Book Estimation and Analysis of Nonlinear Stochastic Systems

Download or read book Estimation and Analysis of Nonlinear Stochastic Systems written by Steven Irl Marcus and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The algebraic and geometric structure of certain classes of nonlinear stochastic systems is exploited in order to obtain useful stability and estimation results. First, the class of bilinear stochastic systems (or linear systems with multiplicative noise) is discussed. The stochastic stability of bilinear systems driven by colored noise is considered; in the case that the system evolves on a solvable Lie group, necessary and sufficient conditions for stochastic stability are derived. Approximate methods for obtaining sufficient conditions for the stochastic stability of bilinear systems evolving on general Lie groups are also discussed. The study of estimation problems involving bilinear systems is motivated by several practical applications involving rotational processes in three dimensions. Two classes of estimation problems are considered. First it is proved that, for systems described by certain types of Volterra series expansions or by certain bilinear equations evolving on nilpotent or solvable Lie groups, the optimal conditional mean estimator consists of a finite dimensional nonlinear set of equations. Finally, the theory of harmonic analysis is used to derive suboptimal estimators for bilinear systems driven by white noise which evolve on compact Lie groups or homogeneous spaces.

Book Nonlinear Stochastic Systems with Incomplete Information

Download or read book Nonlinear Stochastic Systems with Incomplete Information written by Bo Shen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-06 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Stochastic Processes addresses the frequently-encountered problem of incomplete information. The causes of this problem considered here include: missing measurements; sensor delays and saturation; quantization effects; and signal sampling. Divided into three parts, the text begins with a focus on H∞ filtering and control problems associated with general classes of nonlinear stochastic discrete-time systems. Filtering problems are considered in the second part, and in the third the theory and techniques previously developed are applied to the solution of issues arising in complex networks with the design of sampled-data-based controllers and filters. Among its highlights, the text provides: • a unified framework for filtering and control problems in complex communication networks with limited bandwidth; • new concepts such as random sensor and signal saturations for more realistic modeling; and • demonstration of the use of techniques such as the Hamilton–Jacobi–Isaacs, difference linear matrix, and parameter-dependent matrix inequalities and sums of squares to handle the computational challenges inherent in these systems. The collection of recent research results presented in Nonlinear Stochastic Processes will be of interest to academic researchers in control and signal processing. Graduate students working with communication networks with lossy information and control of stochastic systems will also benefit from reading the book.

Book Nonlinear Stochastic Systems with Network Induced Phenomena

Download or read book Nonlinear Stochastic Systems with Network Induced Phenomena written by Jun Hu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-21 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph introduces methods for handling filtering and control problems in nonlinear stochastic systems arising from network-induced phenomena consequent on limited communication capacity. Such phenomena include communication delay, packet dropout, signal quantization or saturation, randomly occurring nonlinearities and randomly occurring uncertainties. The text is self-contained, beginning with an introduction to nonlinear stochastic systems, network-induced phenomena and filtering and control, moving through a collection of the latest research results which focuses on the three aspects of: · the state-of-the-art of nonlinear filtering and control; · recent advances in recursive filtering and sliding mode control; and · their potential for application in networked control systems, and concluding with some ideas for future research work. New concepts such as the randomly occurring uncertainty and the probability-constrained performance index are proposed to make the network models as realistic as possible. The power of combinations of such recent tools as the completing-the-square and sums-of-squares techniques, Hamilton‒Jacobi‒Isaacs matrix inequalities, difference linear matrix inequalities and parameter-dependent matrix inequalities is exploited in treating the mathematical and computational challenges arising from nonlinearity and stochasticity. Nonlinear Stochastic Systems with Network-Induced Phenomena establishes a unified framework of control and filtering which will be of value to academic researchers in bringing structure to problems associated with an important class of networked system and offering new means of solving them. The significance of the new concepts, models and methods presented for practical control engineering and signal processing will also make it a valuable reference for engineers dealing with nonlinear control and filtering problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently a great deal of attention has gone into the study of classes of deterministic nonlinear systems described either by bilinear differential state equations or Volterra series input-output relations. In addition, a number of results have been obtained for the stochastic analogs of these systems. In this note the authors describe a class of systems for which they can construct optimal finite-dimensional nonlinear filters. A complete study of this problem is given in another paper.

Book excerpt: Since its origins in the 1940s, the subject of decision making under uncertainty has grown into a diversified area with application in several branches of engineering and in those areas of the social sciences concerned with policy analysis and prescription. These approaches required a computing capacity too expensive for the time, until the ability to collect and process huge quantities of data engendered an explosion of work in the area. This book provides succinct and rigorous treatment of the foundations of stochastic control; a unified approach to filtering, estimation, prediction, and stochastic and adaptive control; and the conceptual framework necessary to understand current trends in stochastic control, data mining, machine learning, and robotics.?

Book Stochastic H2 H Control A Nash Game Approach

Download or read book Stochastic H2 H Control A Nash Game Approach written by Weihai Zhang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-08-07 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The H∞ control has been one of the important robust control approaches since the 1980s. This book extends the area to nonlinear stochastic H2/H∞ control, and studies more complex and practically useful mixed H2/H∞ controller synthesis rather than the pure H∞ control. Different from the commonly used convex optimization method, this book applies the Nash game approach to give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of the mixed H2/H∞ control. Researchers will benefit from our detailed exposition of the stochastic mixed H2/H∞ control theory, while practitioners can apply our efficient algorithms to address their practical problems.

Book Parallel Estimation and Control for Nonlinear Air Force Systems

Download or read book Parallel Estimation and Control for Nonlinear Air Force Systems written by Edison Tse and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report represents the results of a one-year study supported by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research on the development of parallel algorithms for nonlinear estimation problems and dual control methods for stochastic nonlinear control systems. The report is divided into two parts. Part 1 describes parallel filtering algorithms for nonlinear systems with unknown parameters and/or state dependent process and observation noises. It also contains an example study on the relative tradeoff between complexity and system performance. The problem of static state estimation when the state dimension is very large is also considered in part 1. Part 2 is concerned with dual control theory. A dual control method for nonlinear stochastic systems with free-end time is developed and applied to an example problem. Studies on the intrinsic characteristics of dual control are carried out, classes of problems are specified where dual control is not required for optimum performance. These concepts are then applied to a class of resource allocation problems. (Modified author abstract).
