Book Crops Residue Management

Download or read book Crops Residue Management written by J. L. Hatfield and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent changes in the Conservation Compliance Plans for farmers shows the need for improved information on the effective management of crop residues. Residue management requires an understanding of the crop, soil, and climate in which the farming system is located. In this volume, the strategies for effective residue management are described for each region of the country to provide a comparison of the regional differences. The chapters not only describe the knowledge in each region but also suggest some of the needed areas of research required to develop an improved understanding of the processes involved in effective residue management.

Book Crop Residue Management Systems

Download or read book Crop Residue Management Systems written by W. R. Oschwald and published by ACSESS. This book was released on 2020-01-22 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The management of croplands has a large impact on the quantity and quality of food and fiber production and on air and water quality, all of which influence the quality of our environment. Management of the nonharvested plant tissues, such as leaves, stems, branches, and roots that constitute the residues from the production of food and fiber, is one of the farm practices that affects crop production via nutrient availability and cycling. Management of these residues also provides opportunities for control of dust in the air and sediments and nutrients in waters through control of soil erosion caused by wind and water. Thus, the task ahead for the management of croplands for improvements in the overall well-being of people involves the application of known effective crop residue management systems to maintain crop production and to reduce wind and water erosion. There is need, as well, for development of more effective management systems through laboratory and field research.

Book Crop Residue Management to Reduce Erosion and Improve Soil Quality

This book was released on 2018-09-09 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Crop Residue Management to Reduce Erosion and Improve Soil Quality: Northern Great Plains Soil erosion by wind or water degrades our soils. Besides outrightly removing material from the fertile topsoil, large windstorms or rainstorms selectively remove material high in organic matter and nutrients. The result is surface soil depleted of plant-available nutrients, high in density, and low in porosity and capacity for water intake. Download or read book Crop Residue Management to Reduce Erosion and Improve Soil Quality written by W. C. Moldenhauer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Crop Residue Management to Reduce Erosion and Improve Soil Quality: North Central Leaving crop residue on the soil surface has a number of clear advantages over tillage that leaves the soil surface bare. Most notable is the greatly reduced erosion from wind and water. Other advantages include increased yields from conserved water, lower soil temperatures, increased soil organic matter levels, and in many cases reduced require ments of time, labor, and fuel. Mandated conservation compliance by 1995 is an additional incentive for farmers to adopt crop residue management. Book The Potential of U S Forest Soils to Sequester Carbon and Mitigate the Greenhouse Effect

This book was released on 2002-09-25 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much attention has been given to above ground biomass and its potential as a carbon sink, but in a mature forest ecosystem 40 to 60 percent of the stored carbon is below ground. As increasing numbers of forests are managed in a wide diversity of climates and soils, the importance of forest soils as a potential carbon sink grows. The Potenti
