Book Overcoming Autism

Download or read book Overcoming Autism written by Lynn Kern Koegel, Ph.D. and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2014-03-25 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have been huge advances in our ability to diagnose autism and in the development of effective interventions that can change children’s lives. In this extraordinary book, Lynn Kern Koegel, a leading clinician, researcher, and cofounder of the renowned Autism Research Center at the University of California at Santa Barbara, combines her cutting-edge expertise with the everyday perspectives of Claire LaZebnik, a writer whose experience with a son with autism provides a rare window into the disorder. Together, they draw on the highly effective “pivotal response” approach developed at the center to provide concrete ways of improving the symptoms of autism and the emotional struggles that surround it, while reminding readers never to lose sight of the humor that lurks in the disability’s quirkiness or the importance of enjoying your child. From the shock of diagnosis to the step-by-step work with verbal communication, social interaction, self-stimulation, meltdowns, fears, and more, the answers are here-in a book that is as warm and nurturing as it is authoritative.

Book Endocrinolog a pedi trica pr ctica en poblaciones con recursos limitados

Download or read book Endocrinolog a pedi trica pr ctica en poblaciones con recursos limitados written by M. Zacharin and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2019-10-31 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Failing Gloriously and Other Essays

Download or read book Failing Gloriously and Other Essays written by Shawn Graham and published by Digital Press at the University of North Dakota, T. This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Failing Gloriously and Other Essays documents Shawn Graham's odyssey through the digital humanities and digital archaeology against the backdrop of the 21st-century university. At turns hilarious, depressing, and inspiring, Graham's book presents a contemporary take on the academic memoir, but rather than celebrating the victories, he reflects on the failures and considers their impact on his intellectual and professional development. These aren't heroic tales of overcoming odds or paeans to failure as evidence for a macho willingness to take risks. They're honest lessons laced with a genuine humility that encourages us to think about making it safer for ourselves and others to fail.A foreword from Eric Kansa and an afterword by Neha Gupta engage the lessons of Failing Gloriously and consider the role of failure in digital archaeology, the humanities, and social sciences.

Book The 18 Immutable Laws of Corporate Reputation

Download or read book The 18 Immutable Laws of Corporate Reputation written by Ronald J. Alsop and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-05-11 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A veteran Wall Street Journal editor and authority on branding, marketing and reputation provides the 18 crucial rules for companies to follow in developing and protecting their reputation, which can be their most valuable asset or their worst nightmare. A must read book for senior executives, consultants, advertising, public relations, and marketing professionals. From Enron and WorldCom to the Catholic Church and Major League Baseball, reputation crises have never been more widespread. Now Ronald J. Alsop, a veteran Wall Street Journal authority on branding and reputation management, explains the dangers—and gives organizations the eighteen crucial laws to follow in developing and protecting their reputations. Consider this example of a simple decision made by a low-ranking employee: When rescue workers at the site of the World Trade Center disaster sought bottled water from a nearby Starbucks outlet, they complained that an employee charged them for it. In a matter of hours, the Internet had picked up the story and Starbucks' carefully cultivated worldwide reputation was quickly besmirched. This is just one instance among many of how the business world, ever more global and competitive, has become increasingly difficult to navigate. Studies have demonstrated the powerful impact of reputation on profits and stock prices, and yet less than half of all companies have a formal system for measuring reputation. Clearly, companies in every industry—from Dow Chemical to Disney to DaimlerChrystler—have much more to learn. It is still the rare company that realizes the full value of its reputation: how corporate reputation can enhance business in good times, become a protective halo in turbulent times, and be destroyed in an instant by people at the lowest or highest levels of the corporate ladder. Mr. Alsop provides eighteen thoroughly documented lessons based on years of experience covering every aspect of corporate reputation, with a clear distillation of the complex principles at the heart of a reputation. He explains: • How to protect your reputation when the inevitable crisis hits • How to cope with the many hazards in cyberspace • How to create a reputation for vision and industry leadership • How to establish a culture of ethical behavior • How to measure and monitor your ever-changing public image • How to make employees your reputation champions • How to decide when it's time to change your name The result is a book that is important not only for business executives, consultants, and advertising, public relations, and marketing professionals but also for anyone eager to learn more about the companies they work for, buy from, and invest in.

