Book excerpt: Eternity's Handmaiden is a fast paced espionage thriller taking the reader from one end of the timeline to another. No one ever escapes The Agency. Tuesday, 6 August 2085 1500 Archangel Her frowned deepened as she erased the message and then all traces that it had even made it to her. It was what she had feared: a rendezvous. They would be by this afternoon to pick her up, take her away from her pristine Alaskan solitude and into a world that she had sworn off of. Or so she had thought. She quickly learned long ago, much to her dismay, that one ever left the agency. Its insidious fingers, like the very talons of death, were always there, ready at any moment to pounce and dig themselves in, dragging one back into a world of intrigue and treachery, death and foulness that filled her mouth with such a taste of shit that she almost gagged. When she had left fifteen years ago, after forty years of faithful service, she had made it clear that she was done with it all, finished with walking in the shadows and killing in the darkness. But they had had other plans.

Book excerpt: Gemini is the story of young Bascomb McGoslin and his search for love and spiritual fulfillment—a search which became a desperate flight from the life and the world he had known before. Behind Bascomb’s headlong escape was June Cyzmanski—a willful, beautiful creature as hungry for love as he, but with an honesty he had not yet achieved. Torn by his passion for Cyz and by his guilt over their love affair, Bascomb was impelled to seek absolution for his sins within the religious life. Gemini is many things. It is a bold and honest portrait of a man trapped by his own keen intelligence in a nightmare of doubt and ignorance. It is a fascinating and faithful recreation of seminary life. And, above all, it is a haunting story of love—between man and woman, man and God. William Kelley was born in 1929, the fourth of seven children. His first novel, Gemini was a best seller when first published in 1959. He has an extensive background as both writer and producer, having written numerous movies and series for television as well as 7 novels. He received an Academy Award for best screenplay in 1986 for Witness.

Book Handmaid to Theology

    Book Details:

  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2009-07-01

Download or read book Handmaid to Theology written by Winfried Corduan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A most needed and creative beginning in theological prolegomena, says Norman L. Geisler of Handmaid to Theology. In this work the long-neglected use of philosophy in evangelical theology is overcome. Philosophical Prolegomena does not in this case constitute an introduction to theology, preliminary material of which one must dispose before delving into the actual content of divine revelation. Instead it constitutes a handmaid to theology, the philosophical categories that necessarily help to shape each doctrine. In addition to demonstrating the inevitable reliance of theology on certain philosophical concepts, the author pleads for a clear distinction between biblical theology and systematic theology within the evangelical tradition. Particularly helpful . . . says Geisler, is the emphasis on the need to use biblically compatible concepts in order to construct a systematic theology. After two introductory chapters (What Is Prolegomena? and Prolegomena: The Starting Point), the author devotes two chapters to the doctrine of man, as many to the doctrine of revelation, three to the doctrine of God, and a final chapter to the doctrine of regeneration. This book turns over new ground in theological prolegomena, concludes Geisler. Its pace-setting insights could, and I hope will, signal a return to a proper harmony between philosophy and biblical theology in the practice of systematic theology among evangelicals.

Book Christ and Freud RLE Freud

Download or read book Christ and Freud RLE Freud written by Arthur Guirdham and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1959, this book is primarily concerned with the question of psychiatric factors in religion, and, conversely, with that of religious factors in psychiatry. It rejects the Freudian theory that religion is a form of obsessional neurosis. Though this latter hypothesis may explain many of the phenomena of religious observance, it cannot explain the reality of religious experience. Dr Guirdham believes that orthodox Christianity is a perversion of the psychologically irrefutable teaching of Christ and that its conception of God as a supreme being endowed with supreme power, its teaching on the resurrection, and its contamination with a sense of guilt, are especially conducive to psychiatric disorder. He shows how theology may actually be inimical to religious experience and how faith differs from belief and is a response of the whole man. The book explains also the psychological origins of clericalism and demonstrates the role played by the latter in stifling religious experience.

Download or read book Healing the Schism written by Jennifer M. Rosner and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2021-07-28 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past and future of Jewish-Christian dialogue The history of the relationship between Judaism and Christianity is storied and tragic. However, recent decades show promise as both parties reflect on their self-definitions and mutual contingency and consider possible ways forward. In Healing the Schism, Jennifer M. Rosner maps the new Jewish-Christian encounter from its origins in the early twentieth-century pioneers to its current representatives. Rosner first traces the thought of Karl Barth and Frank Rosenzweig and brings them into conversation. Rosner then outlines the reassessments and developments of post-Holocaust theological architects that moved the dialogue forward and set the stage for today. She considers the recent work of Messianic Jewish theologian Mark S. Kinzer and concludes by envisioning future possibilities. With clarity and rigor, Rosner offers a robust perspective of Judaism and Christianity that is post-supersessionist and theologically orthodox. Healing the Schism is essential reading for understanding the perils and promise of Messianic Jewish identity and Jewish-Christian theological conversation.
