Book Estimating the Value of Truck Travel Time Reliability

Download or read book Estimating the Value of Truck Travel Time Reliability written by Sebastian E. Guerrero and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Travel time reliability is frequently cited as an important metric for the trucking community and users of truck freight services. While the travel time reliability for trucking is commonly measured, truck reliability is seldom considered in the benefit-cost evaluation of mobility projects, which under represents the benefits accrued to freight users of the highway system. For NCHRP Project 07-24, WSP was asked to develop an improved framework for the valuation of truck freight reliability. The framework included the methodology, modeling assumptions, analytical techniques, and tools developed in NCHRP Report 824 to assist transportation professionals and decision-makers in the evaluation of proposed roadway infrastructure and operations investments.

Book excerpt: This report from the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2), which is administered by the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies, sets out requirements for travel time reliability within a performance-based planning process. The research includes an effort to determine the economic value of improvements in travel time reliability by applying options theory from the financial sector. The report includes two succinct tables that describe requirements for person and freight trips for reliable transport, as well as a forecast of the year 2030 under alternative assumptions that may influence travel time reliability.

Book Framework and Tools for Estimating Benefits of Specific Freight Network Investments

Download or read book Framework and Tools for Estimating Benefits of Specific Freight Network Investments written by and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2011 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report provides a comprehensive analytical framework and related tools that private-sector freight transportation modes and public-sector transportation interests can use to estimate private and public benefits to evaluate potential freight infrastructure investments. Using interviews with transportation planners and an extensive review of prior research and a review of current methods used to assess freight benefits or prioritize improvement projects, the research developed a freight evaluation framework with three main functions: (1) to enhance public planning and decision-making processes regarding freight; (2) to supplement benefit/cost assessment with distributional impact measures; and (3) to advance public-private cooperation. The framework is capable of handling projects that span all of the different modes and able to assess benefits from a variety of project types, including those that improve freight operations, as well as generate more capacity through infrastructure expansion. The research, by developing a practical set of formats for information collection, will support public-private agency discussions by helping all parties understand the wide range of perspectives and interests in potential freight investments."--Pub. desc.

This book was released on with total page 936 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report from the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2), which is administered by the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies, describes how to develop and use a Travel Time Reliability Monitoring System (TTRMS). It explains why such a system is useful, how it helps agencies do a better job of managing network performance, and what a traffic management center (TMC) team needs to do to put a TTRMS in place.

Book Separation of Vehicles

Download or read book Separation of Vehicles written by Cambridge Systematics and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2010 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NCHRP Report 649/NCFRP Report 3: Separation of Vehicles - CMV-Only Lanes presents an extensive compendium of information about CMV-only lanes and examines major issues and concepts that should be understood in developing new applications of CMV-only lane concepts as a potential method for both easing congestion and reducing the number of traffic accidents on highways. Appendices to this report, including an annotated literature review, performance evaluation criteria, benefits monetization factors and unit costs, and net present value calculations for benefit-cost analysis, are available on the TRB website. This report and the supplemental information can be used by public agencies that may be considering CMV-only lane concepts in corridor studies or other planning applications. The report provides data such agencies can use to support their own evaluations of CMV-only lane projects.

Book Urban Mobility Report 2004

Download or read book Urban Mobility Report 2004 written by David Schrank and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-10 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Congestion continues to grow in America¿s urban areas. This report presents details on the 2004 trends, findings and what can be done to address the growing transportation problems. Trend data from 1982 to 2002 for 85 urban areas provides both a local view and a national perspective on the growth and extent of traffic congestion. The 2004 Report provides clear evidence that the time for improvements has arrived. Communicating the congestion levels and the need for improvements is a goal of this report. The decisions about which, and how much, improvement to fund will be made at the local level according to a variety of goals, but there are some broad conclusions that can be drawn from this database. Book Using Travel Time Measures to Estimate Mobility and Reliability in Urban Areas

Download or read book Using Travel Time Measures to Estimate Mobility and Reliability in Urban Areas written by Timothy J. Lomax and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are several keys to developing and applying mobility measures that are technically useful and generally understandable. Travel time measures are relatively easy to comprehend, but they have not always been used because of data concerns, mandated reporting practices and other issues. Travel time and speed measures can serve many different uses, communicate to many different audiences and enhance the ability of project analysis techniques to determine the most appropriate set of policies, programs and projects for a situation. The overriding conclusion from any investigation of mobility and reliability measures is that there is a range of uses and audiences. No single measure will satisfy all the needs, and no single measure can identify all aspects of mobility or reliability - there is no "silver bullet" measure. The problems are complex and in many cases require more than one measure, more than a single data source and more than one analysis procedure. Mobility and reliability performance measures, when combined in a process to uncover the goals and objectives the public has for transportation systems, can provide a framework to analyze how well the land use and transportation systems serve the needs of travelers and businesses
