Los videojuegos son, además de entretenimiento, un enorme negocio. En torno a programas de temática deportiva y no deportiva existen ya competiciones con gran número de participantes y seguidores, e incluso algunos jugadores profesionales que entrenan las destrezas y habilidades precisas para triunfar. Sin diferenciar contenidos se habla interesadamente de deportes electrónicos o e-Sports, habiéndose llegado a proponer su reconocimiento como deporte, con unas connotaciones y beneficios publicitarios inigualables. Ello ha generado un debate técnico-deportivo (desde las Ciencias del deporte) y jurídico que discurre compartimentado y con planteamientos y respuestas diferentes. La presente monografía, realizada por un autor sobradamente conocido como es Javier Rodríguez Ten y que cuenta con el prólogo de un jurista de reconocido prestigio como Alberto Palomar Olmeda, analiza minuciosamente, desde ambos puntos de vista, los requisitos que debe reunir una actividad para poder ser reconocida como modalidad deportiva, aplicándolo al caso concreto de los e-Sports aprovechando su condición de jurista deportivo y de Vicedecano del grado en Ciencias de la actividad física y del deporte en la Universidad San Jorge (Zaragoza).