Book Energy Harvesting

    Book Details:
  • Author : Alireza Khaligh
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2017-12-19
  • ISBN : 1351834029
  • Pages : 529 pages

Download or read book Energy Harvesting written by Alireza Khaligh and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Also called energy scavenging, energy harvesting captures, stores, and uses "clean" energy sources by employing interfaces, storage devices, and other units. Unlike conventional electric power generation systems, renewable energy harvesting does not use fossil fuels and the generation units can be decentralized, thereby significantly reducing transmission and distribution losses. But advanced technical methods must be developed to increase the efficiency of devices in harvesting energy from environmentally friendly, "green" resources and converting them into electrical energy. Recognizing this need, Energy Harvesting: Solar, Wind, and Ocean Energy Conversion Systems describes various energy harvesting technologies, different topologies, and many types of power electronic interfaces for stand-alone utilization or grid connection of energy harvesting applications. Along with providing all the necessary concepts and theoretical background, the authors develop simulation models throughout the text to build a practical understanding of system analysis and modeling. With a focus on solar energy, the first chapter discusses the I−V characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) systems, PV models and equivalent circuits, sun tracking systems, maximum power point tracking systems, shading effects, and power electronic interfaces for grid-connected and stand-alone PV systems. It also presents sizing criteria for applications and modern solar energy applications, including residential, vehicular, naval, and space applications. The next chapter reviews different types of wind turbines and electrical machines as well as various power electronic interfaces. After explaining the energy generation technologies, optimal operation principles, and possible utilization techniques of ocean tidal energy harvesting, the book explores near- and offshore approaches for harvesting the kinetic and potential energy of ocean waves. It also describes the required absorber, turbine, and generator types, along with the power electronic interfaces for grid connection and commercialized ocean wave energy conversion applications. The final chapter deals with closed, open, and hybrid-cycle ocean thermal energy conversion systems.

Book The Concept of Affectivity in Early Modern Philosophy

Download or read book The Concept of Affectivity in Early Modern Philosophy written by Ádám Smrcz and published by Gyöngyösi Megyer. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no need to argue for the relevance of affectivity in early modern philosophy. When doing research and conceptualizing affectivity in this period, we hope to attain a basicinterpretive framework for philosophy in general, one that is independent of and cutting across such unfruitful divisions as the time-honored interpretive distinction between “rationalists” and “empiricists”, which we consider untenable when applied to 17th-century thinkers. Our volume consists of papers based on the contributions to the First Budapest Seminar in Early Modern Philosophy, held on 14–15 October 2016 at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. When composing this volume, our aim was not to present a systematic survey of affectivity in early modern philosophy. Rather, our more modest goal was to foster collaboration among researchers working in different countries and different traditions. Many of the papers published here are already in implicit or explicit dialogue with others. We hope that they will generate more of an exchange of ideas in the broader field of early modern scholarship.

Book An Erromangan Sye Grammar

Download or read book An Erromangan Sye Grammar written by Terry Crowley and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 1998-03-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The languages of southern Vanuatu are structurally different from other Oceanic languages. Sye has an unusually complex morphological system and it offers a number of typological surprises for Oceanic linguists. It differs syntactically from many other Oceanic languages of Melanesia in that it does not have widespread verb serialization, though it, along with the other languages of southern Vanuatu, has developed what can be referred to as a system of "echo verbs." This volume describes Sye's phonology and morphosyntax in terms that are intended to be accessible to followers of a variety of linguistic theories, with considerable exemplification of points to allow linguists to reanalyze data according to their own theoretical interests.
