the moving and tragic strain that comes between families as they attempt to "clasp arms and dive into this thing together, electric and beautiful as bullets," and This Is What They Say.

Students of trends, policymakers, entrepreneurs, academics, journalists and anyone eager for a glimpse into the next decades, will find this report, with colored graphs, essential reading.
