Download or read book The Politics of State and City Administration written by Glenn Abney and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1986-06-30 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Politics of State and City Administration, Abney and Lauth take a penetrating look at the relationships of state and city administrators to the people with whom they work: legislators, councilors, chief executives, and numerous interest groups seeking to influence administrative decisions and upon whom administrators depend to achieve their objectives. The analysis is based upon information obtained from national surveys of approximately 800 state and 600 city government department heads. The reader of this book will learn, for example, that governors are perceived by their department heads to be more interested in management than in policy leadership, interest groups are viewed as allies rather than enemies of state administrators, and the emergence of professionalism in administration has reduced the ability of mayors to be chief administrators. The Politics of State and City Administration will be of interest to scholars and students of public administration, state and local government, and public policy.

This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experience of the past decade confirms that the solution to infrastructure problems is not merely to expand capacity by making new investments. Much more systematic changes must be undertaken if service delivery is to attain the standards necessary to improve quality of life and allow economic output to expand more rapidly. This paper identifies several broad areas for reform and recommends a series of actions to attain effective service delivery. (Adapté du résumé de l'auteur).

Book Decentralization and Its Implications for Urban Service Delivery

Download or read book Decentralization and Its Implications for Urban Service Delivery written by William Dillinger and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1994 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews efforts to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of urban services delivery in developing countries. It argues that failures in urban service delivery are not merely the result of a lack of technical knowledge on the part of local government staff, but also reflect constraints and perverse incentives confronting local personnel and their political leadership, and these, in turn, are often the inadverten result of problems in the relationship between central and local government. The report views the spread of decentralization as a potentially fortuitous phenomenon. The decentralization now occurring is not a carefully designed sequence of reforms aimed at improving the efficiency of public service delivery ; it appears to be a reluctant and disorderly series of concessions by central governments attempting to maintain political stability. (Adapté du résumé de l'auteur).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rare piece of research on the game of urban services delivery in an Indian metropolis. Assorted City makes an important contribution to urban planning discourses in India by offering an in-depth conceptual and theoretical insight to address theory–practice dichotomy. A unique work on urban services delivery in an Indian city, it narrates how equity and justice are manipulated in the process. It captures generic urban processes in three ways: the questions it raises about planning, the multifaceted methodological perspective it introduces, and the commitment it underlines toward social justice and equity in a democracy. This book explores and exposes the interplay between urban existence and the politics of service delivery.
