Book Oil Transport Management

Download or read book Oil Transport Management written by Y.H. Venus Lun and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-07-25 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume in a new Springer Series on Shipping and Transport Logistics, Oil Transport Management provides a full historical account of the evolution of the oil transport industry since the 1800's. In this comprehensive guide, the authors investigate the industry and describe the shipping market and its structure, as well as forecasting, location plan and the transportation chain. They dedicate a separate chapter to each topic to cover various concepts, including: an introduction to the tanker shipping market, including how the freight, new vessel building, second hand and demolition markets influence one another, the economic structure and organization of the tanker industry in both the past and present, and forecasting the need for oil-based sea transportation. Further chapters present case studies and simulations to illustrate the importance of factory location decisions and the need for oil infrastructure investments. Chapter One also includes a regression equation to predict the fleet size in tanker shipping. Oil Transport Management is a key reference, which can be practically applied to wider global research and practices. Ideal for both industry practitioners, and researchers and students of shipping studies, Oil Transport Management provides a concise yet comprehensive coverage of the oil transport industry's history and a guide for its future development.

Book The Theory of Oil Tankship Rates

Download or read book The Theory of Oil Tankship Rates written by Zenon S. Zannetos and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 802 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theory of Oil Tankship Rates: An Economic Analysis of Tankship Operations This study is based on my doctoral dissertation and subsequent related research that I conducted in the area of tankship transportation economics. The essential characteristics of the tankship markets, and the factors that influence the behavior of tanker owners and tanker charterers, have not changed since 1959 when I submitted the dissertation to the Department of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Intervening events provided further evidence that the conclusions reached then are based on fundamental interrelationships of general applicability and which can stand the test of time. My interest in the area of tankship rate formation started in the spring of 1956, and was stimulated by Professor Morris A. Adelman who became chairman of my thesis committee. To him, and Professors Charles P.Kindleberger and Robert M. Solow, the other members of the committee, I wish to express my great appreciation for their guidance. To those who assisted me with the original manuscript I once again acknowledge my gratitude. In particular I wish to thank Professor Gordon Shillinglaw, now at Columbia University, and Miss Miriam Sherburne of the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who offered helpful criticism and suggestions on organization and form. The Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology supported part of the cost of data collection and processing with a grant from the Sloan Research Funds, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Computation Center allotted computer time to my research project for many statistical calculations and tests. To those responsible for this aid go my sincere thanks. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Transportation of Oil by Sea

Download or read book The Transportation of Oil by Sea written by Tony Akaki and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-10 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before the coming of the 'dot com" era it was by no accident that the richest individuals in the world were involved with tankers. Probably the most famous ship owner in the world was Aristotle Socrates Onassis. But before one looks at tanker freights of which Onassis among others managed to secure a good return on capital it is crucial to recap and examine some of the factors that affected the tanker industry starting with the Second World War. The Transportation of Oil by Sea offers a fascinating introductory account of crude oil transportation and how international issues from World War II, pre-independence Zimbabwe, and the Iran-Iraq War have been influenced by considerations for oil production and transportation. Author Tony Akaki presents a diversity of geographical, political, environmental, and economic insights in one volume, offering a compelling look at this often-overlooked aspect of history.

Book Transportation Policy and Economic Regulation

Download or read book Transportation Policy and Economic Regulation written by John Bitzan and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-04-14 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transportation Policy and Economic Regulation: Essays in Honor of Theodore Keeler addresses a number of today’s important transportation policy issues, exploring a variety of transportation modes, and examining the policy implications of a number of alternatives. Theodore Keeler had a distinguished career in transportation economics, helping to shape regulatory policies concerning the transportation industries and assessing the appropriateness of various policies. A distinguishing feature of his work is that it always had policy implications. As a tribute to Theodore Keeler, this book examines transportation policy issues across a variety of transportation industries, including aviation, railroads, highways, motor carrier transport, automobiles, urban transit, and ocean shipping. The book evaluates the economic impact and effectiveness of various policies, employing empirical analyses and new estimation techniques, such as Bayesian analysis. The book is designed for transportation professionals and researchers, as well as transportation economics students, providing an in-depth analysis of some of today’s important transportation policy issues. Policy changes established in the last 35-40 years have introduced profound changes in the business environment of the transportation industry. Past policy changes promoted the free market’s role in setting prices and determining service availability. While 21st century policy has focused on a variety of other issues, such as safety, road and air congestion, productivity growth, labor relations and exhaust emission, many still promote the role of competition. In addition to examining various transportation policy issues in the U.S., the book explores some approaches to dealing with transportation issues in different parts of the world. Contemporary transportation policy debates have broadened from their initial focus of primarily examining the merits of reforming economic regulations at national levels, to now examining a variety of issues such as alternative methods of social regulation (such as safety regulation and emission controls), new approaches to changing economic regulations, the potential for reforming international regulations, and the appropriate role for government in transportation. Examines transportation policy developments across a variety of modes, including some international analysis Shows how new policy changes, such as changes in regulation, affect overall transportation system performance Features chapters that use innovative methodologies, such as Bayesian techniques, qualitative analysis, and an attribute-incorporated Malmquist productivity index Examines the ways that policy impacts depend on a variety of factors, and shows how economic tools can be used to gain greater insights into the likely impacts of policy and the desirability of various policies Analyzes transport prices, quality of service, safety, the use of information technology and operating issues, highlighting how transportation enhances quality of life

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Economic Theory and Ocean: Transportation of Oil The subject of this presentatien is economic theory and oil transportation by otean going vessels. I must at the outset admit that it is very pretentious for anyone to even attempt a topic such as this, let alone to be all encompassing, given the breadth and depth of economic theory. So I will limit myself to certain aspects of economic behavior as these aspects affect the supply and demand of ocean transportation capacity and eventually determine tanker rates. As for the latter, I will attempt to cover both Spot and period rates, within, of course, the scope of the economic issues with which I will be dealing.
