Book Equality and Diversity Embedding Equality and Diversity into a Postgraduate Management Programme for International Students a case study

Download or read book Equality and Diversity Embedding Equality and Diversity into a Postgraduate Management Programme for International Students a case study written by Nabeel Zaidi and published by Education and Training Consultants Ltd. This book was released on 2015-03-23 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication originally formed part of a Master’s degree dissertation completed in 2011 by Nabeel. Research was undertaken over a period of two years at a Further Education college and a small private college where Nabeel delivered a level 7 post-graduate management programme accredited by a leading UK awarding organisation. A range of curriculum-level strategies were deployed by Nabeel and his colleagues in order to embed equality and diversity and reduce barriers to learning for international students undertaking the programme. These had a positive pedagogical and performance-related impact. The findings will be of particular interest to teachers and managers responsible for undergraduate, post-graduate and professional programmes being delivered to international students or to learners whose first language is not English, as well as those considering curriculum-level and progression strategies for business and management programmes at level three and above. The research may also provide useful insight to managers and teachers of other subject areas which are internally assessed. The findings are correct as at February 2011. Minor updates have been made to the case study, as well as selective editing and certain stakeholders have been anonymised for ethical reasons. Although the national landscape may have changed since 2011, the strategies applied remain valid and independent of such context. Research questions considered in this dissertation: What constitutes embedding of Equality and Diversity at curriculum level? What are the likely barriers to student learning / achievement on the PGDMS (Level 7 Management) programme? What elements should be prioritised for embedding at curriculum level in order to improve E & D for Blue College PGDMS (Level 7 Management) students? This publication builds on and incorporates the literature review published and entitled: Equality and Diversity: Embedding Equality and Diversity into the Curriculum - a literature review.

This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: RESEARCH, PLAN, DELIVER AND EVALUATE YOUR MICRO-TEACH LIKE A SEASONED PROFESSIONAL. THIS TEXTBOOK WILL HELP YOU TO PASS YOUR MICRO-TEACH FIRST TIME AND TO PREPARE YOUR MICRO-TEACH FOR TEACHING-RELATED JOB INTERVIEWS. Micro-teaching is an essential element of the Award in Education and Training (AET), forming part of the unit entitled: Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training. The topic is often covered as a short chapter in most textbooks and stops short of providing a step-by-step practical guide or providing useful guidance for preparing for teaching-related interviews, where a micro-teach session is virtually guaranteed as part of the interview and selection process. An effective micro-teach is well researched, takes account of the audience’s prior learning, knowledge and experience wherever possible, is meticulously planned, effectively practiced and delivered with confidence. It is then thoroughly evaluated and improvements and enhancements are carefully planned and executed before a future micro-teach or a lesson is delivered. This can be viewed as a form of continuous quality improvement. This textbook is aligned to recent changes in the further education and skills sector and shows you how to use such changes to inform your micro-teach research, planning and delivery and in this respect be on par with if not ahead of other candidates at interview. This textbook can be used by itself or as a complementary publication to the following textbooks by the same author: Achieving your Award in Education and Training: The Comprehensive Course Companion Or Achieving your Award in Education and Training: The Comprehensive Course Companion (Special Edition) The principal benefits of this textbook to the reader are as follows: It is written by an experienced practitioner with extensive experience of educational management, delivery, consultancy, quality assurance and of recruiting, appointing and mentoring lecturers in the public and private sectors; It adopts a very practical and systematic approach to the topic, reflecting current practice in the sector; It is clearly written and easy to understand, with lots of examples; It fully addresses each of the related unit learning outcomes and assessment criteria in a systematic way; It places the micro-teach in the context of all three units of the AET course and shows the inter-connections between certain assessment criteria, which will provide you with a more holistic view of the course; It is written for those undertaking a micro-teach as part of their course and for those preparing for a lecturing, teaching or training post; It shows you how to take account of relevant parts of the documents listed below when researching, planning and delivering your micro-teach: Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training – England Special educational needs and disability (SEND) code of practice 0 to 25 years Ofsted Common Inspection Framework and related inspectors’ handbook (for inspections from September 2015) Full lesson planning is also considered in the textbook, with the micro-teach session embedded in the full lesson plan for the purposes of completeness. This should prove to be particularly useful for teaching related job interviews This textbook is streamlined, thereby allowing you to make more efficient use of your time to learn, practice and develop your micro-teaching skills.

Book Diversity Management in the UK

Download or read book Diversity Management in the UK written by Anne-marie Greene and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-02-25 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive and critical review of the global scholarly literature on diversity, this book presents findings from original UK-based research involving in-depth organizational case studies, interviews, observation and documentary data from over fifty organizations. Analyzing the findings from the perspective of key stakeholder groups - diversity practitioners, line-managers, trade union equality officers, workplace trade union representatives and employees, it addresses a range of questions, including: How is the diversity concept developing in the UK? Has the UK deconstructed and reconstructed the diversity concept to fit with the legal, social and economic context of UK organizations? How are organizations in the public and private sectors responding in practical terms to the diversity concept? What is the legacy of the traditional equal opportunity concept? What are the experiences of different organizational stakeholders of diversity management? Whose interests does diversity management serve? Looking at many of the weaknesses associated with more traditional equal opportunity policy approaches, this book is excellent reading for all students of international business, entrepreneurship and small businesses.

