Book Erotic Universe

Download or read book Erotic Universe written by Donald Palumbo and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1986-02-21 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive volume explores the relationship between sex and the fantastic in science fiction and fantasy literature. More than a dozen scholars have contributed essays in which they discuss almost two hundred novels, short stories, tales, plays, poems, myths, and nearly one hundred authors--from Aldiss to Zelazny. The collection is divided into three main sections, the first of which is devoted to the theoretical analysis of the relationship between sexuality and the fantastic. This section contains essays on sexuality and the allure of fantasy, and sexuality and knowledge in science fiction. The second section turns to thematic analyses and includes essays that explore such themes as sexuality and death, forbidden sexuality, sexual attitudes and the search for ethics in contemporary culture, sex and technology, sexual encounters with aliens, sexuality and comedy, and homosexuality in fantasy and science fiction. The third section, devoted to feminist views of sexuality in fantastic literature, includes several studies of the depiction of sexuality in the works of female fantasists, and focuses most closely on Russ, Piercy, LeGuin, and Carter. Examined here is the potential use of science fiction as a vehicle for theorizing about women and for questioning their condition in society. The volume also includes an introductory overview and critical commentary on the literature and a comprehensive, contributor-compiled bibliography of primary works and scholarship on sexuality and related issues in fantastic literature.

Book The Stripper s Pocketbook

Download or read book The Stripper s Pocketbook written by Lars Mundi and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-08-16 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended as a breath of fresh air for those who think your relationship needs something extra. It may be you have an acquaintance, a friend or girlfriend you think would like to have a fun experience. When you choose to do a strip show, always remember others' limits. That they must be respected, just as he or she must respect your boundaries. Whoever we are as a people, whether we are men or women, so we enjoy how others think of us and put us in the center of their lives. The same joy goes when we are talking about getting a strip show or doing one. I am about to make sure that the person you have chosen to get the experience to be in the center of this experience. People will love that is being done something extra for them as you give them this experience. My desire with this book is to give an insight into, what it means to be a stripper and what underlies into a strip show. It is not intended that you should throw yourself into this profession, but more as something to refresh your relationship with. And you'll even get experience of being the star of the evening with the magic associated with it.

Book Erotic Revelations

    Book Details:
  • Author : Andrea Celenza
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2014-06-05
  • ISBN : 1317680278
  • Pages : 179 pages

Download or read book Erotic Revelations written by Andrea Celenza and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-05 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Erotic Revelations: Clinical Applications and Perverse Scenarios delves into erotic desires and fantasies ... above all, how our sexuality expresses our inner being and defines the ways in which we engage in the psychoanalytic situation. Andrea Celenza addresses the 'desexualization' of the psychoanalytic field by reclaiming sexuality as one of the many nexes that are of central concern to the patient. She illustrates a wide range of erotic manifestations (for both therapist and patient) and offers recommendations to practitioners for dealing with erotic material when it arises. Andrea Celenza has divided this book into two parts, with clinical, theoretical, and technical discussions in each chapter: Part I: Varieties and Meanings of Erotic Transferences and Countertransferences Presents the varieties and meanings of erotic transferences and countertransferences common in clinical situations; Includes case studies of erotic material used as examples of phases in treatment as well as moments of defensive impasse; Includes discussions of the management of aggression, underlying merger fantasies, uses of countertransferences (in multiple forms), and dilemmas surrounding self-disclosure. Part II: Perverse Scenarios Revisited Reconceptualizes and restores the term perversion into the clinical lexicon; Views perversion as a quality of relating rather than a specific action or behavior; Presents a wide range of clinical illustrations that demonstrates the usefulness of this reformulation. Erotic Revelations puts sexuality back into psychoanalytic theorizing and makes a place for erotic transferences of whatever shape, in every analysis or therapy. With a strong clinical focus, this book will redefine how to work with many aspects of sex and gender in clinical psychoanalytic practice and will be an essential resource for psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, psychologists, educators, trainers, students and those with an interest in the mental health field.

