Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller In this pathbreaking guide, two of the world’s most popular and trusted pet care advocates reveal new science to teach us how to delay aging and provide a long, happy, healthy life for our canine companions. Like their human counterparts, dogs have been getting sicker and dying prematurely over the past few decades. Why? Scientists are beginning to understand that the chronic diseases afflicting humans—cancer, obesity, diabetes, organ degeneration, and autoimmune disorders—also beset canines. As a result, our beloved companions are vexed with preventable health problems throughout much of their lives and suffer shorter life spans. Because our pets can’t make health and lifestyle decisions for themselves, it’s up to pet parents to make smart, science-backed choices for lasting vitality and health. The Forever Dog gives us the practical, proven tools to protect our loyal four-legged companions. Rodney Habib and Karen Becker, DVM, globetrotted (pre-pandemic) to galvanize the best wisdom from top geneticists, microbiologists, and longevity researchers; they also interviewed people whose dogs have lived into their 20s and even 30s. The result is this unprecedented and comprehensive guide, filled with surprising information, invaluable advice, and inspiring stories about dogs and the people who love them. The Forever Dog prescriptive plan focuses on diet and nutrition, movement, environmental exposures, and stress reduction, and can be tailored to the genetic predisposition of particular breeds or mixes. The authors discuss various types of food—including what the commercial manufacturers don’t want us to know—and offer recipes, easy solutions, and tips for making sure our dogs obtain the nutrients they need. Habib and Dr. Becker also explore how external factors we often don’t think about can greatly affect a dog’s overall health and wellbeing, from everyday insults to the body and its physiology, to the role our own lifestyles and our vets’ choices play. Indeed, the health equation works both ways and can travel “up the leash.” Medical breakthroughs have expanded our choices for canine health—if you know what they are. This definitive dog-care guide empowers us with the knowledge we need to make wise choices, and to keep our dogs healthy and happy for years to come.

Book excerpt: Muffin was a rescue dog, an ordinary mongrel who joined the Bardsley McGee family in Leeds in 1999. She was three years old, a 'little shipwreck' of a dog who had been badly neglected, undernourished and contained in a high-rise flat for whole of her young life. The family she came into was also under pressure, as the writer's husband Tim was in the middle of a long struggle with cancer and had been told earlier that year that his illness was terminal. Never having previously shown interest in animals, Tim bonded almost instantly with chaotic little Muffin, who became a steadfast companion during his final months. And during the dark days after Tim's death, and when the author's daughter left for university, Muffin became a loyal friend with an uncanny ability to display empathy around times of illness and loss. With Muffin reaching the end of her days, author Barney Bardsley looks back over the eventful years they have shared, to remember the joy and laughter that this loving, soulful creature brought to her family. Her story will strike a chord with anyone who has ever loved, and been loved, by a pet.

Book OF DOGS AND MEN A myth therapy

Download or read book OF DOGS AND MEN A myth therapy written by Marc Asanov Archibald and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2016-08-03 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A group of pseudo scientists assemble to devise a revolutionary experiment that could change the concept of creation and evolution of species. The experiment would create the bases of a sudden transformation of a dog into a man. The scientists discuss issues that may concern such transformation from a dog into a man such as feeding, sex habits, and bathroom routines. Freud, Darwin and God are cited copiously to support such a sudden metamorphosis. At the end of the convention the scientists are preparing manuals to be used by people that would like to transform their dog into a man. Bruce and Estelle, the owners of a German shepherd dog, named Rex are some of the dog masters that receive those manuals by mail. They find out that Rex’s dream is in fact to become a superman. Bruce and Estelle transform their backyard into a classroom; the table is full of books ready for reading and two posters depicting a dog male and a dog female anatomy on the back wall. They begin teaching Rex elementary things such as vocabulary, numbers, sexual behavior and manly attitude towards women. Estelle especially spends time showing Rex her body, letting him touch her breasts, and all. Bruce and Estelle also discuss other topics such as the history of humanity, time, religion, sins, and facts of life. What started as a routine class following the “scientific” manuals becomes slowly a hodge-podge of useful teaching coupled with “information waste”. Estelle talks of a possibility to see one day her mom pass by and find out that Rex is not anymore a dog. At that stage Rex has enough knowledge to stop listening to his two tutors and become involved in expressing original ideas and also declare openly his love for Estelle, which infuriates Bruce. During the lessons Rex’s appearance changes slowly into a man. Almost at the end of this transformation process a woman wearing circus like huge prosthetic legs approaches the three protagonists. She tells them that their attempt to transform a dog into a man is illegal and threatens to report them to the police. Bruce and Estelle ignore her. Only Rex becomes apprehensive that police may end his dream to become a full-fledged man. As physical transformation of Rex into a man becomes obvious, Estelle asks him to change his “fur coat” with a cardigan she knitted meanwhile. As expected, Estelle’s mom comes by one day and is pleasantly surprised by Rex’s transformation into a gentleman though she finds Rex’s declared passion for Estelle very disturbing. She runs out of the courtyard into the house with the pretext of taking a nap. Not long after that a group made out of four policemen and a priest and exhibiting a sturm-und-drang behavior push through the door and demand explanations about “the metamorphosis situation”. The priest is the one that reads the bible paragraphs that describe the human-dog coitus as being a forbidden sin. A “Scientific” policeman inquires about Bruce’s qualification to transform dogs into men.

