Download or read book Angelic Renegades and Rephaim Giants written by Dennis L. Siluk and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-01-16 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are going into a world very few people have entered. And if they have, there stories have not been told. And imparticular, not this one. These beings are called the Watchers, angelic renegades. The Forbidden Ones. The Shinning Ones. Serpents of Old. The ancient dictators of the world. They have cursed God, to have man worship them. Some were cast to the abyss thousands of years ago; others into silence. The author takes you into this vortex of images and sounds. He meets these blood hungrey beings. They have no shame. They will plant seeds for mankind to breed such humans like Nimrod of old, Nero, Hitler, Stalin, Saddam Hussein, bin Laden, and the rest of their kind. They have done more to mankind then he knows. They feed their unnatural desires with human women. They will teach mankind magic, war, astrolgoy, and women how to paint their faces. Their children will become giants. And they will walk the earth and kill at will, then parish in the sands of time. One of the Watchers may return by request of the coming world dicttor. He is the one the author meets, just before Armageddon. Dramatic prophetic events are also wedged into this small book. May God be on your side my friend. Say a prayer before reading it, for it may be difficult to read otherwise, for Satan holds no claim to liking such things written, nor read; his angelic friends neither.

Book When Money Grew on Trees

Download or read book When Money Grew on Trees written by Greg Gordon and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2014-04-02 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in the timber colony of New Brunswick, Maine, in 1848, Andrew Benoni Hammond got off to an inauspicious start as a teenage lumberjack. By his death in 1934, Hammond had built an empire of wood that stretched from Puget Sound to Arizona—and in the process had reshaped the American West and the nation’s way of doing business. When Money Grew on Trees follows Hammond from the rough-and-tumble world of mid-nineteenth-century New Brunswick to frontier Montana and the forests of Northern California—from lowly lumberjack to unrivaled timber baron. Although he began his career as a pioneer entrepreneur, Hammond, unlike many of his associates, successfully negotiated the transition to corporate businessman. Against the backdrop of western expansion and nation-building, his life dramatically demonstrates how individuals—more than the impersonal forces of political economy—shaped capitalism in this country, and in doing so, transformed the forests of the West from functioning natural ecosystems into industrial landscapes. In revealing Hammond’s instrumental role in converting the nation’s public domain into private wealth, historian Greg Gordon also shows how the struggle over natural resources gave rise to the two most pervasive forces in modern American life: the federal government and the modern corporation. Combining environmental, labor, and business history with biography, When Money Grew on Trees challenges the conventional view that the development and exploitation of the western United States was dictated from the East Coast. The West, Gordon suggests, was perfectly capable of exploiting itself, and in his book we see how Hammond and other regional entrepreneurs dammed rivers, logged forests, and leveled mountains in just a few decades. Hammond and his like also built cities, towns, and a vast transportation network of steamships and railroads to export natural resources and import manufactured goods. In short, they established much of the modern American state and economy.

Book On the Shoulders of Giants

Download or read book On the Shoulders of Giants written by Robert K. Merton and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1993-05-15 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With playfulness and a large dose of wit, Robert Merton traces the origin of Newton's aphorism, "If I have seen farther, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." Using as a model the discursive and digressive style of Sterne's Tristram Shandy, Merton presents a whimsical yet scholarly work which deals with the questions of creativity, tradition, plagiarism, the transmission of knowledge, and the concept of progress. "This book is the delightful apotheosis of donmanship: Merton parodies scholarliness while being faultlessly scholarly; he scourges pedantry while brandishing his own abstruse learning on every page. The most recondite and obscure scholarly squabbles are transmuted into the material of comedy as the ostensible subject is shouldered to one side by yet another hobby horse from Merton's densely populated stable. He has created a jeu d'esprit which is profoundly suggestive both in detail and as a whole."—Sean French, Times Literary Supplement

Book Cut These Words into My Stone

Download or read book Cut These Words into My Stone written by and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2013-01-31 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lively ancient epitaphs in this bilingual collection fit together like small mosaic tiles, forming a vivid portrait of Greek society. Cut These Words into My Stone offers evidence that ancient Greek life was not only celebrated in great heroic epics, but was also commemorated in hundreds of artfully composed verse epitaphs. They have been preserved in anthologies and gleaned from weathered headstones. Three-year-old Archianax, playing near a well, Was drawn down by his own silent reflection. His mother, afraid he had no breath left, Hauled him back up wringing wet. He had a little. He didn't taint the nymphs' deep home. He dozed off in her lap. He's sleeping still. These words, translated from the original Greek by poet and filmmaker Michael Wolfe, mark the passing of a child who died roughly 2,000 years ago. Ancient Greek epitaphs honor the lives, and often describe the deaths, of a rich cross section of Greek society, including people of all ages and classes— paupers, fishermen, tyrants, virgins, drunks, foot soldiers, generals—and some non-people—horses, dolphins, and insects. With brief commentary and notes, this bilingual collection of 127 short, witty, and often tender epigrams spans 1,000 years of the written word. Cut These Words into My Stone provides an engaging introduction to this corner of classical literature that continues to speak eloquently in our time.
