Book Absolute Equation of State Measurements of Shocked Liquid Deuterium Up to 200 GPa 2 Mbar

Download or read book Absolute Equation of State Measurements of Shocked Liquid Deuterium Up to 200 GPa 2 Mbar written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results of the first measurements of density, shock speed and particle speed in compressed liquid deuterium at pressures in excess in 1 Mbar. We have performed equation of state (EOS) measurements on the principal Hugoniot of liquid deuterium from 0.2 to 2 Mbar. We employ high-resolution radiography to simultaneously measure the compression of the sample. We are also attempting to measure the color temperature of the shocked D2. Key to this effort is the development and implementation of interferometric methods in order to carefully characterized the profile and steadiness of the shock and the level of preheat in the samples. These experiments allow us to differentiate between the accepted EOS model for D2 and a new model which included the effects of molecular dissociation on the EOS.

Book Calculation of Shock Hugoniot Curves of Precompressed Liquid Deuterium

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Path integral Monte Carlo simulations have been used to study deuterium at high pressure and temperature. The equation of state has been derived in the temperature and density region of 10,000 ≤ T ≤ 1,000,000 and 0.6 ≤ [rho] ≤ 2.5 g cm−3. A series of shock Hugoniot curves is computed for different initial compressions in order to compare with current and future shock wave experiments using liquid deuterium samples precompressed in diamond anvil cells.

Book Thermodynamics And Equations Of State For Matter From Ideal Gas To Quark gluon Plasma

Download or read book Thermodynamics And Equations Of State For Matter From Ideal Gas To Quark gluon Plasma written by Vladimr E Fortov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-03-24 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph presents a comparative analysis of different thermodynamic models of the equations of state. The basic ideological premises of the theoretical methods and the experiment are considered. The principal attention is on the description of states that are of greatest interest for the physics of high energy concentrations which are either already attained or can be reached in the near future in controlled terrestrial conditions, or are realized in astrophysical objects at different stages of their evolution. Ultra-extreme astrophysical and nuclear-physical applications are also analyzed where the thermodynamics of matter is affected substantially by relativism, high-power gravitational and magnetic fields, thermal radiation, transformation of nuclear particles, nucleon neutronization, and quark deconfinement. The book is intended for a wide range of specialists engaged in the study of the equations of state of matter and high energy density physics, as well as for senior students and postgraduates.

Book High Pressure Shock Compression of Solids VII

Download or read book High Pressure Shock Compression of Solids VII written by Vladimir E. Fortov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting some of the most recent results of Russian research into shock compression, as well as historical overviews of the Russian research programs into shock compression, this volume will provide Western researchers with many novel ideas and points of view. The chapters in this volume are written by leading Russian specialists various fields of high-pressure physics and form accounts of the main researches on the behavior of matter under shock-wave interaction. The experimental portions contain results of studies of shock compression of metals to high and ultra-high pressure, shock initiation of polymorphic transformations, strength, fracture and fragmentation under shock compression, and detonation of condensed explosives. There are also chapters on theoretical investigations of shock-wave compression and plasma states in regimes of high-pressure and high- temperature. The topics of the book are of interest to scientists and engineers concerned with questions of material behavior under impulsive loading and to the equation of state of matter. Application is to questions of high-speed impact, inner composition of planets, verification of model representations of material behavior under extreme 1oading conditions, syntheses of new materials, development of new technologies for material processing, etc. Russian research differs from much of the Western work in that it has traditionally been wider-ranging and more directed to extremes of response than to precise characterization of specific materials and effects. Western scientists could expect to benefit from the perspective gained from close knowledge of the Russian work.

Book Phase Transformations of Elements Under High Pressure

Download or read book Phase Transformations of Elements Under High Pressure written by E. Yu Tonkov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As laboratories replace heavy hydraulic presses and bulky high-pressure chambers with miniature diamond anvils, traditional heaters with laser heating, and continue to improve methods of shock compression, there has been considerable new data obtained from the high-pressure, high-temperature modification of pure elements. The dense metallic modification of elements shows the potential for achieving superconductivity akin to theoretical predictions. Phase Transformations of Elements Under High Pressure contains the latest theoretical and experimental information on nearly 100 elements, including first-and second-phase transitions, melting lines, crystal structures of stable and metastable phases, stability of polymorphic modifications, and other useful properties and data. It emphasizes features such as changes in the liquid state, amorphization, and metallization, and provides temperature-pressure diagrams for every element. The book also describes the transitions of polymeric forms of fullerene, crystal modifications of elements stable under high pressures, and provides data that confirms their superconducting and magnetic properties. This handbook will be a lasting reference for scientists in a broad range of disciplines, including solid-state physics, chemistry, crystallography, mineralogy, and materials science.

Book Physics of Strongly Coupled Plasma

Download or read book Physics of Strongly Coupled Plasma written by Vladimir Fortov and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2006-11-09 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to the physics of plasma at high density, which has been compressed so strongly that the effects of interparticle interactions and non-ideality govern its behavior. Interest in this non-traditional plasma has been generated in recent years when states of matter with high concentration of energy became accessible experimentally as the basis of modern technologies and facilities. The greatest part of the matter in the Universe is in this exotic state. In this book, the methods of generation and diagnostics of strongly coupled plasmas are presented, along with the main theoretical methods and experimental results on thermodynamical, kinetic and optical properties. Particular attention is given to fast developing modern directions of strongly coupled plasma physics such as metallization of dielectrics and dielectrization of metals, non-neutral plasmas, dusty plasmas and their crystallization. The book is written for physicists and astrophysicists, engineers, and material scientists.

Book Short Wavelength Laboratory Sources

Download or read book Short Wavelength Laboratory Sources written by Alan Michette and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2014-12-15 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our ability to manipulate short wavelength radiation (0.01-100nm, equivalent to 120keV-12eV) has increased significantly over the last three decades. This has lead to major advances in applications in a wide range of disciplines such as: the life and medical sciences, including cancer-related studies; environmental science, including studies of pollution and its effects; archaeology and other cultural heritage disciplines; and materials science. Although expansion in application areas is due largely to modern synchrotron sources, many applications will not become widespread, and therefore routinely available as analytical tools, if they are confined to synchrotrons. This is because synchrotrons require enormous capital and infrastructure costs and are often, of necessity, national or international facilities. This seriously limits their scope for applications in research and analysis, in both academia and industry. How many universities, research institutes or even industrial laboratories would have electron microscopes if electron sources cost ú100M or more Hence the need to develop bright but small and (relatively) cheap x-ray sources, not to replace synchrotrons but to complement them. Written by a distinguished team of international authors this exemplary new handbook is based on the COST Action MP0601: Short Wavelength Laboratory Sources. The contents are divided into five main sections. The introductory section provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of radiation, generation mechanisms and short wavelength laboratory sources. The middle sections focus on modelling and simulation, source development: improvement and characterisation and integrated systems: sources, optics and detectors. The final section looks at recent applications.
