Book excerpt: Excerpt from Essential Elements of Business Character When the observer has thus summarized business character he has covered the ground pretty well, and yet it leaves him dissatisfied because he has said nothing on which an inquirer could pin a definite resolution. No clue is disclosed by which the student can seek further light. Now, simply to open the subject a little further, I have noted a few experiences with a thought or two drawn therefrom. The reader will oblige me if he considers each chapter, not as an attempt at a complete treatise or essay, but rather as consisting of notes on several aspects of business character as I have found them in successful, living business men. Some of these chapters appeared as a series in The Outlook last winter, and the others have been added for the purpose of extending a few of the thoughts into further details. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Business Why should we not insist similarly on a certain minimum study, somewhere in the school career of every boy and girl, of the elements of business as a necessity for success in every field? However skilled a man may be in science or in art, if at the same time he is ignorant of everyday business routine, he is at the mercy of unscrupulous people with whom he may deal. Or, however skilled a woman may be in the domestic arts, if she does not know the best methods of buying, saving, and investing, she is seriously handi capped. These are matters touching the lives of all, and they are of such vital import in the stress of mere living that they should find a place in the educational program of every school. As a contribution to this important field of study, the authors offer the following chapters on business methods essential to successful living. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Value of Character in Business I think there have been a great many innocent errors made with regard to the meaning of the word character. An employe going from one master to another used to be said to take with him a good character, when what was meant was that he was taking with him a good reputation. The difference is that the character of a man is what he makes of himself, while his reputation is what other people think about him. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Essentials of Character: A Practical Study of the Aim of Moral Education Earnest men and women everywhere are deeply concerned in the development of character in the young, and many of them, especially parents and teachers, are actively engaged in moral training. This book has been written in the belief that a clear comprehension of what really makes up human character would be one of the first and best aids to the actual worker. The whole plan and style of the work, including the selection of material, - and the omission of many things, - have been determined by this practical aim. This statement is not meant as an excuse for inaccuracy or fallacies, which I have endeavored scrupulously to avoid. The ruling idea in my own mind throughout, and I hope in the book, is what may be called the dynamic and organic nature of character: that character springs from native impulses and tendencies in the child, which are full of power, of push and thrust, and make themselves feAbout the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Applied Business Punctuation and Business Forms Classic Reprint written by Hubert A. Hagar and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Applied Business Punctuation and Business Forms Punctuation is the use of different characters to separate words, elements, and sentences in such a way as to help to convey to the reader the exact thought of the writer. Every one who reads and writes English, or any other language, has. Some knowledge of punctuation. Many persons punctuate well without ever having made any systematic study of the subject. In fact, comparatively few make a study of punctuation. To study literature is to study punctuation. Every thing one reads or writes is a study in punctuation, for in order to either read or write understandingly a definite regard must be given to the marks that bring out the different Shades of meaning. Conversely, a study of punctuation is a study Of language, of the balance and value of words and their relation to each other. The understanding of the ideas intended to be conveyed by the words used is the basis for good punctuation, for one cannot punctuate what he does not understand. Any one who has formed a habit of accurate reading, even if his reading has been somewhat limited, Should be able to punctuate fairly well. If, on the other hand, his reading has been Slip-shod, his punctuation is apt to partake of that characteristic. A careful Observation Of the punctuation in one chapter of a well - written book, or in an editorial from a high - grade newspaper or maga zine, will result in a grasping of the principles of the subject - for there are general underlying principles.
