Book excerpt: The fact is - the human being is a subject of energy. We are totally governed by impulsed energy that comes from a consciousness we are aligned to. It is our deepest form of responsibility to know this and thus to choose the right and true consciousness we are to be impulsed by. In view of the facts and our evident history, energetic ignorance has long been the cause of our downfall as a race of beings. It does NOT pay to be ignorant of how the world actually operates energetically. If illness and disease are on the rise and rise, if violence is escalating and not declining, if more extreme behaviour is on the increase and, if the planet is showing us such unsettling weather patterns and all of it is taking place in a world where it is a fact that everything is energy, should we not ask what is energetically going on and how we are energetically living? Everything is energy - therefore, everything is because of energy. When this becomes our way of thinking again, we will remember that there is a specific and known energy to choose well before we decide how to live as human beings.

  • Pages : 278 pages

Download or read book Revelations written by Elaine Pagels and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2012-03-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A startling exploration of the history of the most controversial book of the Bible, by the bestselling author of Beyond Belief. Through the bestselling books of Elaine Pagels, thousands of readers have come to know and treasure the suppressed biblical texts known as the Gnostic Gospels. As one of the world's foremost religion scholars, she has been a pioneer in interpreting these books and illuminating their place in the early history of Christianity. Her new book, however, tackles a text that is firmly, dramatically within the New Testament canon: The Book of Revelation, the surreal apocalyptic vision of the end of the world . . . or is it? In this startling and timely book, Pagels returns The Book of Revelation to its historical origin, written as its author John of Patmos took aim at the Roman Empire after what is now known as "the Jewish War," in 66 CE. Militant Jews in Jerusalem, fired with religious fervor, waged an all-out war against Rome's occupation of Judea and their defeat resulted in the desecration of Jerusalem and its Great Temple. Pagels persuasively interprets Revelation as a scathing attack on the decadence of Rome. Soon after, however, a new sect known as "Christians" seized on John's text as a weapon against heresy and infidels of all kinds-Jews, even Christians who dissented from their increasingly rigid doctrines and hierarchies. In a time when global religious violence surges, Revelations explores how often those in power throughout history have sought to force "God's enemies" to submit or be killed. It is sure to appeal to Pagels's committed readers and bring her a whole new audience who want to understand the roots of dissent, violence, and division in the world's religions, and to appreciate the lasting appeal of this extraordinary text.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, great new trends of Jewish thought emerged whose widely varied representatives--Kabbalists, philosophers, and astrologers--each claimed that their particular understanding revealed the actual secret of the Torah. They presented their own readings in a coded fashion that has come to be regarded by many as the very essence of esotericism. Concealment and Revelation takes us on a fascinating journey to the depths of the esoteric imagination. Carefully tracing the rise of esotericism and its function in medieval Jewish thought, Moshe Halbertal's richly detailed historical and cultural analysis gradually builds conceptual-philosophical force to culminate in a masterful phenomenological taxonomy of esotericism and its paradoxes. Among the questions addressed: What are the internal justifications that esoteric traditions provide for their own existence, especially in the Jewish world, in which the spread of knowledge was of great importance? How do esoteric teachings coexist with the revealed tradition, and what is the relationship between the various esoteric teachings that compete with that revealed tradition? Halbertal concludes that, through the medium of the concealed, Jewish thinkers integrated into the heart of the Jewish tradition diverse cultural influences such as Aristotelianism, Neoplatonism, and Hermeticisims. And the creation of an added concealed layer, unregulated and open-ended, became the source of the most daring and radical interpretations of the tradition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the esotericist, the reality of Christ is something that ought to be sought after. It is the living manifestation of profound spiritual insight. The early civilizations of humanity held a firm conviction in the reality of a metaphysical realm with forces and activities that, under ideal circumstances, manifested as the many kingdoms of nature on the outer plane of existence. The sages and initiates of the period learned about this underlying reality through an objective view of clairvoyant insights and perceptions. Because of the significance of these insights, those ancient cultures acquired a sense of veneration for the metaphysical nature of the human being and of the divine. This was distinguished by their various religious activities (rites, ceremonies, etc.), which became embodied as philosophical traditions. One of such traditions is the doctrine of Gnosticism, or Gnosis, which offers a reliable stream of esoteric knowledge and insight. The nature of Gnosis is thus looked at through the framework of esotericism.

