Book Estimation of Phenotypic and Genetic Relationships Among Hip Height and Productive and Reproductive Performance in Brahman Cattle

Download or read book Estimation of Phenotypic and Genetic Relationships Among Hip Height and Productive and Reproductive Performance in Brahman Cattle written by Carlos A. Vargas L. and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT (cont.): Females of SFS and MFS surpassed LFS by demonstrating earlier calving dates, and greater calving, calf survival and weaning rates. There is a strong genetic relationship between WHH and WWT that has an impact on HH18. Thus, if the breeding objective is to manipulate growth to 18 mo of age, implementation of multiple trait breeding programs considering WHH and WWT will aid in the prediction of hip height at time of selection.

Book Handbook of Fertility

Download or read book Handbook of Fertility written by Ronald Ross Watson and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-04-27 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Fertility: Nutrition, Diet, Lifestyle and Reproductive Health focuses on the ways in which food, dietary supplements, and toxic agents, including alcohol and nicotine affect the reproductive health of both women and men. Researchers in nutrition, diet, epidemiology, and endocrinology will find this comprehensive resource invaluable in their long-term goal of understanding and improving reproductive health. This book brings together a broad range of experts researching the different aspects of foods and dietary supplements that promote or detract from reproductive health. Section One contains several overview chapters on fertility, how it is assessed, and how it can be affected by different metabolic states, nutritional habits, dietary supplements, the action of antioxidants, and lifestyle choices. Sections Two and Three consider how male and female fertility are affected by obesity, metabolic syndrome, hormonal imbalance, and even bariatric surgery. Section Four explores the ways diet, nutrition, and lifestyle support or retard the success of in vitro fertilization, while Section Five explores how alcohol and other drugs of abuse lower fertility in both women and men. Explores how alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs of abuse disrupt and impair reproductive health Reviews studies of common conditions such as obesity and metabolic syndrome and their effect on fertility and reproductive health Investigates the components of foods and dietary supplements, in particular oxidative stress and antioxidants Presents the nutritional effects of foods and dietary supplements and their benefits and risks relating to reproductive health

Book Genetic and Phenotypic Parameters of Profit Functions Reproductive Efficiencies in Crossbred Cattle

Download or read book Genetic and Phenotypic Parameters of Profit Functions Reproductive Efficiencies in Crossbred Cattle written by C. O. Reddy and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigations were carried out to study the relationship of profit function, life production and herd life with reproductive variables and to study the relationship between first lactation and lifetime performance and to estimate the economic returns on the basis of first lactation performance. The least square analysis showed that the differences between the two genetic groups (higher and lower crosses) were significant for all the production and profit traits. Similarly the genetic group did not show significant differences in reproductive raits viz., number of inseminations per conception (1.69 and 1.74), firsst calving interval (423 and 426 days), days open percent (36.66 and 37.13) and weight at first calving (306 and 384 kg). Based on profit per day of lif an open period of 135 days in higher crosses and 134 days in lower crosses were found to be satisfactory. The days dry were optimised at 34.22 percent 26.98 percent, 20.22 percent, 24.84 percent and 24.11 percent, for hrd life, lifetime milk yield, milk yield per day of herd life, lifetime profit and profit per day of herd life in higher crosse, respectively. It was also observed that, one standard deviation decrease in mean days dry percent could maximise all the lifetime production traits in lower crosses. Long herd life was found to be necessary for maximum profit and profit per day of herd life. The age at first calving accounted for little in all the lifetime traits in both higher and lower crosses (3.11 to 5.54 percent and 0.07 to 2.11 percent). Similar observations were made with the weight at first calving. Herd life increased gradually upto first lactation (2500 kg) in lower crosses and 3000 kg in higher crosses. Increase in first lactation increased the lifetime traits. The genetic correlations between first lactation traits and lifetime traits were higher in higher crosses. Th phenotypic corrlations among lifetime traits were positive and significant except the correlations of days dry percent with other lifetime traits.
