Book Equilibrium Concentrations of Several Gaseous Species CO CO2 CH4 H2 H2O in Equilibrium with Graphite at Very Low Hydrogen and Oxygen Levels

Download or read book Equilibrium Concentrations of Several Gaseous Species CO CO2 CH4 H2 H2O in Equilibrium with Graphite at Very Low Hydrogen and Oxygen Levels written by David V. Ragone and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equilibrium values of total gaseous carbon (sum of mole fractions of CO, CO2, and CH4) are calculated as a function of total oxygen and total hydrogen in an inert gas for temperatures between 500° and 1500°F. These calculations show that hydrogen can counteract the tendency of oxygen to transport carbon from regions of high temperatures to regions of low temperatures.

Book Investigation of Gas cooled Reactor Safety Problems

Download or read book Investigation of Gas cooled Reactor Safety Problems written by and published by . This book was released on 1961-04 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A review of the safety aspects of gas-cooled power reactors has been made. The survey indicated that the most severe accidents result primariliy from primary system component failures. Such accidents (1) release fission products to the primary coolant and (2) may cause damage to the reactor core. Transients caused by inadvertent reactivity additions are generally minor, since these are limited by strong negative fuel temperature coefficients, large core heat capacities, and the long neutron lifetimes characteristic of most gas-cooled reactors."--Abstract.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 30 of Reviews in Mineralogy introduces in understanding the behavior of magmatic volatiles and their influence on a wide variety of geological phenomena; in doing this it also becomes apparent that there remain many questions outstanding. The range of topics we have tried to cover is broad, going from atomisticscale aspects of volatile solubility mechanisms and attendant effects on melt physical properties, to the chemistry of volcanic gases and the concentrations of volatiles in magmas, to the global geochemical cycles of volatiles. The reader should quickly see that much progress has been made since Bowen voiced his concerns about Maxwell demons, but like much scientific progress, answers to old questions have prompted even greater numbers of new questions. The Voltiles in Magmas course was organized and transpired at the Napa Valley Sheraton Hotel in California, December 2-4, 1994, just prior to the Fall Meetings of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco.

Book Geofluids

Download or read book Geofluids written by Vratislav Hurai and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-05-14 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geofluids: Developments in Microthermometry, Spectroscopy, Thermodynamics, and Stable Isotopes is the definitive source on paleofluids and the migration of hydrocarbons in sedimentary basins—ideal for researchers in oil and gas exploration. There's been a rapid development of new non-destructive analytical methods and interdisciplinary research that makes it difficult to find a single source of content on the subject of geofluids. Geoscience researchers commonly use multiple tools to interpret geologic problems, particularly if the problems involve fluid-rock interaction. This book perfectly combines the techniques of fluid inclusion microthermometry, stable isotope analyses, and various types of spectroscopy, including Raman analysis, to contribute to a thorough approach to research. Through a practical and intuitive step-by-step approach, the authors explain sample preparation, measurements, and the interpretation and analysis of data related to thermodynamics and mineral-fluid equilibria. - Features working examples in each chapter with step-by-step explanations and calculations - Broad range of case studies aid the analytical and experimental data - Includes appendices with equations of state, stable isotope fractionation equations, and Raman identification tables that aid in identification of fluid inclusion minerals - Authored by a team of expert scientists who have more than 60 years of related experience in the field and classroom combined

Book Hydrocarbons for Fuel 75 Years of Materials Research at NBS

Download or read book Hydrocarbons for Fuel 75 Years of Materials Research at NBS written by George Thomson Armstrong and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this historical review the NBS work on hydrocarbons is discussed in terms of the three major classes of natural hydrocarbonaceous fuels: natural gas, petroleum, and coal. The work done on the measurement of properties of the pure components has included measurement of the values of the properties themselves and development of practical and accurate measurement procedures and instruments. In addition, combustion energies, densities, viscosities, vapor pressures, refractive indices, elemental compositions and other parameters have been determined for complex fuel mixtures and correlated to find methods of estimating properties. Extensive standard reference data tables have been compiled and a number of standard reference materials have been developed.

Book Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel

Download or read book Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel written by Randall M. German and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1998-03-31 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive guide to current practices Powder metallurgy processes increasingly dominate the production of iron and steel components for a variety of machines, appliances, automobiles, and tools. These processes yield high-quality precision components, recycle scrap metals into useful powders, and consume less energy than traditional manufacturing methods. Despite the tremendous growth in this area, however, until now there has been no guide on practical issues in the field. Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel fills the need for a fundamental, nonmathematical treatment of this technology. Focusing on the most useful applications and the advantages of different production techniques, this systematic, self-contained volume provides serious help in tackling production problems on the factory floor. It covers the gamut of practical topics, from injection molding and compaction processes to sintering, full-density processes, heat treatments, finishing operations, and the mechanical properties of many products, including die-compacted steels. Written by a leading authority and designer of educational programs for the industry, Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel: Emphasizes current practices and real engineering materials in everyday manufacturing processes Keeps the mathematics simple, boxing the calculations outside the main body of text Includes research articles and trade information from a variety of sources Features numerous pictures and flow diagrams Includes an appendix with an extensive list of definitions This important tutorial for an expanding work force is accessible to scientists and engineers alike, as well as technicians, production supervisors, designers, consultants, and marketing personnel. It is also an excellent textbook for undergraduate and industrial courses.
