Download or read book Engendering the State written by Lynn Savery and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why have states in general been slower to incorporate the international diffusion of women’s human rights norms domestically than other human rights norms and why has the diffusion of these norms varied so greatly between states? Why are some states more responsive and exert more effort than others to comply with these norms? Engendering the State explains these key issues and argues that the gender biased identity of many states represents the most significant barrier to diffusion. It also explores how particular norms have diffused into certain states at specific points in time, as a consequence of international and domestic pressure. The author: addresses the limitations of existing explanations of international norms case studies of Germany, Spain, Japan and India, which provide a new perspective on comparative analysis of Europe and Asia alternative arguments on cross-national variation and the influence of international norms of sexual discrimination the theoretical and practical implications of the argument. This book was released on 2022-03-09 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Health Programmes and Empowerment of Rural Women: An Evaluation with special reference to District Almora, Uttarakhand” deals with evidence-based findings that emerge directly from the studies carried out in field. Rural women of Uttarakhand are the backbone of the social, economic and cultural structure of the State. They not only look after the young and the old in the household, but also carry out a number of chores and are consistently put to arduous multi-tasking. Of late, concern for their health, has become one of the focal points in the policy arena. It is also well known that there is an intrinsic relationship between women’s health and their empowerment. In-depth analysis resulting from field study of the impact of different health programmes for women launched by the government has been presented in the book. The impact of programmes which have bearing on women's health, such as NRHM (now NHM), JSY, JSSK, VHND, RCH, ARSH, RBSK and immunisation programmes have been covered in detail. Conclusions are drawn based on data collected from field. The analysis of this data provides a deep insight into the true picture of the health programmes in hill villages. The book presents an in-depth study and field reality on women-health related issues and impact of different government programmes. A methodology of calculating Health Empowerment Index (HEI) for rural women has also been devised. The endeavour has been to evaluate the impact of health schemes on rural women in the study area. It is expected that the book would generate interest amongst the policy makers, social scientists, scholars and people working in the field of development planning with special concern for empowerment of rural women and also provide impetus to further studies in the area.

Download or read book The Europeanization of Turkish Public Policies written by Aylin Güney and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-09-16 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turkey’s candidacy for membership of the European Union has had mixed effects on its public policies. The initial degree of cohesion between EU and Turkish national policies, practices and institutions has varied by the policy field in question, leading to a complex amalgam of fit and misfit between the two actors. Their interaction in different policy areas has had direct influence both on Turkey’s accession to the EU and its own national reform process. With accession negotiations stalled and Turkey’s relationship with the EU increasingly tenuous, it is vital to take stock of the extent to which Turkey and the EU are aligned in key policy areas. The Europeanization of Turkish Public Policies: A Scorecard is the first comprehensive work focusing on the impact of the EU accession process upon Turkey’s public policies between 1999 and 2014. Complementing the authors’ earlier volume Europeanization of Turkey: Polity and Politics, it brings together leading specialists to provide key analyses of the impact of Europeanization on specific areas of Turkey’s public policy. Each chapter applies a core analytical framework to examine a separate policy field, resulting in a consistent and comprehensive volume on Turkey-EU relations. With its focused structure and extensive coverage, concluding with a scorecard enabling informed assessment of the impact of Europeanization on Turkey’s public policy areas, this book provides a one-stop resource for scholars and students alike. A timely and informed assessment of the dynamics and outcome of the Europeanization of an EU candidate country’s major public policy areas, this book represents an essential resource for those interested in EU-Turkey relations, the effects of Europeanization on Turkey, and Turkish politics.
Download or read book Equal Parenthood and Social Policy written by Linda Haas and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1992-07-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sweden is the only society in the world that has as an official goal the equal participation of fathers and mothers in childcare. Equal Parenthood and Social Policy analyzes the government program which best symbolizes this commitment to equal parenthood—parental leave. With return to one's original job being assured, a Swedish couple has twelve months to divide between them so that one parent can stay home to care for their new offspring. While a few other countries, mostly in Scandinavia, have paid parental leave available to fathers, Sweden's program is the oldest and most generous, as well as the one most closely committed to realizing complete equality between men and women in every sphere of social life. In analyzing this unique social program, Haas describes the social, political, and economic circumstances which led Sweden to take such a revolutionary stance on the issue of shared parenthood. Haas also discusses the extent to which Swedish fathers take advantage of their right to parental leave, barriers to fathers' participation, and fathers' experiences while on leave, along with the effects that leavetaking has on mothers' and fathers' later labor market involvement and participation in childcare. This study of the Swedish program raises important questions about future prospects for equal parenthood in Sweden and other industrial societies, and, more significantly, about the potential effectiveness of social policy for bringing about the end of such a cultural universal as women's responsibility for infants.