Book Diversity in the Workplace

Download or read book Diversity in the Workplace written by Stefan Gröschl and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most regions and countries in the world are experiencing increasingly diverse populations and labour markets. While the causes may vary, the challenges businesses face due to a heightened awareness of this diversity are often similar. Internally, organisations promote diversity and manage increasingly heterogeneous workforces, accommodate and integrate employees with different value and belief systems, and combat a range of different forms of discrimination with organisational and also societal consequences. Externally, organisations have to manage demands from government, consumer, and lobbying sources for the implementation of anti-discrimination policies and laws. This has generated demand for appropriate higher level teaching programmes and for more diversity-focused research. Diversity in the Workplace responds to the increasing social and political debate and interest in diversity throughout Europe. The contributors discuss the concept of diversity in different social and legal contexts and from the perspectives of different academic disciplines including sociology, anthropology, psychology, philosophy and organizational theory. The book includes a European view and the makings of a conceptual framework to literature on diversity that hitherto has tended to be US orientated and overwhelmingly practice focused. It will stimulate fruitful exchanges of ideas about different approaches to the challenges faced by businesses and organisations of all kinds. With chapters by authors involved in research into diversity issues at leading academic institutions across Europe, this book offers much that will interest academics, researchers and higher level students, as well as practitioners wanting to understand managing workforce diversity; affirmative action programmes; and anti-discriminatory policy and practice in a wider context.

Book Building an Inclusive Organization

Download or read book Building an Inclusive Organization written by Stephen Frost and published by Kogan Page Publishers. This book was released on 2019-02-03 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FINALIST: Business Book Awards 2020 - An Exceptional Book That Promotes Diversity Category LONGLISTED: CMI Management Book of the Year 2020 - Society Transformed Category A diverse workforce is a business imperative. Without it, companies are made up of employees who come from the same background and have the same skills and, therefore, the same blind spots. A diverse workforce brings together different strengths, a variety of experiences, a huge breadth of knowledge and a wealth of creative problem-solving techniques. However, in order to leverage the benefits of this diverse workforce, businesses must be inclusive. Inclusion ensures that employees feel supported, are treated fairly and are therefore happier, more engaged and more productive. Building an Inclusive Organization is a practical guide to creating an environment of real inclusion. It explains how to remove unconscious bias from company processes including recruitment and selection, how to make the case for diversity and inclusion to all stakeholders and how to embed inclusion into an organization's culture and overall business strategy. Packed with case studies from organizations including KPMG, Uber, Salesforce, Harvard University and the UK National Health Service (NHS), Building an Inclusive Organization shows how to implement robust processes and policies to foster diversity and inclusion in organizations of any size, and in all sectors, including the creative industry, finance, tech, and academia and foundations. Guidance and advice is also provided on how to use 'nudges' to change behaviours and overcome bias, how to achieve transparency and accountability, and how to measure, review and evaluate inclusion.

This new edition has been extensively revised and up-dated to incorporate new conceptual, theoretical and empirical work now available in this growing subject area.

Book What are the pros and cons of a business case approach to diversity management

Download or read book What are the pros and cons of a business case approach to diversity management written by Luke Gipson and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2014-02-21 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2013 in the subject Leadership and Human Resources - Miscellaneous, grade: 62.0, University of Kent, language: English, abstract: In 1950 the global human population was 2.5 billion, in 2013 it has increased to 7.2 billion and by 2050 the UN predict it will reach 9.6 billion (The Economist , 2013). Shared with the statistic that since 2011, 52.1% (United Nations, 2012) of humans live in an urban area, highlighting the need for an increased and evolved ability to manage diversity. This global trend has created the most diverse workforce in modern times, generating pressure for companies, institutions and governments to implement practices which recruit, train, promote and retain individuals within the workplace (Bratton and Gold 2012; Kirton and Greene 2010). The strategic management of diversity in the workforce will be further discussed using a three stage approach, in order to fully analyse the pros and cons of a business case approach to diversity management. The first stage will have two discussion points; firstly defining diversity to create a common understanding of the topic. Secondly it’s important to distinguish the difference between the terms of equal opportunity and diversity management, exploring how they have evolved from academic and practical perspectives. The second stage will focus on diversity management with particular emphasis on analysing the pros and cons of a business case approach. This critique will be supported by theories and contemporary resources to highlight the impact this approach can have on the stakeholders involved. The third stage will consider the implementation and industry type. This will highlight the limitation that by splitting diversity into different case types rather than focusing on an inclusive strategy causes fragmentation rather than concentrating on the individual contribution.

Book Diversity and Equality at Work Opportunities and Challenges

Download or read book Diversity and Equality at Work Opportunities and Challenges written by Mercy Njiru and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-02-12 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, , language: English, abstract: This paper defines diversity and equality in the context of workplace and describes associated opportunities and challenges. The two aspects of equality and diversity in the workplace are multifaceted and they include more than just embracing the dissimilarities amongst individuals and the equality elements protecting particular individuals from racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, disability, religion, gender, and age factors. Diversity in the workplace refers to recognizing, understanding, consenting, appreciating, and celebrating the dissimilarities amongst individuals with respect to their age, social class, culture, sex, capability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and religion. Globalization is always advancing, thus requiring more collaboration and communication among individuals from various beliefs, cultures, and backgrounds than before. Currently, individuals do not live and work in a parochial market; instead, they are part of a global economy that is facing competition from about every continent. Thus, organizations require diversity in order to become more innovative and receptive to change. According to Esty, Richard, and Marcie (1995), exploiting and making the most out of diversity in the workplace has become an imperative issue for organizational management today. Equality in the workplace is about impartiality or fairness and giving every individual a chance to participate in organizational development, and the opportunity to accomplish their potential. The Society for Human Resource Management (1998) holds that equality comes about through eliminating prejudice and discrimination. Equality reinforces accomplishment in the workplace since it goes further than just providing equal opportunities for all. It includes a promise to providing every individual with services that are of equal value to all, and understanding that this could mean providing different services to different individuals in order to accommodate their diverse needs.
