Book Bible Proofs for Catholic Truths

Download or read book Bible Proofs for Catholic Truths written by Dave Armstrong and published by Sophia Institute Press. This book was released on 2009-08-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 2,000 Bible Proofs for Catholic Truths! Contrary to what many believe, Catholic doctrine is not made up by popes and theologians but is derived entirely from revelation, as this book shows. In it, veteran Catholic apologist Dave Armstrong gathers in one place countless passages from Holy Scripture that point directly to the teachings of the Catholic Church. This galaxy of more than 2,000 passages from the Bible is overwhelming evidence that on every side Catholic teachings are confirmed by Scripture. Indeed, these passages show that the Catholic Church has a more complete grasp of the meaning of Scripture than those who try to use Scripture to discredit the Church. That’s because Catholic teaching is based not on selective readings of Scripture but on understanding and veneration of the whole Bible in its organic interrelatedness. Catholic doctrines are not distilled from single passages quoted in isolation or out of context; they arise from an encounter with the whole of Scripture, wherein passages on the same theme are read in light of each other, so that together they lead the mind to a complete picture of the truth. That’s why Dave Armstrong has gathered here under 115 thematic headings all the passages in Scripture relating to key Catholic doctrines. This arrangement makes it easy for readers to consider systematically — as the Church does — all the parts of the Bible that relate to any particular Catholic belief. Whether you’re a Protestant seeking to understand Catholicism, or a Catholic wanting to defend Catholic teaching or learn more about its biblical basis, this is the one book you need.

Book How the Bible Actually Works

Download or read book How the Bible Actually Works written by Peter Enns and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Controversial evangelical Bible scholar, popular blogger and podcast host of The Bible for Normal People, and author of The Bible Tells Me So and The Sin of Certainty explains that the Bible is not an instruction manual or rule book but a powerful learning tool that nurtures our spiritual growth by refusing to provide us with easy answers but instead forces us to acquire wisdom. For many Christians, the Bible is a how-to manual filled with literal truths about belief that must be strictly followed. But the Bible is not static, Peter Enns argues. It does not hold easy answers to the perplexing questions and issues that confront us in our daily lives. Rather, the Bible is a dynamic instrument for study that not only offers an abundance of insights but provokes us to find our own answers to spiritual questions, cultivating God’s wisdom within us. “The Bible becomes a confusing mess when we expect it to function as a rulebook for faith. But when we allow the Bible to determine our expectations, we see that Wisdom, not answers, is the Bible’s true subject matter,” writes Enns. This distinction, he points out, is important because when we come to the Bible expecting it to be a textbook intended by God to give us unwavering certainty about our faith, we are actually creating problems for ourselves. The Bible, in other words, really isn’t the problem; having the wrong expectation is what interferes with our reading. Rather than considering the Bible as an ancient book weighed down with problems, flaws, and contradictions that must be defended by modern readers, Enns offers a vision of the holy scriptures as an inspired and empowering resource to help us better understand how to live as a person of faith today. How the Bible Actually Works makes clear that there is no one right way to read the Bible. Moving us beyond the damaging idea that “being right” is the most important measure of faith, Enns’s freeing approach to Bible study helps us to instead focus on pursuing enlightenment and building our relationship with God—which is exactly what the Bible was designed to do.

Book The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith

Download or read book The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith written by Reuben Archer Torrey and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 1918 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of these sermons has had a feeling for a long time that the great need in our churches in this day is systematic indoctrination. He put his theory into practice last winter in his own church, and these sermons are the result. We were having a great many accessions to our church. In the two years of the church's history we had had something like six hundred accessions to the church, and every month considerable numbers of new members were being added. While many of these came by letter from other churches, many of them were new converts and had had practically no systematic instruction in the fundamental truths of the Christian faith, so we announced a series of sermons on The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith. There was immediately a large increase in the attendance at the services where these addresses were given, and this increase has kept up until on the last Lord's Day we had much the largest attendance we have ever had, excepting on Easter Sunday. Many have testified to the blessing received from these sermons, and there has been a great demand that the sermons be printed for general circulation. This request has come from ministers of various denominations, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, and others. It is hoped that this volume will be useful to other pastors in suggesting lines of teaching in their regular pastoral work, and also that it may be used widely by pastors and others for circulation among Christians. We live in a day in which many of our church members are all at sea as to what they believe on the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. These sermons have already helped many through their delivery. It is hoped they will reach and help far more in the printed form.

