Download or read book Combustion Generated Air Pollution written by Ernest Starkman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of notes was assembled as a supplement and guide to a five-day short course presented at the University of California at Berkeley, September 22-26, 1969. The scope of subject matter, while limited to combustion as a source of air pollution, at the same time is intended to give the broadest possible exposure within that area. The spectrum is deliberately wide, ranging from fundamen tals of combustion and combustion reactions through performance of combustion systems and to legal and administrative control. Contributors to this compendium and lecturers in the subject were solicited from academic and public organizations. Most of the authors are from the statewide University of California and the California Department of Public Health. Notable individuals with particular ex pertise, from other institutions, were also invited to contribute. The choice of instructor in each case was based upon a desire to col lect a cross-section of outstanding individuals, each highly qualified technically in his field. These notes reflect the freedom which each author was encouraged to follow in providing supplementary material for his lecture. The staff of Continuing Education in Engineering, Professor Thomas Hazlett and Daphne Stern, deserve commendation for their effective and successful handling of the innumerable details which were encountered. Professors Robert Sawyer and Laurence Caretto are herewith gratefully acknowledged for their support in the seemingly uncountable tasks ne cessary to assemble the entity which is represented.

Download or read book Combustion Waves and Fronts in Flows written by Paul Clavin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-07-28 with total page 723 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion is a fascinating phenomenon coupling complex chemistry to transport mechanisms and nonlinear fluid dynamics. This book provides an up-to-date and comprehensive presentation of the nonlinear dynamics of combustion waves and other non-equilibrium energetic systems. The major advances in this field have resulted from analytical studies of simplified models performed in close relation with carefully controlled laboratory experiments. The key to understanding the complex phenomena is a systematic reduction of the complexity of the basic equations. Focusing on this fundamental approach, the book is split into three parts. Part I provides physical insights for physics-oriented readers, Part II presents detailed technical analysis using perturbation methods for theoreticians, and Part III recalls the necessary background knowledge in physics, chemistry and fluid dynamics. This structure makes the content accessible to newcomers to the physics of unstable fronts in flows, whilst also offering advanced material for scientists who wish to improve their knowledge.

Download or read book Survey of Hydrogen Combustion Properties written by Isadore L. Drell and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This literature survey digest of hydrogen-air combustion fundamentals presents data on flame temperature, burning velocity, quenching distance, flammability limits, ignition energy, flame stability, detonation, spontaneous ignition, and explosion limits. The data are assessed, recommended values are given, and relations among various combustion properties are discussed. New material presented includes: theoretical treatment of variation in spontaneous ignition lag with temperature, pressure, and composition, based on reaction kinetics of hydrogen-air composition range for 0.01 to 100 atmospheres and initial temperatures of 0 degrees to 1400 degrees k.

Download or read book Modeling Explosions and Blast Waves written by K. Ramamurthi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-19 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: b="" The book provides a concise description of the physical processes and mathematical models for explosions and formation of blast waves from explosions. The contents focus on quantitatively determining the energy released in the different types of explosions and the destructive blast waves that are generated. The contribution of flames, detonations and other physical processes to the explosion phenomenon is dealt with in detail. Gaseous and condensed phase explosions are discussed and the yield of explosions with their TNT equivalence is determined. Time scales involved in the explosion process and the scaling procedure are ascertained. Explosions over the ground, in water, and the interaction of explosions with objects are examined. In order to keep the text easily readable, the detailed derivation of the mathematical equations is given in the seven appendices at the end of the book. Case studies of various explosions are investigated and simple problems and their solutions are provided for the different topics to assist the reader in internalizing the explosion process. The book is a useful reference for professionals and academics in aeronautics, mechanical, civil and chemical engineering and for personnel working in explosive manufacture and high-energy materials, armaments, space, defense, and industrial and fire safety.

Book excerpt: This fully revised, industry-standard resource offers practical details on every aspect of the fundamentals necessary for understanding thermal spray technology, from powder all the way to the final part. The second edition is presented in a reader-friendly format that is split into four parts. Part I presents a review of thermal spray coating and its position in the broad field of surface modification technologies. Highlights of combustion and thermal plasmas are given with an expanded treatment of in-flight plasma-particle interactions. The second and third parts deal respectively with an updated presentation of thermal spray technologies and coating formation, including solution and suspension plasma spraying. The last part of the book includes a comparative analysis of different thermal spray processes, which is essential for the optimal selection of the appropriate thermal spray process in a given application. Coverage of system integration has been expanded with the addition of a detailed discussion of online instrumentation and process diagnostics and numerous examples of industrial scale spray booth designs. Attention is also given to coating finishing and health and safety issues.
