Book Land Squandering and Social Crisis in the Spanish City

Download or read book Land Squandering and Social Crisis in the Spanish City written by Jesús Manuel González Pérez and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-06-20 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last two decades have been marked by intense and accelerated economic, political, and cultural processes that have affected urban spaces. These changes have occurred in different parts of cities (traditional centers, edges, peripheries) and at different levels of the urban system (large and medium-sized cities and in their respective areas of influence). Possibly the clearest expression of the spatial effects on cities can be perceived in their morphological transformations, their territorial dimensions, or in their social problems. Until 2008, urban–territorial processes were a reflection of the logic and inconsistencies of an expansive economic context and of a structural context that favored the development of cities through concurrent processes and actors. As a result, the built land and amount of urbanized and built surfaces increased, together with processes of the expansion and modernization of cities. Since 2008, the expansive economic cycle has ended, and there have been diverse negative consequences. Notably, the construction sector has come to an abrupt halt. Access to credit has also been reduced, and unemployment has increased. The economic recession has caused sociodemographic and socioeconomic issues exemplified by housing vulnerability, with dispossession, evictions, a shortage of social housing, and energy poverty.

Book Urban Challenges in Spain and Portugal

Download or read book Urban Challenges in Spain and Portugal written by Nuria Benach and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary cities in the Iberian Peninsula have gone through a period of dramatic changes during the last decade. A period of upward economic indicators and massive urbanization was followed by a tremendous financial crash in 2007 that sank Spanish and Portuguese societies into a profound crisis. That period of massive urbanization has been explained by several factors: the availability of financial capital that was speculatively invested in real-estate, a rather sympathetic land use regulation, and the real or perceived social mobility by most social groups which included housing acquisition enabled by unusual credit facilities. In this book we aim to show several different aspects of this process both in Portugal and Spanish cities, problematizing the economic and social consequences of such a model of urban and economic growth and also presenting some policy and governance outcomes that took place along the last decade. This book was published as a special issue of Urban Research and Practice.

Book Housing and Housing Politics in European Metropolises

Download or read book Housing and Housing Politics in European Metropolises written by Rainer Wehrhahn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-04 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neoliberal paradigms and the privatisation of housing have recently been confronted with social movements in many large European metropolises. The political and social need for more participation in housing, for new forms of urban land politics and for specific and powerful rental regulation is obvious. The special book section analyses these dimensions of housing and housing politics in a comparative European perspective and discusses new policy approaches for urban housing. Furthermore, the Jahrbuch StadtRegionoffers scientific articles and reports, as well as a monitoring section and book reviews related to interdisciplinary urban research and planning issues.

Book Espacio p blico ciudad y conjuntos hist ricos

Download or read book Espacio p blico ciudad y conjuntos hist ricos written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
