Book Servant Leadership

Book excerpt: The dissertation describes and evaluates a ministry project designed to enhance deacons' ministry through servant leadership and spiritual fellowship with congregational members at Easley Union Missionary Baptist Church. The objectives of the project were achieved by conducting two training sessions specifically designed to provide information regarding servant leadership and strategies and techniques for effective communication. The focus of both workshops was servant leadership using Jesus' examples. Servant leadership was stressed as a model for deacons in their ministry practices. In addition to the two training sessions, a spiritual fellowship session with deacons and selected members from the congregation provided an opportunity for interactions among deacons and the congregational members. The spiritual fellowship session was followed by a session of planning for the deacons to facilitate subsequent spiritual fellowship sessions with their respective members. The project's evaluation included feedback from the congregational members, deacons, and reflections by the minister. In general, all of the participants in the ministry project indicated that the objectives of the project were accomplished.
