Download or read book Essential College Physics Volume 1 Second Edition written by Andrew Rex and published by Cognella Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-14 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essential College Physics Volume I provides students with an approachable and innovative introduction to key concepts in physics. Throughout the text, students enjoy clear and concise explanations, relevant real-world examples, and problems that help them master physics fundamentals. Following the introductory Chapter 1, the remainder of Volume I is devoted to mechanics of particles and systems. It includes separate chapters on gravitation, fluids, and waves, including sound. The text concludes with a three-chapter sequence on thermodynamics. Each chapter features annotated figures and detailed problem-solving strategies to help students learn and retain the material with confidence. The second edition includes a new four-color format, with color coding of pedagogical features to call greater attention to each. Additionally, new applications have been added to make select topics more current and engaging, both throughout the text and, when possible, within problem sets. Essential College Physics Volume I is part of a two-volume set. It can be used independently or in tandem with Volume II. When combined, the two texts cover a full-year course in algebra-based physics, divided either into two semesters or three quarters.

Download or read book Essentials of Physics for College Students written by Daniel Webster Hering and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-27 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Essentials of Physics for College Students: A Textbook for Undergraduates and a Lecture Course and Reference Work for Teachers and Other Students of Physics IN this revised edition, the author has corrected typo graphical errors and made changes which no doubt will enhance the value of the book. The original purpose has been to present the principles of physics in a reasonably complete form, so selected as to round out the information of a well-educated man who is not aiming to qualify as an engineer or technical expert, but who nevertheless desires to be well informed in this branch of science. Especially has the author endeavored to make the sub ject of human as well as of technical interest to the student. It is hoped that this may help to make the book attractive to some who may feel that their knowledge of the subject is be coming impaired, as well as to those who are first acquiring their knowledge of it. In presenting a subject so broad and so varied as physics, no matter what material is selected there will always arise the question whether certain things that are omitted would not better have been included and others that are included might not better have been omitted. No choice can be made that will meet with universal approval. Quite as important, it seems to the author, is it to present any topic in a way that will give the student a proper conception of it and of its relation to the rest of the science. Book Essential College Physics

Download or read book Essential College Physics written by Andrew F. Rex and published by Addison-Wesley. This book was released on 2009-10 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brief Description: The goal of Essential College Physics is to provide a book focused on essential principles--a shorter, more focused book that better addresses the learning needs of today's readers while more effectively guiding them through the mastery of physics. Brevity does not need to come at the expense of reader learning. This book is designed from the ground up to be concise and focused, resulting in a book less intimidating and easier to use, with well-coordinated explanations, art, worked examples, and end-of-chapter problems. It incorporates an overarching connected approach: connecting ideas within and across chapters; connecting physics with the real world; connecting words and math; and connecting with how today's readers learn and how they use their book. In addition to providing a strong foundation that teaches physics principles, the book also focuses on building readers' problem-solving skills. The friendly, integrated approach, combined with the low price, makes Essential College Physics an invaluable book choice. Key Topics: Measurements in Physics, Motion in One Dimension, Motion in Two Dimensions, Force and Newton's Laws of Motion, Work and Energy, Momentum and Collisions, Oscillations, Rotational Motion, Gravitation, Solids and Fluids, Waves and Sound, Temperature, Thermal Expansion, and Ideal Gases, Heat, The Laws of Thermodynamics, Electric Charges, Forces, and Fields, Electric Energy, Potential, and Capacitors, Electric Current, Resistance, and Circuits, Magnetic Fields and Forces, Electromagnetic Induction and AC Circuits, Electromagnetic Waves and Special Relativity, Geometrical Optics, Wave Optics, Early Modern Physics, Atomic Physics, Nuclear Physics, Elementary Particles Market: Intended for those interested in learning the basics of college physics

Book Fundamentals of Quantum Physics

Download or read book Fundamentals of Quantum Physics written by Pedro Pereyra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive course of quantum mechanics for undergraduate and graduate students. After a brief outline of the innovative ideas that lead up to the quantum theory, the book reviews properties of the Schrödinger equation, the quantization phenomena and the physical meaning of wave functions. The book discusses, in a direct and intelligible style, topics of the standard quantum formalism like the dynamical operators and their expected values, the Heisenberg and matrix representation, the approximate methods, the Dirac notation, harmonic oscillator, angular momentum and hydrogen atom, the spin-field and spin-orbit interactions, identical particles and Bose-Einstein condensation etc. Special emphasis is devoted to study the tunneling phenomena, transmission coefficients, phase coherence, energy levels splitting and related phenomena, of interest for quantum devices and heterostructures. The discussion of these problems and the WKB approximation is done using the transfer matrix method, introduced at a tutorial level. This book is a textbook for upper undergraduate physics and electronic engineering students.

Excerpt: ...the brain Psychological r. r to act in response to the nerves. Thus the complete consideration of sound (as also that of light) involves three processes. SOUND DUE TO LONGITUDINAL VIBRATION 171 Experiment No. 51, page 199.--Necessity of medium for conveyance of sound is shown by bell under receiver of air pump. Observe especially that the medium which brings the vibrations to the ear and actuates the organ of hearing is that in which the ear is embedded, as air or water, and not the ether. Sound failed by removal of air from the receiver though ether was still there. A distinction is sometimes made between sound and noise. Where such a distinction is employed, sound results from a series of regular vibrations or a combination of such regular vibrations as have frequencies related to one another in simple ratios; noise results from a jumbling of abrupt single impulses having no definite numerical relation to one another. It may be called sound if the action is sustained only long enough to give to the ear a sense of rhythm. Experiment No. 52, page 199.--Illustrate sound and noise by the graduated blocks of wood. Vibration of an elastic body (or medium) takes place in obedience to a force of restitution that is proportional to displacement; the motion therefore is S.H.M. 124. Sound Due to Longitudinal Vibration.--Whatever the character of the vibration that is to result as sound, whether the vibrating body is itself vibrating transversely or longitudinally, the wave that finally affects the ear is one of compression and rarefaction. A stretched string may itself vibrate transversely, and in so doing may be scarcely audible; if it is heard at all it is by means of compression and rarefaction which it produces in the air, and which will be...