Book A Year of Biblical Womanhood

Download or read book A Year of Biblical Womanhood written by Rachel Held Evans and published by Thomas Nelson Inc. This book was released on 2012 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times Bestseller. With just the right mixture of humor and insight, compassion and incredulity, A Year of Biblical Womanhood is an exercise in scriptural exploration and spiritual contemplation. What does God truly expect of women, and is there really a prescription for biblical womanhood? Come along with Evans as she looks for answers in the rich heritage of biblical heroines, models of grace, and all-around women of valor. What is "biblical womanhood" . . . really? Strong-willed and independent, Rachel Held Evans couldn't sew a button on a blouse before she embarked on a radical life experiment--a year of biblical womanhood. Intrigued by the traditionalist resurgence that led many of her friends to abandon their careers to assume traditional gender roles in the home, Evans decides to try it for herself, vowing to take all of the Bible's instructions for women as literally as possible for a year. Pursuing a different virtue each month, Evans learns the hard way that her quest for biblical womanhood requires more than a "gentle and quiet spirit" (1 Peter 3:4). It means growing out her hair, making her own clothes, covering her head, obeying her husband, rising before dawn, abstaining from gossip, remaining silent in church, and even camping out in the front yard during her period. See what happens when a thoroughly modern woman starts referring to her husband as "master" and "praises him at the city gate" with a homemade sign. Learn the insights she receives from an ongoing correspondence with an Orthodox Jewish woman, and find out what she discovers from her exchanges with a polygamist wife. Join her as she wrestles with difficult passages of scripture that portray misogyny and violence against women.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evidence for the inspiration of the Bible, the deity of Christ, testimony of fulfilled prophecy, and the argument for the existence of the God of the Bible The uniqueness of Christianity, authenticity of God’s Word, and character of God Many people in Christian circles today no longer believe that the Bible is reliable in its traditional literal and historical sense. They have come to feel that their religious experience must be realized either through some sort of subjective “encounter” with Christ or else through involvement in social action movements. The emphasis is now on “relevance” and “fulfillment,” rather than truth. The purpose of this book is to survey the “many infallible proofs” of the unique truth and authority of biblical Christianity, together with a refutation of its alleged fallacies and a reconciliation of its alleged discrepancies. Not only is there no mistake or contradiction in the Bible, but also there are innumerable evidences of its divine inspiration and authority.

Book excerpt: It is most essential for every Christian to become grounded in the Christian faith. Essentials Simple But Biblical is designed to inform your faith. The material provided is strictly Biblical, not denominational. Pastor Emery Moss, my former student at Cass Technical High School, has years of experience teaching basic Bible truth. Pastor Robert Anderson likewise is experienced and grounded in the faith "once delivered unto the saints" (Jude 3). We are instructed by Scripture to "grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18). This work will teach you where to begin, and how to begin, starting with a focus upon Biblical evidence and Biblical logic. Though this work is simple, it is not simplistic. No matter whether you are new to faith in Christ, or whether you have been "in the faith" for many years, this resource will introduce you to important principles and facts about the Christian faith you may not have known before. You will gain new insights into what you thought were familiar passages in the Bible, starting with the Gospel of John, chapter One. Essentials Simple But Biblical is unique in its emphasis upon apologetics--providing solid reasons why faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible as the very divinely inspired written Word of God is grounded in verifiable facts and evidence. It is unique in its extensive coverage of the mistaken views of a number of false cults. You will learn the amazing fact that all of the false cults stumble with the opening words of the Gospel of John. Here also is a thorough Biblical study of the important doctrine of the Trinity. My advice is get this book! Read this book! Share this book! Teach this book! If you are in ministry, Preach this book! Book Truth That Will Set You Free

Download or read book Truth That Will Set You Free written by John David Haffenden and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-09-29 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout this book you'll read about very important prophesied biblical events that have already occurred, leading right up to the beginning of the Church Age. Also explore what occurs during and after the Church Age. Our entire reference has been God's Holy Word (KJV); the goal of this book is not to give you thoughts or comments of the author or others, because these would be no less erroneous and misleading than many already given and recorded. Only God's Holy Spirit knows the mind and intent of almighty God, the Father. He promised that He would teach us and make God's mind and intent known to us. My prayer for this book is based on Proverbs 22:21: "That I might make thee to know the certainty of the words of truth, that thou mightest be able to answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee." I most sincerely hope and pray that in regard to each subject in this book, you will do as the Bereans did. Verify every word in this book with God's word. It is God's will that each person should be personally convinced and persuaded.
