Download or read book The Segmental Motor System written by Marc D. Binder and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1990 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a broad range of knowledge about the organization of the segmental motor apparatus of mammals. Over the past 30 years, the mammalian segmental motor system has served as a template for research on neural trophism, synaptic function and connectivity, neuronal recognition, and neuronal modeling, and has provided the definitive neural aggregation, the motoneuron pool. In addition, a number of important experimental and analytical techniques, including intracellular recording, signal averaging, linear systems analysis, conditioning-testing spatial facilitation and occlusion, and excitability testing, have emerged from this body of research to become important components of the experimental armamentarium of biologists working throughout the nervous system. The book acknowledges the seminal contributions of Professor Elwood Henneman to this field and to neuroscience in general, and provides a systematic discussion of some of the fundamental contemporary issues in motor control. It addresses such questions as the intrinsic properties of motoneurons and muscle fibers; the phenomenon of orderly motor unit recruitment and its underlying mechanisms; the neural-mechanical correlations between motoneurons and the muscle units the innervate; and the analysis of synaptic inputs to motoneuron pools. In focusing on these issues, the volume not only provides comprehensive coverage of the functional organization of the motoneuron pool and its target issue, skeletal muscle, but also illuminates the extensive ramifications that research in this area has had on neurobiology.

Download or read book Muscle Relaxants written by Kazuaki Fukushima and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the Fifth International Neuromuscular Meeting held in Tokyo in 1994, leading experts in the field came together to discuss the physiology and pharmacology of neuromuscular receptor sites and neuromuscular blocking agents (NBAs). The proceedings of the meeting present a review of the history of muscle relaxants and a comprehensive examination of recent research, with a primary focus on clinical considerations. Among the topics covered by specific chapters are aspects of the neuromuscular junction (NMJ), pharmacokinetics, metabolism and metabolites of neuromuscular blocking agents, and drug interaction. Presenting the most up-to-date knowledge of the physiology and pharmacology of the NMJ and NBAs, this volume will be highly valuable to clinicians and researchers in anesthesiology, physiology, and pharmacology.

Download or read book Training in Diagnostic Ultrasound written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 1998 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report defines the essential training and skills necessary for the effective employment of diagnostic ultrasound in different health care settings. It reviews the present situation in ultrasonography and the trends in the utilization of diagnostic ultrasound in clinical practice. The report also examines worldwide practice with respect to ultrasonography training for physicians, sonographers, and other categories of medical professionals, such as midwives, nurses, and assistant physicians. It presents outlines of recommended training curricula for physicians in general, advanced, and specialized ultrasonography and discusses various other factors that must be taken into account in organizing the training process. The report describes the recommended training for allied health professionals specializing in ultrasonography and presents the basic science and instrumentation aspects of the curricula. It then discusses the level of competence that should be reached by those trained in the use of diagnostic ultrasound, as well as the recommended standards for training programs, including the requirements for instructors and training centers. Recommendations for the implementation of training programs are included. An appendix outlines the applications of diagnostic ultrasound. (Contains 36 references.) (MDM).
