This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Application of Bacterial Pigments as Colorant

Download or read book Application of Bacterial Pigments as Colorant written by Wan Azlina Ahmad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-14 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental concerns regarding continuous use of synthetic dyes saw a revival in the demand for natural dyes as natural dyes exhibit better biodegradability and generally have a higher compatibility with the environment. However, one of the limitations on the use of natural dyes or pigments is the low extraction yield factors (a few grams of pigment per kg of dried raw material). Therefore, the exploitation of other biological sources such as fungi, bacteria and cell cultures offers interesting alternative. Microbial pigments such as from bacterial origins offer the advantage in terms of production compared to pigments extracted from vegetables or animals, due to its simple cell and fast culturing technique. This book offers interesting insight into initial works carried out to demonstrate the potential use of bacterial pigment as colorant for various applications.

Book Asphalt Pavements

Download or read book Asphalt Pavements written by Devendra Damale and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asphalt pavements are easy to maintain, quick to construct, and provide a safe, smooth, quiet ride. Simply put, asphalt pavements provide the greatest level of drivability at the most economical price. Asphalt pavement refers to any paved road surfaced with asphalt. Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) is a combination of approximately 95% stone, sand, or gravel bound together by asphalt cement, a product of crude oil. Asphalt cement is heated aggregate, combined, and mixed with the aggregate at an HMA facility. Asphalt is America's most recycled material. Reclaimed asphalt is not just reusable as a "black rock" the asphalt cement in the reclaimed pavement is reactivated to become an integral part of the new pavement.

Book excerpt: This revised version of HS(G)96 (0 7176 1343 7) continues to publicizes the message that most companies do not realize the extent of their losses due to accidents. It emphasizes that there is no contradiction between profitability and good health and safety mnagement. TUC figures show that unions secured damage awards totalling 304m for workplace injuries and ill health to their members in 1995. The revision is aimed primarily at management and applies to all industries. It repalces 0 7176 1343 7, with the same series number.

Book Soil Mechanics

Download or read book Soil Mechanics written by David Muir Wood and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-09-28 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book teaches the principles of soil mechanics to undergraduates, along with other properties of engineering materials, to which the students are exposed simultaneously. Using the critical state method of soil mechanics to study the mechanical behavior of soils requires the student to consider density alongside effective stresses, permitting the unification of deformation and strength characteristics. This unification aids the understanding of soil mechanics. This book explores a one-dimensional theme for the presentation of many of the key concepts of soil mechanics - density, stress, stiffness, strength, and fluid flow - and includes a chapter on the analysis of one-dimensional consolidation, which fits nicely with the theme of the book. It also presents some theoretical analyses of soil-structure interaction, which can be analyzed using essentially one-dimensional governing equations. Examples are given at the end of most chapters, and suggestions for laboratory exercises or demonstrations are given.
