Download or read book Estimation of the Static Aerodynamic Characteristics of Ordnance Projectiles at Supersonic Speeds written by Robert L. McCoy and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simplified flow field solution has been programmed in an attempt to improve the accuracy of estimates of the static aerodynamic characteristics of ordnance projectiles. It provides estimates of drag, normal force, static moment, and roll damping moment for pointed bodies of revolution at supersonic speed. The program combines the Van Dyke hybrid theory for potential flow, the Van Driest compressible turbulent boundary layer theory, and the Chapman-Sternberg model for supersonic base pressure. Good agreement is demonstrated between the theoretical and experimental data.

Download or read book Design for Control of Projectile Flight Characteristics written by United States. Army Materiel Command and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook presents a general survey of the principal factors affecting the flight of projectiles, and describes the methods commonly used for predicting and influencing the flight performance. The coefficients which characterize the aerodynamic forces and moments of a moving body are identified, methods for determining the coefficients applicable to a projectile having a given shape and center of gravity location are described, and the coefficients of a number of projectiles and projectile shapes are given. The use of aerodynamic coefficients in predicting stability, range and accuracy is described. The effects of variations in projectile shape and center of gravity location on range, accuracy and lethality are discussed. Some material on prototype testing and the effects of round-to-round variations in production lots is presented.

This book was released on 1971 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents the results of ballistics range and wind-tunnel measurements of the static force and moment and the pitch-damping, roll-damping and Magnus moments for a General Purpose 20-Millimeter Projectile. Data are presented for a Smooth and Basic configuration. These aerodynamic data are used in a special digital computer program to rapidly assess the stability of the projectiles over various mission profiles. The normal-force and pitching-moment derivatives are evaluated, theoretically, by Wood's method and compared with the measurements.

This book was released on 1970 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A research configuration was formed by attaching wraparound fins in a cruciform arrangement to a 10-caliber Army-Navy spinner projectile. This configuration was tested in a supersonic tunnel to get the Magnus force and moment, as well as the normal force and pitching moment. Model spin rate was generated by means of fin cant.

Download or read book Approximate Methods for Weapon Aerodynamics written by Frankie Gale Moore and published by AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics). This book was released on 2000 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moore brings 30 years of experience in weapons development to help bridge the gap between the academic textbook and practical application. The book reviews all approaches to calculate aerodynamics, allowing engineers to see the pros and cons of each approach, setting the stage for a semiempirical approach. It contains many approximate aerodynamic methods, bringing together in a single text both linearized and nonlinear aerodynamic methods. Practicing engineers will value the books emphasis on understanding the physics involved, understanding the assumptions made to get to the approximate approaches, and showing final equations used in the solution process.
Download or read book Tactical Missile Design written by Eugene L. Fleeman and published by AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics). This book was released on 2001 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first textbook offered for tactical missile design. It is oriented toward the needs of aerospace engineering students, missile engineers, and missile program managers. It is intended to provide a basis for including tactical missile design as part of the aerospace engineering curriculum, providing new graduates with the knowledge they will need in their careers. The author's decades of experience in the development of tactical missiles and their technologies is presented in an integrated handbook method for missile design. It uses simple closed-form analytical expressions that are physics-based to provide insight into the primary driving parameters. The text also provides example calculations of rocket-powered and ramjet-powered baseline missiles, typical values of missile parameters, examples of the characteristics of current operational missiles, discussion of the enabling subsystems and technologies of tactical missiles, and the current/projected state of the art of tactical missiles. Included with the text is a CD-ROM containing electronic versions of the figures; 15 videos showing examples of loading missiles, pilot actions, flight trajectories, countermeasures, etc.; and configuration sizing methods.
