Book Et si on partageait la culture

Download or read book Et si on partageait la culture written by Serge Saada and published by EDITIONS DE L'ATTRIBUT. This book was released on 2011-07-10 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Re Situating Public Theatre in Contemporary France

Download or read book Re Situating Public Theatre in Contemporary France written by Ifigenia Gonis and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-10 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the dynamics of the relational and spatial politics of contemporary French theatrical production, with a focus on four theatres in the Greater Paris region. It situates these dynamics within the intersection of the histories of the public theatre and theatre decentralization in France, and the dialogues between live performances and the larger frameworks of artistic direction and programming as well as various imaginations of the “public”. Understanding these phenomena, as well as the politics that underscore them, is key to understanding not only the present status of the public theatre in France, but also how theatre as a publicly funded institution interacts with the notion of the plurality, rather than the homogeneity, of its publics.

Book The Routledge Dictionary of Performance and Contemporary Theatre

Download or read book The Routledge Dictionary of Performance and Contemporary Theatre written by Patrice Pavis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-28 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Dictionary of Contemporary Theatre and Performance provides the first authoritative alphabetical guide to the theatre and performance of the last 30 years. Conceived and written by one of the foremost scholars and critics of theatre in the world, it literally takes us from Activism to Zapping, analysing everything along the way from Body Art and the Flashmob to Multimedia and the Postdramatic. What we think of as 'performance' and 'drama' has undergone a transformation in recent decades. Similarly how these terms are defined, used and critiqued has also changed, thanks to interventions from a panoply of theorists from Derrida to Ranciere. Patrice Pavis's Dictionary provides an indispensible roadmap for this complex and fascinating terrain; a volume no theatre bookshelf can afford to be without.

Book Reordering of Culture

Download or read book Reordering of Culture written by Alvina Ruprecht and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1995-11-15 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political, economic and social barriers among Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada are giving way to global forces and the "global dreams" they inspire. This collection of original articles and essays examines popular culture, literature, theatre, belief systems, indigenous practices and questions of identity, exile and alienation. The interconnectedness and distinction of cultural production throughout the Americas, "transplanted" interests, the mediation of African and European influences, and the expression of shifting identities, all reflect the development of a new American neighbourhood.

Book The Transformation of Political Culture 1789 1848

Download or read book The Transformation of Political Culture 1789 1848 written by F. Furet and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-11-24 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third volume in a much praised series on The French Revolution and the Creation of Modern Political Culture examines the way in which the Revolution has been portrayed in European thought and its impact upon the development of political philosophy in the nineteenth century. Opening with the influence of Burke and other contemporaries of the Revolution and the ensuing debate over the question "Why the Terror?", this volume explores such diverse themes as the legacy of the Revolution on the political and social evolution of Germany, England, Italy and Russia; the crisis it brought about in the Catholic Church; and the difficulties encountered in determining the end of the Revolution. By showing that the upheaval in European politics and philosophy caused by the French Revolution continued to shape nations, peoples and thought, the texts brought together in this volume permit a better understanding of the event's extraordinary complexity.

Book Culture and Society in Medieval Occitania

Download or read book Culture and Society in Medieval Occitania written by Linda Paterson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medieval Occitania, a geographical and linguistic area often referred to as 'the South of France', 'the South', 'the Midi', or more loosely 'Provence', was politically diverse but culturally coherent. It was here that the troubadours created Courtly Love and a new poetic language, which together were to affect the whole course of European literature and sensibilities. The essays made readily accessible in this collection reflect the author's many-sided interests in the troubadours and the society from which they sprang: the historical and cultural place of the women forming the ostensible objects of their desire, veneration, or anxieties; the extent to which French notions of chivalry penetrated the South; the nature and meaning of various elements of court culture; the precocious development of medical science in this region; its complex responses to the Crusades; and the question of Occitan identity. Mostly complementing her major publications (The World of the Troubadours, collaborative editions of the songs of the troubadour Marcabru, of the epic fragment the Canso d'Antioca, and of the medieval Occitan tensos and partimens), they provide either more detailed material than found its way into those works, or developments from them. 'Occitan literature and the Holy Land' anticipates a new project on responses to the Crusades in Occitan and Old French lyrics.

Book French Cartoon Art in the 1960s and 1970s

Download or read book French Cartoon Art in the 1960s and 1970s written by Wendy Michallat and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pilote’s unique position in a new and fast developing youth press market The French comic magazine Pilote hebdomadaire arrived in a weakening comics market in 1959 largely dominated by syndicated translations of American comics and comics inspired by a Catholic ethos. It tailored its content and tone to an older adolescent reader far removed from that of France’s infant comic. Pilote’s profile set it on a turbulent course subject to the vicissitudes and fickleness of fashion which situated it within an emerging teenager press under pressure to renew and innovate to survive. When it made cartoons its defining characteristic in 1963, Pilote articulated its uniqueness by channelling teenager discourse through them whilst also trying to encourage a zest for education in a modernising and economically buoyant France of exciting new opportunities. Pilote’s cartoon art thus became a dynamic repository for the ideas and attitudes of France’s educated youth which evolved into the radical discourses of the lifestyle and political revolutions of the late 1960s and early 1970s. This book tells how Pilote hebdomadaire’s unique positioning in a new and fast developing youth press market for teenagers provided the forum and catalyst for the bande dessinée’s stylistic evolution over the course of the 1960s and 1970s.
