Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of deep levels in semiconductors has seen considerable growth in recent years. Many new techniques have become available for investigating both the electronic properties of deep levels and the chemical nature of the defects from which they arise. This increasing interest has been stimulated by the importance of the subject to device technology, in particular those microwave and opto-electronic devices made from GaAs, InP and their alloys. While previous conferences have covered specialist areas of deep level technology, the meeting described here was arranged to draw together workers from these separate fields of study. The following papers reflect the breadth of interests represented at the conference. For the sake of uniformity we have chosen the English alternative where an American expression has been used. We have also sought to improve grammar, sometimes without the approval of the author in the interests of rapid publication. The Editor wishes to thank the referees for their ready advice at all stages, Paul Jay who helped with many of the editorial duties and Muriel Howes and Lorraine Jones for rapid and accurate typing.

Download or read book Heterojunctions and Metal Semiconductor Junctions written by A.G. Milnes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heterojunctions and Metal-Semiconductor Junctions discusses semiconductor-semiconductor heterojunctions and metal-semiconductor heterojunctions, which are of significant practical importance today and also of considerable scientific interest, with worthwhile problems still to be explored and understood. Many classes of heterojunctions are believed to have new and valuable applications. Although some aspects of heterojunction behavior remain areas for continued scientific and technological study, the main outlines of the subject are clear. This book comprises nine chapters, and begins with an introduction to semiconductor heterojunctions. Succeeding chapters then discuss semiconductor p-n heterojunction models and diode behavior; heterojunction transistors; isotype (n-n, p-p) heterojunctions; optical properties of heterojunctions and heterojunction lasers; metal-semiconductor barriers; metal-semiconductor junction behavior; high yield photoemissive cathodes; and fabrication of heterojunctions. This book will be of interest to practitioners in the fields of applied physics.
Download or read book Different Types of Field Effect Transistors written by Momčilo Pejović and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-06-07 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1959, Atalla and Kahng at Bell Labs produced the first successful field-effect transistor (FET), which had been long anticipated by other researchers by overcoming the "surface states" that blocked electric fields from penetrating into the semiconductor material. Very quickly, they became the fundamental basis of digital electronic circuits. Up to this point, there are more than 20 different types of field-effect transistors that are incorporated in various applications found in everyday's life. Based on this fact, this book was designed to overview some of the concepts regarding FETs that are currently used as well as some concepts that are still being developed.

Download or read book Silicon Epitaxy written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-09-26 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its inception in 1966, the series of numbered volumes known as Semiconductors and Semimetals has distinguished itself through the careful selection of well-known authors, editors, and contributors. The Willardson and Beer series, as it is widely known, has succeeded in producing numerous landmark volumes and chapters. Not only did many of these volumes make an impact at the time of their publication, but they continue to be well-cited years after their original release. Recently, Professor Eicke R. Weber of the University of California at Berkeley joined as a co-editor of the series. Professor Weber, a well-known expert in the field of semiconductor materials, will further contribute to continuing the series' tradition of publishing timely, highly relevant, and long-impacting volumes. Some of the recent volumes, such as Hydrogen in Semiconductors, Imperfections in III/V Materials, Epitaxial Microstructures, High-Speed Heterostructure Devices, Oxygen in Silicon, and others promise that this tradition will be maintained and even expanded.

Download or read book MICROWAVE DEVICES AND CIRCUIT DESIGN written by GANESH PRASAD SRIVASTAVA and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook presents a unified treatment of theory, analysis and design of microwave devices and circuits. It is designed to address the needs of undergraduate students of electronics and communi-cation engineering for a course in microwave engineering as well as those of the students pursuing M.Sc. courses in electronics science. The main objective is to provide students with a thorough under-standing of microwave devices and circuits, and to acquaint them with some of the methods used in circuit analysis and design. Several types of planar transmission lines such as stripline, microstrip, slot line and a few other structures have been explained. The important concepts of scattering matrix and Smith chart related to design problems have been discussed in detail. The performance and geometry of microwave transistors-both bipolar and field effect-have been analysed. Microwave passive components such as couplers, power dividers, attenuators, phase shifters and circulators have been comprehensively dealt with. Finally, the analysis and design aspects of microwave transistor amplifiers and oscillators are presented using the scattering parameters technique. Numerous solved problems and chapter-end questions are included for practice and reinforcement of the concepts.
Download or read book Molecular Beam Epitaxy written by Robin F.C. Farrow and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-12-31 with total page 795 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, the editor and contributors describe the use of molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) for a range of key materials systems that are of interest for both technological and fundamental reasons. Prior books on MBE have provided an introduction to the basic concepts and techniques of MBE and emphasize growth and characterization of GaAs-based structures. The aim in this book is somewhat different; it is to demonstrate the versatility of the technique by showing how it can be utilized to prepare and explore a range of distinct and diverse materials. For each of these materials systems MBE has played a key role both in their development and application to devices.
Download or read book Molecular Beam Epitaxy written by Mohamed Henini and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-12-31 with total page 745 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multi-contributor handbook discusses Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE), an epitaxial deposition technique which involves laying down layers of materials with atomic thicknesses on to substrates. It summarizes MBE research and application in epitaxial growth with close discussion and a 'how to' on processing molecular or atomic beams that occur on a surface of a heated crystalline substrate in a vacuum.MBE has expanded in importance over the past thirty years (in terms of unique authors, papers and conferences) from a pure research domain into commercial applications (prototype device structures and more at the advanced research stage). MBE is important because it enables new device phenomena and facilitates the production of multiple layered structures with extremely fine dimensional and compositional control. The techniques can be deployed wherever precise thin-film devices with enhanced and unique properties for computing, optics or photonics are required. This book covers the advances made by MBE both in research and mass production of electronic and optoelectronic devices. It includes new semiconductor materials, new device structures which are commercially available, and many more which are at the advanced research stage. - Condenses fundamental science of MBE into a modern reference, speeding up literature review - Discusses new materials, novel applications and new device structures, grounding current commercial applications with modern understanding in industry and research - Coverage of MBE as mass production epitaxial technology enhances processing efficiency and throughput for semiconductor industry and nanostructured semiconductor materials research community
