Book Ephemeron

    Book Details:
  • Author : T. R. Hummer

Download or read book Ephemeron written by T. R. Hummer and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2011-11-14 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: T. R. Hummer's new and characteristically pyrotechnic collection takes its title from the rare (in English) singular form of the common word "ephemera." In a work of startling originality, the poet presents a meditation on ephemerality from the point of view of the ephemeron itself as it passes, be it the individual, the atom, the particle. Hummer's work is existential and atemporal. The scope of the poems gradually broadens from the opening section, also called "Ephemeron," through "Either/Or," which is a fulcrum, on to plural "Ephemera." The vision that emerges is haunting, evoking the aftermath of a physical, psychological, and spiritual apocalypse. Relentless in its stalking of the boundary between being and nonbeing, Ephemeron becomes a tour-de-force that shines a spotlight into dark corners of Being, revealing yet more darkness.

Book Epheremon The Particle of Time The 1st Book of the FAUSTEF TRILOGY

Download or read book Epheremon The Particle of Time The 1st Book of the FAUSTEF TRILOGY written by V. Alexander STEFAN and published by Stefan University Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Badonna, an immortal woman code-12, talks to Faustef about the nature of Time. Faustef, a graduate student in physics, is getting ready for the defense of his thesis the next morning. His thesis is based on the nature of Time as an infinite continuum. Badonna tells him that Time is a corpuscular fluid; that the Time Corpuscle is referred to as the ephemeron. She tells Faustef about the spherical time-matrix, (the carpet of existence), and about the nature of time travel. She tells him that Lucifer and she are the first children-in –creation of QUALB the Giver, the Creator of all that there is; that Orpheus is a son-in-birth of QUALB the Giver; that Lucifer, before his exile, was the Master Guardian of the Atlantis Universe, (our Universe), and the 21 Sibling Universes; that she is referred to as the Mother of the Atlantis Universe and the 21 Sibling Universes. Faustef is disappointed with his thesis; decides to withdraw it and write a new one based on the ephemeron concept. His new thesis is rejected by the Examination Board as a far-fetched idea, being more the work of the magus than a physicist. Faustef is advised by the Board to resubmit his old version of the thesis, which he does, and defends it successfully.

Book excerpt: *SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2021 FORWARD PRIZE FOR BEST SINGLE POEM* The poems in Ephemeron deal with the short-lived and transitory - whether it's the brief, urgent lives of the first section, 'Insect Love Songs', the abrupt, anguished, physical and emotional changes during secondary school, as remembered in 'Boarding-School Tales', or parenting's day-by-day shifts through love and fear, hurt and healing, in 'Daughter Mother'. The long central section, 'Translations from the Pasiphaë', gathers these themes together in a blistering, unforgettable re-telling of the Greek myth of the Minotaur, as seen from the point of view of the bull-child's mother - the betrayed and violated Pasiphaë. The familiar legend of the dashing male hero slaying the monster in the labyrinth is transformed here into a story of ordinary people caught up in an extraordinary cycle of violence, power and the abuse of power. At the centre lies Pasiphaë calling for her son: 'They took him away from me/and they killed him in the dark, for years.' Telling uncomfortable truths, going deep into male and female drives and desires, our most tender and vulnerable places, and speaking of them in frank, unshrinking ways - these poems are afraid, certainly, but also beautiful, resolute and brave.

Book Encyclopedia of Ephemera

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Ephemera written by Michael Twyman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 1322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The joy of finding an old box in the attic filled with postcards, invitations, theater programs, laundry lists, and pay stubs is discovering the stories hidden within them. The paper trails of our lives -- or ephemera -- may hold sentimental value, reminding us of great grandparents. They chronicle social history. They can be valuable as collectibles or antiques. But the greatest pleasure is that these ordinary documents can reconstruct with uncanny immediacy the drama of day-to-day life. The Encyclopedia of Ephemera is the first work of its kind, providing an unparalleled sourcebook with over 400 entries that cover all aspects of everyday documents and artifacts, from bookmarks to birth certificates to lighthouse dues papers. Continuing a tradition that started in the Victorian era, when disposable paper items such as trade cards, die-cuts and greeting cards were accumulated to paste into scrap books, expert Maurice Rickards has compiled an enormous range of paper collectibles from the obscure to the commonplace. His artifacts come from around the world and include such throw-away items as cigarette packs and crate labels as well as the ubiquitous faxes, parking tickets, and phone cards of daily life. As this major new reference shows, simple slips of paper can speak volumes about status, taste, customs, and taboos, revealing the very roots of popular culture.
