Book Escribir la catalanidad

Download or read book Escribir la catalanidad written by Stewart King and published by Tamesis Books. This book was released on 2005 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explores the interaction of language, culture and identity in contemporary Catalonia and rejects the exclusion of Castilian as a language capable of expressing 'Catalan-ness'. This study, charting the construction of a Catalan identity from the nineteenth-century cultural renaissance until the present day, explores the interaction of language, culture and identity in contemporary Catalonia. Drawing on postcolonial and multicultural literary theories, it argues that Castilian- and Catalan-language narratives are expressions of the same culture. Through detailed analyses of texts by Terenci Moix, Francisco Candel, Ignasi Riera, Montserrat Roig, Juan Marsé, Ramon Pallicé, and Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, among others, the author demonstrates that such writers share similar preoccupations and points of view and also engage in a complex literary and cultural dialogue that cuts across the established linguistic divisions that characterise cultural politics in Catalonia. The Catalan literary establishment's exclusion of Castilian as a language capable of expressing 'Catalan-ness' ischallenged and the author proposes redefining traditional understandings of Catalan literature to take into account texts produced by all members of Catalan society. Stewart King is a lecturer in Hispanic Studies at Monash University, Australia.

Book Algo habla con mi voz

Download or read book Algo habla con mi voz written by Vaitiere Alejandra, Rojas Manrique and published by Universidad Central. This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Fantasmas novias y otros compa eros written by Elly Strik and published by Asamer. This book was released on 2014 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elly Strik's work - drawings and paintings on paper - features brides, birth, rituals and rebirth, witches and mystics, heaven and dreams, in a dialogue with certain aspects from El Greco, Goya, Darwin, Freud, Munch, Ensor and Duchamp.0Strik's approach is instinctive, excessive, and completely focused on itself. With her strong and poetic research she explores the potential of metamorphosis and the process of artistic creation. In her mutant-like figures, turned into shapes, portraits and figures on paper, the inner and outer look are simultaneous and create a visual provocation that forces the onlooker to reflect on the human condition. Download or read book Writing Islands written by Elena Lahr-Vivaz and published by University Press of Florida. This book was released on 2022-10-25 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How contemporary Cuban writers build transnational communities In Writing Islands, Elena Lahr-Vivaz employs methods from archipelagic studies to analyze works of contemporary Cuban writers on the island alongside those in exile. Offering a new lens to explore the multiplicity of Cuban space and identity, she argues that these writers approach their nation as part of a larger, transnational network of islands. Introducing the term “arcubiélago” to describe the spaces created by Cuban writers, both on the ground and in print, Lahr-Vivaz illuminates how transnational communities are forged and how they function across space and time. Lahr-Vivaz considers how poets, novelists, and essayists of the 1990s and 2000s built interconnected communities of readers through blogs, state-sponsored book fairs, informal methods of book circulation, and intertextual dialogues. Book chapters offer in-depth analyses of the works of writers as different as Reina María Rodríguez, known for lyrical poetry, and Zoé Valdés, known for strident critiques of Fidel Castro. Incorporating insights from on-site interviews in Cuba, Spain, and the United States, Lahr-Vivaz analyzes how writers maintained connections materially, through the distribution of works, and metaphorically, as their texts bridge spaces separated by geopolitics. Through a decolonizing methodology that resists limiting Cuba to a distinct geographic space, Writing Islands investigates the nuances of Cuban identity, the creation of alternate spaces of identity, the potential of the Internet for artistic expression, and the transnational bonds that join far-flung communities. Publication of this work made possible by a Sustaining the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Book A Companion to Javier Mar as

Download or read book A Companion to Javier Mar as written by David K. Herzberger and published by Boydell & Brewer Ltd. This book was released on 2011 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed and lively discussion and analysis of the novels, short stories, newspaper columns, and other works of one of the most important and popular writers in Spain today. This book provides the most comprehensive study to date of the full range of Marías' writing, including discussion and analysis of his literary and intellectual formation, his development as a novelist and short story writer, andhis unique perspective offered in nearly twenty-five years of newspaper columns on topics ranging from religion to football. Above all, Marías is examined as a writer of fictions. As a translator of several canonical works from English to Spanish, Marías came to appreciate the preciseness of words as well as their ambiguity, their capacity to represent as well as their propensity to distort. The author examines Marías's constant awareness of how languagecan be used to construct stories as the foundation for engaging the world as well as for imagining it. The nature of Marías's storytelling, and the way in which he imagines, form the principal focus of this Companion. David K. Herzberger is Professor and Chair of the Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of California, Riverside.
