Book Using an Atmometer for Irrigation Scheduling in Eastern Washington

Download or read book Using an Atmometer for Irrigation Scheduling in Eastern Washington written by R. Troy Peters and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Good irrigation water management improves grower profitability and also improves environmental water quality. Most irrigation scheduling techniques require an estimate of daily crop water use (evapotranspiration). Evapotranspiration (ET) is usually estimated by calculating the ET of a reference crop, which is usually grass or alfalfa, and then multiplying that by a crop coefficient that is specific to a particular crop and that crop's growth stage. Although reference crop evapotranspiration can usually be calculated from weather data measured by automated agricultural weather stations, these stations are expensive and may be located in areas that do not represent the local weather conditions of a particular field. The atmometer (sometimes called an ET-gauge) is a relatively simple and inexpensive alternative to a full weather station and is used to estimate reference crop evapotranspiration for irrigation scheduling.

Book Estimation of Cucumber Evapotranspiration Inside the Greenhouse

Download or read book Estimation of Cucumber Evapotranspiration Inside the Greenhouse written by Bassam Miribi and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Irrigation scheduling inside the greenhouse is based either on estimating evapotranspiration from outside and adjusting it to fit the inside conditions or applying a fixed amount of water. In the present study evaporation from class A pan (EPan) and evaporation from plastic washtubs (ETub) placed next to class A pan and evaporation from plastic washtub located inside the greenhouse (GH ETub) were used to quantify the effects of meteorological parameters on actual crop evapotranspiration (ETact). Cumulative evaporation ETub of different sizes and colors was correlated to EPan. The ETub increased when the water surface area decreased. The color and the material of the tub had no significant effect on ETub. The ETub was approximately 95% of the EPan, while the GH ETub was 50%. The correlation factors between the ETub and EPan, the GH ETub and EPan, and between ETact and GH ETub were 0.999, 0.998 and 0.987, respectively. The crop factor Kc increased lineary during the growing season till the end of the first month of fruiting, reaching a maximum of 1.07. After that, it decreased and leveled off at 1.01. Washtubs can be used in irrigation scheduling inside and outside the greenhouse by relating the depth of the allowable soil moisture depletion to either GH ETub or Span.

Book Evapotranspiration

Download or read book Evapotranspiration written by Giacomo Gerosa and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-11-09 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents an overview of the direct measurement techniques of evapotranspiration with related applications to the water use optimization in the agricultural practice and to the ecosystems study. Different measuring techniques at leaf level (porometry), plant-level (sap-flow, lysimetry) and agro-ecosystem level (Surface Renewal, Eddy Covariance, Multi layer BREB), are presented with detailed explanations and examples. For the optimization of the water use in agriculture, detailed measurements on transpiration demands of crops and different cultivars, as well as results of different irrigation schemes and techniques (i.e. subsurface drip) in semi-arid areas for open-field, greenhouse and potted grown plants are presented. Aspects on ET of crops in saline environments, effects of ET on groundwater quality in xeric environments as well as the application of ET to climatic classification are also depicted. The book provides an excellent overview for both, researchers and student,s who intend to address these issues.
