Book Timber Trends in Western Oregon and Western Washington Classic Reprint

Download or read book Timber Trends in Western Oregon and Western Washington Classic Reprint written by Division of Forest Economics Research and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Timber Trends in Western Oregon and Western Washington The entire staff of the Division of Forest Economics Research participated in the very considerable tasks of formulating a basis for analyzing the supply situ ation, contacting public and private landowners and managers, and projecting the complex forest resource into the future. The authors of the study were able to draw freely from the most recent Forest Survey inventory information - detailed information which had not previously been analyzed. The Forest Service has made numerous appraisals of the national timber supply situation in the past, but there have been relatively few analyses of re gional situations. This one is unique in that it analyzes in depth the economic factors expected to control or influence timber supply in various classes of owner ship. This has been done by building an economic model for explaining and estimating timber output in the region. The model used in this study is concerned primarily with the long-range level of output that might be expected under the long-term influence of various economic forces. Short-run considerations such as impacts on prices and profits of alter native cutting policies have not been included in this analysis. Also, the study assumes economic objectives for Federal and other public forest ownerships com parable to those of private owners. In practice, it may be desirable to temper local objectives by broader considerations such as the impacts of Federal cutting and management policies on the total level of employment and on the stability of economic activity in the region. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Timber Harvesting in the Southern United States: A Sociological Analysis and Research Proposal The pivotal position of harvesting in the timber management-marketing-manufacturing process is not matched by the effort devoted to timber harvesting research and development. A group of timber industry consultants recently recommended a 10-year, research program for the southern harvesting industry alone. (silversides et al., One high priority problem area identified by this group was the sociological aspects of harvesting labor. In an effort to more sharply define social science research needs and recommend a research program, an analysis of the southern timber harvesting industry was performed from a sociological perspective. The analysis had four objectives. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
