Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of current developments within feminist political economy, including reformulations of economic theory, historical and empirical research on the economic roles and status of women and people of color, as well as proposals for broadening the public policy agenda. Rather than offering a feminist critique of neoclassical economics, this volume presents feminist economics in dialogue with progressive economic theory and public policy. It differentiates itself further by addressing issues of class, race and sexuality in interaction with gender.

Book Capital

  • Author : Karl Marx
  • Publisher : Cosimo, Inc.
  • Release : 2007-12-30
  • ISBN : 1605200077
  • Pages : 330 pages

Download or read book Capital written by Karl Marx and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2007-12-30 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A classic of early modernism, Capital combines vivid historical detail with economic analysis to produce a bitter denunciation of mid-Victorian capitalist society. It has also proved to be the most influential work in social science in the twentieth century; Marx did for social science what Darwin had done for biology. Millions of readers this century have treated Capital as a sacred text, subjecting it to as many different interpretations as the Bible itself. No mere work of dry economics, Marx's great work depicts the unfolding of industrial capitalism as a tragic drama - with a message which has lost none of its relevance today. This is the only abridged edition to take account of the whole of Capital. It offers virtually all of Volume 1, which Marx himself published in 1867, excerpts from a new translation of 'The Result of the Immediate Process of Production', and a selection of key chapters from Volume 3, which Engels published in 1895.

Book A Voyage Round the World

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1832, U.S. president Andrew Jackson, acting on the advice of Secretary of the Navy Levi Woodbury, dispatched Edmund Roberts as a "special agent of the government," empowered to negotiate treaties of amity and commerce with countries in Asia. The objective was to expand trade between these countries and the United States. Between early 1832 and May 1834, Roberts circumnavigated the globe. In the course of his journey, he negotiated treaties with the Sultan of Muscat (Oman) and the King of Siam (Thailand). Following his return to the United States and ratification of the treaties by the Senate, in 1835 Roberts was sent back to Muscat and Siam to exchange the ratifications. This work, written by the surgeon of the ship that carried Roberts, is an account of the second voyage. In addition to Muscat and Siam, other countries visited on the voyage and described in this work include Brazil, Tanzania, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Mexico, Peru, and Chile. Roberts himself did not live to complete his mission. He died in Macao on June 12, 1836.

Book Ricardo and International Trade

Download or read book Ricardo and International Trade written by Shigeyoshi Senga and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-05-18 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David Ricardo’s theories have been widely studied and discussed, including the prominent theory on comparative advantage. Ricardo and International Trade looks at the ongoing renaissance of the Ricardian international trade theory. The book’s interpretation brings fresh insights into and new developments on the Ricardian international trade theory by examining the true meaning of the ‘four magic numbers’. By putting together theories of comparative advantage and international money, the book attempts to elucidate Ricardo’s international trade theory in the real world. This book also features contributions from the Japanese perspective and compares Ricardian theories with those of his contemporaries, such as Malthus, Torrens and J. S. Mill. This book will be a valuable reference for researchers and scholars with interests in history of economic thought and international economics.