Book The Erotic Margin

Download or read book The Erotic Margin written by Irvin C. Schick and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender and sexuality have long held an important place in western attitudes towards the people and regions of the world-from the titillating accounts of harem life in the Middle East to terrifying captivity narratives of North America. The Erotic Margin is a first attempt to pull together the large, disparate, and often contradictory literature, and view it as a corpus. Schick argues that such images served to construct spatial difference, and thereby helped Europe represent its own place in the world during an age of rapid geographical expansion. Informed by the recent literature on human geography as well as feminist and postcolonial theory, The Erotic Margin focuses on erotica and sexual anthropology as well as travel literature in which, from the eighteenth century on, both traveler and destination were portrayed in unmistakably gendered and sexualized terms. Reviewing examples ranging from the New World to India, the Near East to black Africa, and the South sea islands to the Barbary Coast, the book reflects on why foreign women were variously portrayed as alluring or threatening, foreign men as effeminate weaklings or dangerous rapists, and foreign lands as sexual idylls or hearts of darkness.

Book The Sex Is Out of This World

Download or read book The Sex Is Out of This World written by Sherry Ginn and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2012-11-08 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Science fiction" can be translated into "real unreality." More than a genre like fantasy, which creates entirely new realms of possibility, science fiction constructs its possibilities from what is real, from what is, indeed, possible, or conceivably so. This collection, then, looks to understand and explore the "unreal reality," to note ways in which our culture's continually changing and evolving mores of sex and sexuality are reflected in, dissected by, and deconstructed through the genre of science fiction. This book is a collection of new essays, with the general objective of filling a gap in the literature about sex and science fiction (although some work has gone before, none of it is recent). The essays herein explore the myriad ways in which authors--regardless of format (print, film, television, etc.)--envision very different beings expressing this most fundamental of human behaviors.

Book Hysteria

  • Author : Christopher Bollas
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 1999-11-18
  • ISBN : 1136886877
  • Pages : 202 pages

Download or read book Hysteria written by Christopher Bollas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 1999-11-18 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hysteria has disappeared from contemporary culture only insofar as it has been subjected to a repression through the popular diagnosis of 'borderline personality disorder'. In Hysteria the distinguished psychoanalyst Christopher Bollas offers an original and illuminating theory of hysteria that weaves its well-known features - repressed sexual ideas; indifference to conversion; over-identification with the other - into the hysteric form. Through a rereading of Freud, Bollas argues that sexuality in itself is traumatic to all children, as it 'destroys' the relation to the mother, transfiguring her from 'mamma', the infant's caregiver, to 'mother', the child's and father's sex object. For the hysteric this recognition is endlessly traumatic and the hysterical personality forms itself into an organised opposition to this knowledge. True to his earlier writings, Bollas' vision is thought provoking and mind expanding. Hysteria brings new perspectives to long-standing ideas, making enlightening reading for students and professionals involved in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy alike, as well as the lay reader who takes an interest in the formation of personality in western culture.

Book The Erotic Contemplative

Download or read book The Erotic Contemplative written by Michael Bernard Kelly and published by Clouds of Magellan. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1994, Michael Bernard Kelly recorded six video lectures for the Erospirit Research Institute. The Erotic Contemplative charted a spirituality for gay and lesbian Christians grounded in the contemplative, mystical traditions of the church. Dr Joseph Kramer, who commissioned the lectures, writes: "His powerful words ... seemed to come straight from his heart and right into mine. I told Michael that he was offering transformative guidance, like Joseph Campbell did in his Hero's Journey. 'You have described the Mystic's Journey for Gay and Lesbian Christians.' " The lectures, originally released in 1995, were digitised and re-released in 2020. Now this transcription of all the lectures is published for the first time, and includes a study guide to the series prepared by Michael Kelly. "The Erotic Contemplative" is the most powerful and insightful study of Gay Spirituality that I know of. I have watched 'The Road from Emmaus' lecture three times, and still find new riches!" - John J. McNeill, PhD. Author of The Church and the Homosexual.

