Book Processing Analysis and General Evaluation of Well driller Logs for Estimating Hydrogeologic Parameters of the Glacial Sediments in a Ground water Flow Model of the Lake Michigan Basin

Download or read book Processing Analysis and General Evaluation of Well driller Logs for Estimating Hydrogeologic Parameters of the Glacial Sediments in a Ground water Flow Model of the Lake Michigan Basin written by Leslie D. Arihood and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2005, the U.S. Geological Survey began a pilot study for the National Water Availability and Use Program to assess the availability of water and water use in the Great Lakes Basin. Part of the study involves constructing a ground-water flow model for the Lake Michigan part of the Basin. Most ground-water flow occurs in the glacial sediments above the bedrock formations; therefore, adequate representation by the model of the horizontal and vertical hydraulic conductivity of the glacial sediments is important to the accuracy of model simulations. This work processed and analyzed well records to provide the hydrogeologic parameters of horizontal and vertical hydraulic conductivity and ground-water levels for the model layers used to simulated ground-water flow in the glacial sediments. The methods used to convert (1) lithology descriptions into assumed values of horizontal and vertical hydraulic conductivity for entire model layers, (2) aquifer-test data into point values of horizontal hydraulic conductivity, and (3) static water levels into water-level calibration data are presented.