Book excerpt: Selected by the Modern Library as one of the 100 best nonfiction books of all time The Gnostic Gospels is a landmark study of the long-buried roots of Christianity, a work of luminous scholarship and wide popular appeal. First published in 1979 to critical acclaim, winning the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award, The Gnostic Gospels has continued to grow in reputation and influence over the past two decades. It is now widely recognized as one of the most brilliant and accessible histories of early Christian spirituality published in our time. In 1945 an Egyptian peasant unearthed what proved to be the Gnostic Gospels, thirteen papyrus volumes that expounded a radically different view of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ from that of the New Testament. In this spellbinding book, renowned religious scholar Elaine Pagels elucidates the mysteries and meanings of these sacred texts both in the world of the first Christians and in the context of Christianity today. With insight and passion, Pagels explores a remarkable range of recently discovered gospels, including the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, to show how a variety of “Christianities” emerged at a time of extraordinary spiritual upheaval. Some Christians questioned the need for clergy and church doctrine, and taught that the divine could be discovered through spiritual search. Many others, like Buddhists and Hindus, sought enlightenment—and access to God—within. Such explorations raised questions: Was the resurrection to be understood symbolically and not literally? Was God to be envisioned only in masculine form, or feminine as well? Was martyrdom a necessary—or worthy—expression of faith? These early Christians dared to ask questions that orthodox Christians later suppressed—and their explorations led to profoundly different visions of Jesus and his message. Brilliant, provocative, and stunning in its implications, The Gnostic Gospels is a radical, eloquent reconsideration of the origins of the Christian faith.

Book Revelation of St John

  • Publisher : Weiser Books
  • Release : 2006-05-20

Download or read book Revelation of St John written by Zachary F. Lansdowne and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2006-05-20 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Revelation of St. John, the last book of the canonical Bible, has been a mystery since it first appeared. No other part of the Bible has caused more controversy. Traditional interpretations of the book fall into one of three categories: the major prophecies that are supposed to have been fulfilled in the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.; the historical view that Revelation predicts the course of human events from the founding of Christianity to the end of the world; or the futurist view that Revelation predicts events that will occur at the end of the world. It's actually none of the above, writes Zachary F. Lansdowne, a leading expert in the field of spiritual initiation. In the Introduction to this rich and complex interpretation, he writes, "According to its own verses, the Revelation is concerned with the present time, which is whatever time we happen to be reading it, and contains information that we can apply immediately to become blessed." This is not a book about "end times" or Armageddon and when it might come. This is a book written entirely in symbols, concealing a path for early Christians, and for the contemporary reader. Lansdowne has applied a unique psychological method of interpretation that takes each symbol as depicting some aspect of human consciousness rather than an eternal event, thus showing that the Revelation is actually a detailed instruction for the spiritual journey--a map to the wakening of higher consciousness. Moreover, while the Revelation appears in the great lineage of Judeo-Christian tradition, Lansdowne shows that its instruction can be appreciated and applied to seekers from any tradition. Lansdowne's line-by-line and verse-by-verse interpretation--presented here in an easy-to-read side-by-side format--is a manual for the true seeker who would follow teachings of Jesus as they were and are laid out, rather than as they have been interpreted by theologians and biblical historians. The Revelation of St. John, when unlocked by the key of psychological methodology, is revealed to contain ideas from many diverse wisdom traditions and philosophies--archangels in Judaism, chakras and kundalini in Hinduism, Buddhist mindfulness, the redemptive power of love in Christianity, and absolute standards of comparison in Platonic philosophy. Zachary Lansdowne's revelatory text makes these teachings of the path to true soul initiation available to seekers from every spiritual tradition.

Book Esoteric Teachings and Revelations for the Livingness Vol III

Download or read book Esoteric Teachings and Revelations for the Livingness Vol III written by Serge Benhayon and published by . This book was released on 2019-03 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My work this time round holds one overall teaching. And you shall come to this as the many teachings unfold along the way. Should you align to the teachings then it could be said that as a student of the literature you are to note its symbolism as well as its accurate representation of human life, a way of life that is fashioned under the light of creation, the dominant astral life-force that sustains the Etheric Spirit, its creator. One day this will not be the light that generates human life. But until then, and because only we as a collective can make that day real, we are to admit the grand failures, the suffering, the relentless anguish of separatism and the inescapable fact that human life as it is known to most is one unceasing disquiet that we incessantly seek to relieve and ultimately hope we can prevent. But know this - its true arrest is possible, it is in fact inevitable. And the expression this time around will illuminate how but more so why, that is, it is why we ought not to suffer, not experience excitement or misery, not judge, not fight, not discriminate and not seek security at the expense of truth. Despite the period of correction, and its not so pleasant outplay, we are all on course to re-attain the quiet of the Universe once again. Whatever your journey, know that the richly magnificent conclusion is coming your way, our way; indeed, the One Song will again be our only tune.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been a long tradition among the Hebrews to use the pesher (dream interpretation code) which had encoded messages regarding two levels of information written within a story. One level was written as an allegory that told a message about morality. The other level was written about esoteric instruction and political events which mirrored inner growth. Each of the 22 chapters are inspired by the 22 Hebrew alphabet letters. In this book The Alchemy of Christ: The Book of Revelation I give a commentary on the Book of Revelations Apocalypse means revealing, and it is the revealing of the Christ within. The final battle of Armageddon takes place within us. This is an inner war that will transform us and bring us back to recovery to the state of Christ Consciousness. The political struggles within the world mirror the transformation of the individual. Just as we recover, the earth as a whole will recover as well leading to an enlightened Civilization.