Book Sex and the Goddess

Download or read book Sex and the Goddess written by Karin E Weiss Ph.D., PhD and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-11-25 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been over twenty years since the full manuscript of my book was edited for publication in 1998. I had begun writing it in the previous decade, the 1980’s... a period of flourishing women’s liberation movements against the patriarchal status quo. Books about women’s sexuality and spirituality were flooding the bookstores, and many writers were producing profound studies of the untold heroism of women throughout history. I was a pioneer in the burgeoning field of Sex therapy and education at the University of Minnesota Medical School’s “Program in Human Sexuality.” In addition, I conducted women’s self-enrichment groups and workshops in my private practice... “Woman’s Discovery Institute” ... where I also gave professional Astrology readings and classes. This rich mix of psychology, philosophy, spirituality, and a knowledge of the cyclic patterns of life shown by astrology created within me an avid interest in researching women’s unsung heroism throughout history. It brewed in me a heady fascination to stitch it all together in a circle montage that connects all women and all aspects of our multi-layered lives. I based my theory on the lunar cycle, which is eternally linked to women’s menstrual, emotional, and psychic cycles. With a friend, I created a series of workshops for women to celebrate their many-faceted selves and gain confidence to pursue their goals. Yet for various reasons my book manuscript remained in my own bookshelf, never getting published. Until now... the times again call for women to claim their autonomy and gain equality in an overly male-dominated and viciously callous world. I am blessed to find in Xlibris a publisher ready to take on the project with me. I am thrilled to finally see my “Life’s Masterwork” in print. You will find many divergent ideas in these two volumes. No single woman encompasses all that are described, but as you read and recognize these characters in yourselves and your friends, I hope it will help you gain a full appreciation of your own awesome erotic spirit and sacred sexual powers.

Book Sherlock s World

  • Author : Ann K. McClellan
  • Publisher : University of Iowa Press
  • Release : 2018-11-15
  • ISBN : 1609386167
  • Pages : 284 pages

Download or read book Sherlock s World written by Ann K. McClellan and published by University of Iowa Press. This book was released on 2018-11-15 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sherlock Holmes remains more popular than ever some 130 years after the detective first appeared in print. These days, the iconic character’s staying power is due in large part to the success of the recent BBC series Sherlock, which brings the famous sleuth into the twenty-first century. One of the most-watched television series in BBC history, Sherlock is set in contemporary London, where thirtysomething Sherlock and John (no longer fussy old Holmes and Watson), alongside New Scotland Yard, solve crimes with the help of smartphones, texting, online forums, and the internet. In their modernization of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s nineteenth-century world, Sherlock creators Stephen Moffatt and Mark Gatiss make London as much a character of their show as the actors themselves. The highly stylized series has inspired an impassioned fan community in Britain, the U.S., and beyond. Fans create and share their writings, which reimagine the characters in even more dramatic ways than the series can. Interweaving fan fiction studies, world-building, and genre studies, Ann McClellan examines the hit series and the fan fiction it inspires. Using Sherlock to trace the changing face of fan fiction studies, McClellan’s book explores how far fans are willing to go to change the Sherlockian canon while still reinforcing its power and status as the source text. What makes Sherlock fanfic Sherlockian? How does it stay within the canon even while engaging in the wildest reimaginings? Sherlock’s World explores the boundaries between canon, genre, character, and reality through the lenses of fan fiction and world-building. This book promises to be a valuable resource for fan studies scholars, those who write fan fiction, and Sherlock fans alike.

Book Sexual Outlaw Erotic Mystic

Download or read book Sexual Outlaw Erotic Mystic written by Vere Chappell and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sex, Magick, Aleister Crowley, Orgasms, Erotic Dances, Angelic Beings, Revolutionary Activism, Liberation, Persecution, Defiance, and Suicide. Persecuted by Anthony Comstock and his Society for the Suppression of Vice, this turn-of-the-century heroine was also a spiritualist who learned many secrets of high magick through her claimed wedlock to an angelic being. Born in Philadelphia in 1857, Ida Craddock became involved in occultism around the age of thirty. She attended classes at the Theosophical Society and began studying a tremendous amount of materials on various occult subjects. She taught correspondence courses to women and newly married couples to educate them on the sacred nature of sex, maintaining that her explicit knowledge came from her nightly experiences with an angel named Soph. In 1902, she was arrested under New York’s anti-obscenity laws and committed suicide to avoid life in an asylum. Now for the first time, scholar Vere Chappell has compiled the most extensive collection of Craddock’s work including original essays, diary excerpts, and suicide letters--one to her mother and one to the public.
