Book Non Linear Differential Equations

Download or read book Non Linear Differential Equations written by G. Sansone and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Series of Monographs in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Volume 67: Non-Linear Differential Equations, Revised Edition focuses on the analysis of the phase portrait of two-dimensional autonomous systems; qualitative methods used in finding periodic solutions in periodic systems; and study of asymptotic properties. The book first discusses general theorems about solutions of differential systems. Periodic solutions, autonomous systems, and integral curves are explained. The text explains the singularities of Briot-Bouquet theory. The selection takes a look at plane autonomous systems. Topics include limiting sets, plane cycles, isolated singular points, index, and the torus as phase space. The text also examines autonomous plane systems with perturbations and autonomous and non-autonomous systems with one degree of freedom. The book also tackles linear systems. Reducible systems, periodic solutions, and linear periodic systems are considered. The book is a vital source of information for readers interested in applied mathematics.

Book The Global Theory of Minimal Surfaces in Flat Spaces

Download or read book The Global Theory of Minimal Surfaces in Flat Spaces written by W.H. III Meeks and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-10-11 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second half of the twentieth century the global theory of minimal surface in flat space had an unexpected and rapid blossoming. Some of the classical problems were solved and new classes of minimal surfaces found. Minimal surfaces are now studied from several different viewpoints using methods and techniques from analysis (real and complex), topology and geometry. In this lecture course, Meeks, Ros and Rosenberg, three of the main architects of the modern edifice, present some of the more recent methods and developments of the theory. The topics include moduli, asymptotic geometry and surfaces of constant mean curvature in the hyperbolic space.

Book Topics in Spatial Stochastic Processes

Download or read book Topics in Spatial Stochastic Processes written by Vincenzo Capasso and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of stochastic processes indexed by a partially ordered set has been the subject of much research over the past twenty years. The objective of this CIME International Summer School was to bring to a large audience of young probabilists the general theory of spatial processes, including the theory of set-indexed martingales and to present the different branches of applications of this theory, including stochastic geometry, spatial statistics, empirical processes, spatial estimators and survival analysis. This theory has a broad variety of applications in environmental sciences, social sciences, structure of material and image analysis. In this volume, the reader will find different approaches which foster the development of tools to modelling the spatial aspects of stochastic problems.

Book Enumerative Invariants in Algebraic Geometry and String Theory

Download or read book Enumerative Invariants in Algebraic Geometry and String Theory written by Marcos Marino and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-22 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting in the middle of the 80s, there has been a growing and fruitful interaction between algebraic geometry and certain areas of theoretical high-energy physics, especially the various versions of string theory. Physical heuristics have provided inspiration for new mathematical definitions (such as that of Gromov-Witten invariants) leading in turn to the solution of problems in enumerative geometry. Conversely, the availability of mathematically rigorous definitions and theorems has benefited the physics research by providing the required evidence in fields where experimental testing seems problematic. The aim of this volume, a result of the CIME Summer School held in Cetraro, Italy, in 2005, is to cover part of the most recent and interesting findings in this subject.

Book Hyperbolic Systems of Balance Laws

Download or read book Hyperbolic Systems of Balance Laws written by Alberto Bressan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-05-26 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume includes four lecture courses by Bressan, Serre, Zumbrun and Williams and a Tutorial by Bressan on the Center Manifold Theorem. Bressan introduces the vanishing viscosity approach and clearly explains the building blocks of the theory. Serre focuses on existence and stability for discrete shock profiles. The lectures by Williams and Zumbrun deal with the stability of multidimensional fronts.

Book Nonlinear Optimization

Download or read book Nonlinear Optimization written by Immanuel M. Bomze and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-03-17 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects the expanded notes of four series of lectures given on the occasion of the CIME course on Nonlinear Optimization held in Cetraro, Italy, from July 1 to 7, 2007. The Nonlinear Optimization problem of main concern here is the problem n of determining a vector of decision variables x ? R that minimizes (ma- n mizes) an objective function f(·): R ? R,when x is restricted to belong n to some feasible setF? R , usually described by a set of equality and - n n m equality constraints: F = {x ? R : h(x)=0,h(·): R ? R ; g(x) ? 0, n p g(·): R ? R }; of course it is intended that at least one of the functions f,h,g is nonlinear. Although the problem canbe stated in verysimpleterms, its solution may result very di?cult due to the analytical properties of the functions involved and/or to the number n,m,p of variables and constraints. On the other hand, the problem has been recognized to be of main relevance in engineering, economics, and other applied sciences, so that a great lot of e?ort has been devoted to develop methods and algorithms able to solve the problem even in its more di?cult and large instances. The lectures have been given by eminent scholars, who contributed to a great extent to the development of Nonlinear Optimization theory, methods and algorithms. Namely, they are: – Professor Immanuel M.