Book The Eternal Child

Download or read book The Eternal Child written by Clive Bromhall and published by Ebury Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clive Bromhall's ground breaking book is the story of a single evolutionary process which has shaped the human species. The process, known as neoteny, has been massively underestimated by scientists until now. It explains everything from our hairless skin to our upright stance and, argues Bromhall, unlocks the key to human nature and to the future of homo sapiens. The human species, says Bromhall - radically but convincingly has anatomically and behaviourally regressed into a state of pemanent childhood. Humans are not in fact mature primates, but rather over grown baby apes. In essence, in order to survive our environment, in order to create a social species and allow our brains to develop, our species has been completely infantised. With this key Clive Bromhall proceeds to unlock many of the mysteries of human behaviour and forces us to reassess our thinking on human nature, and the power of the child within. The result of years of research, The Eternal Child is thought provoking and highly readable and will explain mysteries such as why some of us are homosexual, the differences between races, the need for religion and the dynamic of male/femal relationships. Each decade produces one seminal, challenging and opinion-changing popular science title. This decade it will be The Eternal Child.

Book The Essence of Love Eternal

Download or read book The Essence of Love Eternal written by Lisa Rogers and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2023-03-20 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Well, I would like to begin by saying that I am so grateful to Page Publishing. for publishing my second poetry book. It means a lot to me to be published not just once but twice in this lifetime. Also I would like to tell you how I got my inspiration from my first poem. Our English teacher gave us an assignment when I was in the fifth grade to write a poem. I asked her directly, "What is a poem?" She basically said to write about things that are important to you from your own perspective. Well, I was quite confused about how I was going to write the assignment. At that time, my sister Debbie came by to visit me. She brought me a special gift--perfume. I looked at the bottle which has the name of the perfume: "Timeless". I started thinking about it when I surprised myself with my first poem titled "Endless as Time". Time is endless. Such profound words as well as the poem.

Book Talking with the Animals

Download or read book Talking with the Animals written by Patty Summers and published by Hampton Roads Publishing. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it really possible to talk with animals? Or at least to realize that they are talking to us all the time? Patty Summers listens and understands. An "animal communicator," Summers can converse directly with a variety of animal species, from cats and dogs to rabbits, horses, and iguanas. In this beautiful and moving book, the animals share their wisdom, their perspective on life, and even how they feel about human beings. The animals can teach us many things, and Summers uses her abilities to help humans listen and to aid humans and animals in understanding one another better. She also describes the ways that animals comprehend the world, and explains that they always understand the intent of human communications, if not the words. And she teaches that they share our wants and needs, as they desire the same things that humans do: love, compassion, kindness, and respect; and they do not want to be thought of as pets or as beings to be exploited. Summers shares numerous encounters with animals, and each story has a valuable lesson - each is a gift of spirit from the animals. We have so much to learn from our animal companions, domestic and otherwise. Talking with the Animals provides a rare glimpse inside the minds of the creatures with whom we share our planet.

Most enjoyable heartwarming read by an author who is totally chilled and at home with her dogs and nature ........ Katie's personality shines through, which has helped me to try to "chill a little more" over my two dogs, rescued from the vile puppy farm trade.
