Download or read book Algebraic Geometry between Tradition and Future written by Gilberto Bini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-05 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An incredible season for algebraic geometry flourished in Italy between 1860, when Luigi Cremona was assigned the chair of Geometria Superiore in Bologna, and 1959, when Francesco Severi published the last volume of the treatise on algebraic systems over a surface and an algebraic variety. This century-long season has had a prominent influence on the evolution of complex algebraic geometry - both at the national and international levels - and still inspires modern research in the area. "Algebraic geometry in Italy between tradition and future" is a collection of contributions aiming at presenting some of these powerful ideas and their connection to contemporary and, if possible, future developments, such as Cremonian transformations, birational classification of high-dimensional varieties starting from Gino Fano, the life and works of Guido Castelnuovo, Francesco Severi's mathematical library, etc. The presentation is enriched by the viewpoint of various researchers of the history of mathematics, who describe the cultural milieu and tell about the bios of some of the most famous mathematicians of those times.

Download or read book Introductory Mathematical Analysis for Quantitative Finance written by Daniele Ritelli and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-04-13 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introductory Mathematical Analysis for Quantitative Finance is a textbook designed to enable students with little knowledge of mathematical analysis to fully engage with modern quantitative finance. A basic understanding of dimensional Calculus and Linear Algebra is assumed. The exposition of the topics is as concise as possible, since the chapters are intended to represent a preliminary contact with the mathematical concepts used in Quantitative Finance. The aim is that this book can be used as a basis for an intensive one-semester course. Features: Written with applications in mind, and maintaining mathematical rigor. Suitable for undergraduate or master's level students with an Economics or Management background. Complemented with various solved examples and exercises, to support the understanding of the subject.

Download or read book Physical Modeling and Computational Techniques for Thermal and Fluid dynamics written by Maurizio Bottoni and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-12 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on computational techniques for thermal and fluid-dynamic problems arose from seminars given by the author at the Institute of Nuclear Energy Technology of Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. The book is composed of eight chapters-- some of which are characterized by a scholastic approach, others are devoted to numerical solution of ordinary differential equations of first order, and of partial differential equations of first and second order, respectively. In Chapter IV, basic concepts of consistency, stability and convergence of discretization algorithms are covered in some detail. Other parts of the book follow a less conventional approach, mainly informed by the author’s experience in teaching and development of computer programs. Among these is Chapter III, where the residual method of Orthogonal Collocations is presented in several variants, ranging from the classical Galerkin method to Point and Domain Collocations, applied to numerical solution of partial differential equations of first order. In most cases solutions of fluid dynamic problems are led through the discretization process, to the numerical solutions of large linear systems. Intended to impart a basic understanding of numerical techniques that would enable readers to deal with problems of Computational Fluid Dynamics at research level, the book is ideal as a reference for graduate students, researchers, and practitioners.
Download or read book Mathematical Analysis I written by Claudio Canuto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-08 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the volume is to provide a support for a first course in Mathematics. The contents are organised to appeal especially to Engineering, Physics and Computer Science students, all areas in which mathematical tools play a crucial role. Basic notions and methods of differential and integral calculus for functions of one real variable are presented in a manner that elicits critical reading and prompts a hands-on approach to concrete applications. The layout has a specifically-designed modular nature, allowing the instructor to make flexible didactical choices when planning an introductory lecture course. The book may in fact be employed at three levels of depth. At the elementary level the student is supposed to grasp the very essential ideas and familiarise with the corresponding key techniques. Proofs to the main results befit the intermediate level, together with several remarks and complementary notes enhancing the treatise. The last, and farthest-reaching, level requires the additional study of the material contained in the appendices, which enable the strongly motivated reader to explore further into the subject. Definitions and properties are furnished with substantial examples to stimulate the learning process. Over 350 solved exercises complete the text, at least half of which guide the reader to the solution. This new edition features additional material with the aim of matching the widest range of educational choices for a first course of Mathematics.

Download or read book Discrete Calculus written by Carlo Mariconda and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to combinatorics, finite calculus, formal series, recurrences, and approximations of sums. Readers will find not only coverage of the basic elements of the subjects but also deep insights into a range of less common topics rarely considered within a single book, such as counting with occupancy constraints, a clear distinction between algebraic and analytical properties of formal power series, an introduction to discrete dynamical systems with a thorough description of Sarkovskii’s theorem, symbolic calculus, and a complete description of the Euler-Maclaurin formulas and their applications. Although several books touch on one or more of these aspects, precious few cover all of them. The authors, both pure mathematicians, have attempted to develop methods that will allow the student to formulate a given problem in a precise mathematical framework. The aim is to equip readers with a sound strategy for classifying and solving problems by pursuing a mathematically rigorous yet user-friendly approach. This is particularly useful in combinatorics, a field where, all too often, exercises are solved by means of ad hoc tricks. The book contains more than 400 examples and about 300 problems, and the reader will be able to find the proof of every result. To further assist students and teachers, important matters and comments are highlighted, and parts that can be omitted, at least during a first and perhaps second reading, are identified.
