Book Changing Concepts of Contract

Download or read book Changing Concepts of Contract written by David Campbell and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changing Concepts of Contract is a prestigious collection of essays that re-examines the remarkable contributions of Ian Macneil to the study of contract law and contracting behaviour. Ian Macneil, who taught at Cornell University, the University of Virginia and, latterly, at Northwestern University, was the principal architect of relational contract theory, an approach that sought to direct attention to the context in which contracts are made. In this collection, nine leading UK contract law scholars re-consider Macneil's work and examine his theories in light of new social and technological circumstances. In doing so, they reveal relational contract theory to be a pertinent and insightful framework for the study and practice of the subject, one that presents a powerful challenge to the limits of orthodox contract law scholarship. In tandem with his academic life, Ian Macneil was also the 46th Chief of the Clan Macneil. Included in this volume is a Preface by his son Rory Macneil, the 47th Chief, who reflects on the influences on his father's thinking of those experiences outside academia. The collection also includes a Foreword by Stewart Macaulay, Malcolm Pitman Sharp Hilldale Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an Introduction by Jay M Feinman, Distinguished Professor of Law at Rutgers School of Law.

Book Essays on the Awareness of Loss in Contemporary Albanian Literature

Download or read book Essays on the Awareness of Loss in Contemporary Albanian Literature written by Bavjola Gami Shatro and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2024-05-29 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essays on the Awareness of Loss in Contemporary Albanian Literature: Voices that Come fom the Abyss is the first scholarly monograph on the concept of loss in Albanian poetry and life writing of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It represents the first academic contribution to an international audience dedicated to three women writers that personified loss in communist Albania and two eminent poets who wrote representative and outstanding poetry on the meaning of loss in Albanian literature. Through the work of these three politically persecuted women writers and two modern poets, this book analyzes loss in relation to pain, grief, memory, death, freedom, and love inquiring on the meeting point between life writing and poetry, and the point where they part ways. The book explores the work of: Musine Kokalari, the first Albanian woman writer and political dissident; Bedi Pipa, the first woman known to have authored a diary in Albanian literature; Drita Çomo, author of a diary and poetry written in secret in political exile under communism; Fatos Arapi the Albanian poet who has been awarded the most important international literary prize to date and who has elaborated on the ethical implications of freedom, grief and death in relation to (personal) loss; Ali Podrimja a cornerstone of contemporary Albanian poetry, author of a volume that marked a definite turn to modernity in Albanian poetry in the Republic of Kosova and to date one of the best volumes of poetry written in the history of Albanian literature Lum Lumi, where he explores the depth of grief, pain, loss and love. The works of these five authors bring forth the necessity to re-visit the history of Albanian literature and promote interdisciplinary and comparative studies beyond Albanian literature. Shatro studies the unique traits of their life writing, the specific link between different literary genres and the exceptional capacity of poetry to carry loss to the point of articulating the unsaid, thus giving a voice to silence. She argues that through diary, memoir, epistolary and poetry, all five authors provide different views of loss and its challenging ethical implications in relation to death, memory, and freedom.

Book Reading and Living Scripture Essays in Honor of William S Kurz S J

Download or read book Reading and Living Scripture Essays in Honor of William S Kurz S J written by Jeremy Holmes and published by Emmaus Academic. This book was released on 2021-01-29 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, respected Scripture scholar Fr. William S. Kurz, S.J. has exemplified the unity of scholarship, faith, and action. In Reading and Living Scripture, edited by Jeremy Holmes and Kent Lasnoski, an international gathering of scholars pays tribute to his life and work. The first essay speaks to the need for the unity Fr. Kurz has lived so well. The next three essays illuminate the kind of scholarship typical of Fr. Kurz’s career: one tracks the key verb “choose” across Luke-Acts; another investigates the dinner at Emmaus through an interpretation of Caravaggio’s famous painting; a third explores how we should imagine the everyday life of ordinary people in the seven cities that first received the book of Revelation. The next two essays, together with the final essay of the volume, examine the necessary union of exegesis and faith: one cannot separate exegesis of the human events of Scripture from the theological meaning of the text, because human agency cannot be separated from the action of the divine agency. The remaining essays highlight how faith-filled scholarship should feed action: one interprets the relevance of Genesis 1–3 for a theology of work, and another argues that the early chapters of Genesis are still relevant for morality today; a third essay highlights the role of the charisms of the Spirit in the Christian life, reflecting Fr. Kurz’s own background in the charismatic movement; lastly, one essay describes Fr. Kurz’s long life of action in the pro-life movement. Written and assembled by friends, colleagues, students, and long-time friends of Fr. Kurz, this festschrift honors his accomplishments and mirrors his virtues.
